ResultsDB Report: Week of July 24th-July 30th

The DFS Tournament Report is going to operate with a different format moving forward, as we’ve introduced a great new feature/tool here at RotoGrinders, ResultsDB, that provides daily congratulations to users on the homepage for their big wins.

Each week, we’ll highlight three of the winning lineups and look into their ownership correlations. To learn more about the ResultsDB, check out our Community Manager Joe Rapolla’s excellent forum post – Introduction to ResultsDB forum post.

You can access any date you wish to review past contests, but here are links to the ResultsDB for the past week:

July 24th $325K Swing For The Fences

According to the ResultsDB, ddettro had the best score of any user in qualifying contests for that date, and that top score would be good enough to give him the $50,000 first-place prize in the Swing For The Fences. He would enter a total of 50 lineups in the contest and in addition to his win he would have a 6th place finish, 5 entries in the top 200, and 10 entries total in the top 1,000. Here’s a look at that winning lineup/top score…

Our winner had a hugely successful day by going very heavy on six players and focusing on two pitchers primarily in James Paxton and Mike Leake. He went all-in on Paxton with all 50 of his lineups containing the Mariners ace and that would pay off in huge dividends, as Paxton would put up 37.35 fantasy points. Even more impressive was his faith in Leake, as he had the Cardinals SP in 42/50 lineups (84%) and he was rewarded for that as well. Leake put up a stellar 29.35 fantasy points (at just 4.66% ownership). The other four players that he had ownership of 64% or better were Elvis Andrus, Carlos Gomez, George Springer, and Jose Altuve. Only one of those players (Altuve) would be in the winning lineup (he put up 30 fpts, so having 76% of him was certainly a good start with his two SPs), as it was a Diamondbacks stack of Goldschmidt, Peralta, Pollock, and Martinez that led to his top score. He also had very high percentages of two of the one off’s in the lineup, as he had 42% of catcher Yadier Molina (15 fpts) and 30% of 3B Matt Chapman (14 fpts). Here’s a look at ddettro’s ownership breakdown in more detail per ResultsDB…

$1.35M Midsummer Classic

With a $1,500 buy-in and $200,000 first-place prize, the Midsummer Classic was the feature event on DraftKings this past week and it would be wilson1 who would dominate, as he would have two of the top three entries (including the winner) and would cash five of his nine lineups (all in the top 100). Here’s a look at the top 10 of the star-studded event (as well as the highest owned players of that event per ResultsDB) that saw the likes of dandydon and RG’s own Notorious finish in the top 10.

$13,500 in lineups is quite the investment but it’s one that would pay off for wilson1, as he went with a very narrow player core of just 30 players that focused on three pitchers (Wacha, Tanaka, and Salazar) and the Cleveland and Texas bats. His winning lineup would include the 14K, 46.8 fpt dominant performance from Tanaka as well as big 20+ fpt games from J.T. Realmuto, Carlos Santana, Jose Ramirez, and Nomar Mazara. The Realmuto one-off would be the big difference maker, as the rest of the lineup was stacks of Cleveland and Texas batters. He even managed to win with a 0 from Rougned Odor. $350K Power Alley

If you’ve followed the DFS Tournament Report at all this year, there is one name more than any other that has consistently been at the top and that would be the #1 TPOY ranked player awesemo. We interviewed him earlier this summer and you can check that out here… Interview with Awesemo

He was at it again this week with a massive showing in the $350K Power Alley that saw him cash a staggering 83 out of 150 lineups including four of the top five scores for a massive $82,767,72 haul (a profit of over $76K). Here’s a look at the top 25 of that event (that included top-ranked Grinders like PetrGibbons, tinderella, ChipotleAddict, fallfromgrace, and rayofhope) and the highest-owned players for the contest.

Awesemo’s strategy revolved around a very tight core of pitchers (only six) with Jordan Montgomery, Madison Bumgarner, and Charlie Morton all topping 40% ownership for him. His player pool of hitters was much more diversified but he would be overweight on certain teams (by 2-3 times the field ownership levels) and when those teams hit (as they did today), it resulted in his huge cash percentage and top scores.

Here’s a position-by-position breakdown:

C 5 at 10%+ (12 total)
1B 4 at 10%+ (15 total)
2B 5 at 10%+ (11 total)
3B 4 at 10%+ (14 total)
SS 4 at 10%+ (13 total)
OF 14 at 10%+ (31 total)

As you can see, a total of 96 players but primarily made up of that core 36 that topped 10% ownership. He had 8 players over 20% in Eric Thames, Curtis Granderson, Asdrubal Cabrera, Ryan Braun, Travis Shaw, Mike Trout, Shin-Soo Choo, and Giancarlo Stanton showing he had a preference for Brewers and Mets on this day. The winning lineup had the pitching combo of Morton and Montgomery along with 20+ fpt outings from Manny Pina (one of his 10%+ owned players), Edwin Encarnacion (another 10%+ owned), Travis Shaw, and Bradley Zimmer (who awesemo had at 4 times the field with 16.67% ownership and with a massive 40 fpt outing he was a huge reason for his big day). Here’s a look at some of awesemo’s player pool breakdown from our ResultsDB…
