Indiana Pacers (Record: 8-5, Road: 3-3)

The Pacers have won eight of their last ten games and now currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. With the teams out West struggling this season, we are finally starting to see a balance of power between the two conferences. Tonight the Pacers head to Washington to take on the Wizards in what is expected to be a close, high-scoring game.

The Wizards’ biggest weakness this season has been on the defensive end of the floor. They went from being an elite defense last season, to being ranked below the league average in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game this season. The Pacers don’t have the highest implied team total on the board, but 102 points is nothing to scoff at.

The Pacers are expected to have George Hill back in the lineup tonight, which means Monta Ellis will go back to his role as the Pacers’ shooting guard. With Rodney Stuckey also healthy, it may be best to avoid all three players for fantasy purposes. Paul George is having an outstanding season. He has quickly established himself as an elite fantasy option, averaging 42.3 fantasy points per game. His usage rate continues to climb and I’m not overly concerned about his matchup against Washington. Ian Mahinmi and C.J. Miles are also in play here, but they are secondary plays at their respective positions.

Washington Wizards (Record: 6-4, Home: 3-2)

The Wizards have won three games in a row to improve their record to 6-4 on the season. They have been one of my favorite teams to see on the schedule, as they play at a very fast pace, averaging 101.9 possessions per game. The Wizards are 2.5-point favorites tonight, as they host the visiting Pacers.

This is a tough matchup for the Wizards. It will be a pace-down game against a very solid defense in the Pacers. On the season, Indiana is ranked fourth or better in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. Despite the less than ideal matchup, Washington is still projected to score 104.5 points tonight, which is the third highest on the board.

Bradley Beal returned from his injury on Saturday night. While he didn’t play particularly well, he did see 28 minutes of action. He should get closer to his season average tonight against the Pacers. While he does draw the best matchup of the five starters – against Monta Ellis, he is a risky play tonight. John Wall has a tough matchup against George Hill on paper, but he has great home splits in his career and he is the engine of this Wizards’ offense. Otto Porter is my favorite play of the bunch. He has been terrific recently, averaging 29.8 fantasy points in his last five games.

Boston Celtics (Record: 7-6, Road: 3-2)

The Celtics are only 7-6 on the season, but they are actually ranked second in the Eastern Conference in point differential at +5.9 per game. They have one of their toughest tests ahead of them tonight, as they face the Hawks in Atlanta.

The Hawks have not been elite defensively this season, but they have slowly improved after a slow start. Atlanta is now ranked between 11th and 21st in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Celtics have an implied team total of 100.3 points tonight, which is slightly below the average of the 12 teams in play tonight.

The Celtics will be without Marcus Smart again tonight, as he will be out the next couple of weeks with a subluxation of the proximal tibfib joint (leg injury). Smart’s absence solidifies the minutes for Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley. Both are strong plays tonight against the Hawks, who haven’t defended opposing backcourts all that well this season. Jae Crowder is in a nice spot for a bounceback game, but his price is starting to match his recent level of production. Jared Sullinger is a borderline elite play down low. I prefer targeting him on FanDuel though, as he is listed as a center on DraftKings.

Atlanta Hawks (Record: 9-6, Home: 5-3)

The Hawks have lost five of their last ten games and have dropped all the way down to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They have a good chance to right the ship tonight, as they host the visiting Celtics. The Hawks are 3-point favorites in what is expected to be a close, high-scoring game.

The Celtics may play at a fast pace, but they have been very stout defensively this season. They are ranked ninth or better in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. Despite what the numbers say, the Hawks still have an implied team total of 103.3 points tonight. The 103.3 points is the fourth highest team total on the board and it’s also two point higher than the Hawks’ average points scored this season.

The Hawks will be without Kent Bazemore again tonight. Jeff Teague should be back in the starting lineup, after coming off of the bench the other night against the Cavaliers. The Celtics have defended point guards well this season, but Isaiah Thomas has never been known as an elite defender. The top targets here are the Hawks’ frontcourt duo of Paul Millsap and Al Horford. Both players are elite options tonight at home.

Dallas Mavericks (Record: 9-5, Road: 5-3)

The Mavericks lost their last game, but they have been playing their best basketball of the season. Tonight they head to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies in what will be a pace-down game for the Mavericks. On the season, the Grizzlies have averaged 96.4 possessions per game, which is the fourth slowest pace in the NBA.

The Grizzlies are slowly improving on the defensive end of the floor. They are now ranked above the league average in points allowed per game and fantasy points allowed per game this season. Vegas is expecting a fairly low scoring game tonight, as the Mavericks have an implied team total of 97 points. Dallas has the lowest team total on the board.

The Mavericks’ implied team total is more than five points lower than their average points scored on the season. In this difficult matchup, there aren’t any plays that stand out as elite fantasy options. Dirk Nowitzki draws a nice matchup against Zach Randolph. Nowitzki’s minutes have been trending upward, but I hesitate listing him as an elite play tonight. Deron Williams is also in play as a secondary option, he has averaged 32.7 fantasy points over his last five games.

