NHL GPP Plays: Tuesday, March 22nd

rotogrinders_user_21697

Every Tuesday and Thursday I am going to give you my top tournament plays for all Daily Fantasy Hockey GPPs (guaranteed prize pool). GPPs are a general term used across the industry for your big money tournaments.

GPPs are very different from your cash games and you use a different strategy with them. In our GPPs we are not interested in safe plays, since GPPs are all about UPSIDE. We want players who can explode, as all-or-nothing type players can become GPP gold, and your value players are just as important as your star players. You need your players to have huge nights in order to take down these big tournaments.

My goal is to provide players who will be under-owned and have that big game upside you are looking for. I will also try to find as much value as I possibly can. Now, let’s get to the NHL GPP plays!

GOALTENDERS

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page prior to game time, to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting.

Cam Talbot, Edmonton Oilers – In our GPPs, we want a goalie that can not only win, but will also see a ton of shots along the way. The Edmonton Oilers allow Talbot to get peppered on a nightly basis and lately he has been up to the task. Talbot has been sensational in goal for the Oilers recently, posting terrific numbers (1.74 GAA, .945 SV% and 2 SO) in the month of March. Talbot can steal this game for Edmonton and take you to the top of a GPP at the same time.

Other Goalies To Target – Sergei Bobrovsky, Cam Ward, Ondrej Pavelec, Jhonas Enroth

FORWARDS

Artem Anisimov, Chicago Blackhawks – The Blackhawks are in a great spot to produce tonight and as usual, I love the potential from their second line. Anisimov may not have hat-trick upside like his wingers Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin, but he is certainly capable of dishing out a couple of helpers tonight. Look for Anisimov to once again fly under the radar in large field tournaments.

Jamie McGinn, Anaheim Ducks – McGinn has goals in three consecutive games and he is now playing alongside superstars Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf on the Ducks’ top line. The Fergus Ontario native is not only seeing decent minutes at even strength, but he is also getting power play time. Considering his linemates, the matchup and his inexpensive salary across the industry, McGinn is my top value option tonight.

Andre Burakovsky, Washington Capitals – The Washington Capitals are the top offense to target tonight against an Ottawa Senators team that lacks defensive awareness. The Capitals have multiple great scoring lines and both of their top two lines are in play tonight. Burakovsky has scored in consecutive games and he is easily the best bang for your buck on the Capitals’ potent second line.

Oliver Bjorkstrand, Columbus Blue Jackets – Bjorkstrand is a very talented young scorer and the Columbus Blue Jackets are giving him a chance to shine at the NHL level. Playing on the Blue Jackets’ second line and top power play unit, the 20-year-old has scored four goals and fired 13 shots on net in his last four games. The Philadelphia Flyers are playing great hockey these days, but this will be their second game in as many nights. Bjorkstrand is incredibly under-priced on most sites and he will be highly under-owned in tournament play this evening.

Other Forwards To Target – Mark Scheifele, Alex Galchenyuk, Jason Spezza, Jori Lehtera, Taylor Hall, Evander Kane, Cam Atkinson, Drew Stafford, Mark Stone

DEFENSE

Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks – Fowler gets criticized quite a bit in Daily Fantasy Hockey for not shooting the puck enough and it’s true; however, with the amount of ice he sees at even strength and on the Ducks’ top power play unit, he is always a great high-upside value-play in favorable matchups like tonight. Dollar for dollar, Fowler is the top play tonight on the blue line.

Other Defensemen To Target – Rasmus Ristolainen, Andrej Sekera, Michael Stone, Noah Hanifin, Ryan Murray, Ben Hutton, Tobias Enstrom