Memphis Grizzlies (Record: 7-7, Home: 4-2)

The Grizzlies are 7-7 on the season, but they have the fourth worst point differential in the Western Conference. While that’s a bit concerning, we can chalk most of that up to the awful losses against the Cavaliers and the Warriors. The Grizzlies are 2.5 point favorites tonight at home against the Mavericks.

The Mavericks have been mediocre defensively this season. They are ranked between 10th and 14th in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Grizzlies have an implied team total of 99.5 points tonight. While that may seem low, it is actually 5.5 points higher than their average points scored this season.

Zach Randolph has missed the Grizzlies’ last two games with a knee injury. There hasn’t been an update on his status yet, so we will consider him questionable for tonight’s game against the Mavericks. If he is in the starting lineup, he makes an intriguing play at power forward, as the Mavericks are ranked 27th against power forwards this season. Marc Gasol and Jeff Green are both elite plays tonight. They have averaged 36.8 and 25.1 fantasy points per game over their last five, respectively. Both players are still priced affordably across the industry. Mike Conley has also played well recently; he is a borderline elite play at point guard.

Los Angeles Clippers (Record: 6-7, Road: 1-4)

The Clippers are a complete mess right now. They are not playing together, something that seems to be a common theme on Lance Stephenson teams. They will look to get back on track tonight, as they head to Denver to take on the Nuggets in what should be a fast-paced game.

The Nuggets are quickly becoming the defense that we all expected them to be at the start of the season. They are now ranked 25th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. Even with their recent struggles, the Clippers have an implied team total of 106.8 points tonight, which is the second highest on the board.

Do you know the cure for a team’s offensive woes? Two cups of milk, a tablespoon of sugar, a pinch of salt, and a matchup against the Nuggets. Pretty easy recipe, right? Blake Griffin is coming off of one of his worst games ever. He should bounce back nicely against the weak interior defense of the Nuggets. DeAndre Jordan has been an afterthought in daily fantasy this season, but deserves consideration as an elite play tonight. The same goes for Chris Paul, who should have his troops fired up for tonight’s game.

Denver Nuggets (Record: 6-8, Home: 3-4)

The Nuggets have played about as well as anyone could have expected. They are a respectable 6-8 on the season, with a 3-4 record at home. They are listed as 7-point underdogs tonight against the Clippers in what should be a goldmine for fantasy production.

The Clippers have really struggled on the defensive end of the floor this season. They are ranked below the league average in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Nuggets implied team total is only 99.8 points, but the expected pace more than makes up for the low team total.

The Clippers have been mediocre at defending all five positions this season, but their weakest defenders are on the wing. DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, and Chris Paul are all very capable defenders. Danilo Gallinari draws a favorable matchup against Paul Pierce tonight at home. While Gallinari has struggled with consistency, his high ceiling puts him in play in all league formats tonight. Emmanuel Mudiay has played well recently, but I’m concerned with his matchup tonight. Mudiay has been turnover prone in his rookie season and Paul has been an elite on-ball defender for years. Will Barton is a strong play off the bench and is worth a look at shooting guard. And finally, Nikola Jokic is an intriguing tournament play at center.

Chicago Bulls (Record: 8-4, Road: 3-3)

The Bulls are 8-4 to start the season, which is currently good enough for third place in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls are only 3-3 on the road, but they face a very beatable Blazers team tonight. The Bulls are listed as 2.5-point favorites in a game that features a total of 202.0 points.

The Blazers have been pedestrian defensively this season. They are ranked between 14th and 20th in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Bulls have an implied team total of 102.3 points tonight, which is two points higher than their average points scored this season.

Derrick Rose practiced in full on Monday and is expected to return to the lineup tonight against the Blazers. He steps in as a nice tournament play, although he is not consistent enough to use in cash games. Rose’s return really hurts the fantasy appeal of Jimmy Butler, as the two have not played all that well together this season. The Bulls’ bigs are still in a four-way time split. It’s hard to pay the price for a player like Pau Gasol, who isn’t even guaranteed to play 30 minutes.

Portland Trail Blazers (Record: 6-9, Home: 3-3)

The Blazers have won two games in a row, after losing their previous seven. They are now 6-9 on the season, as they host the visiting Bulls. This is yet another game that is expected to stay close throughout, as the spread is set at only 2.5 points.

The Bulls have improved their play on the defensive end of the floor recently. They are ranked tenth in points allowed per game and sixth in defensive efficiency. However, they are also ranked 21st in rebounding differential and 22nd in fantasy points allowed per game. All in all, they are an average matchup for the Blazers, who are projected to score 99.8 points tonight.

Meyers Leonard will miss his seventh game in a row tonight. His absence solidifies the minutes for Mason Plumlee, who has averaged 30.2 fantasy points per game over his last five. Plumlee may not be a popular play tonight, but is a borderline elite option given his recent increase in minutes and production. Damian Lillard is an elite play at point guard. Not only does he have one of the highest turnover-adjusted usage rates in the NBA, but the Bulls are ranked 25th against point guards. Jimmy Butler will likely spend time on both Lillard and C.J. McCollum, but Lillard is the more matchup-proof of the two. Al-Farouq Aminu is a nice mid-range option at small forward.
