Fire up the Blue Jays against Luis Perdomo

With one of the higher implied run totals of the day, the finally healthy Toronto Blue Jays will likely be very popular selections this afternoon. Luis Perdomo brings an ugly 6.93 ERA and 1.84 WHIP to the Rogers Centre where Toronto owns a .339 team wOBA at home. Perdomo has been hit particularly hard by right-handed batters (.345 average and .398 wOBA) this season, solidifying the very dangerous likes of Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, and Josh Donaldson as top-tier options at their respective positions. With all of this said, and expecting some crooked numbers on the board for Toronto, it is worth noting that Perdomo could limit the damage just a bit as he’s been a ground-ball machine (58.3% GB%) this season. Troy Tulowitzki, Michael Saunders and Russell Martin all get the afternoon off while the newly acquired Melvin Upton slides into the cleanup spot.

Tigers look to tee off on Eduardo Rodriguez

Vegas likes the Tigers chances of putting up some runs today against struggling Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez as they have given the team a run total topping 5, one of the highest of the early slate of games. To say Rodriguez has struggled in 2016 would be an understatement as he has allowed a .379 wOBA to LH bats and a .383 wOBA to RH bats (.415 at home). The Tigers are loaded up with RH bats and you would typically make Miguel Cabrera the top option from their lineup as he has a career .408 wOBA against southpaws but he has struggled this season (.273 wOBA) so it’s hard to justify his price tag given that. However, he does have an abnormally low BABIP of .246 so those numbers could turn around. It’s probably a risk worth taking given the match up. Ian Kinsler, Nick Castellanos, and James McCann all have ISO’s topping .200 and are strong plays today. Jose Iglesias batting second and Victor Martinez batting clean up are also worth consideration. Michael Fulmer takes the mound for the Tigers and while he has had his moments this season, going against the Red Sox with the highest projected run total of the afternoon is not the time to take a chance on him.

Miami looks to start Zach Eflin down the road to regression

With Dee Gordon expected back in action tomorrow, this afternoon likely marks the last time we’ll see J.T. Realmuto in the leadoff spot for awhile. On the surface, Zach Eflin’s 3.40 ERA and 1.05 WHIP look quiet impressive, but digging deeper reveals potential trouble on the horizon as his 4.92 SIERA is screaming for a regression and a 12.8% strikeout rate highlights his inability to make opposing batters swing and miss. The top five of this batting order all look like fine options this afternoon and are rather reasonably priced across the industry.

The Indians square off against Stephen Strasburg

Stephen Strasburg found himself on the losing side of things for the very first time this season in his last start, but this Indians lineup will still have their hands full as he’s posted a 2.83 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and racked up 11.04 K/9 in his first 18 starts.  His 3.06 SIERA ranks fifth best among qualified starters in MLB this season and it’s been a losing proposition to target hitters against him this season. With that said, the Cleveland Indians own a solid .331 wOBA and .191 ISO against right-handed pitching this season and have been an offensive juggernaut at Progressive Field where they own an MLB best 124 wRC+ at home this season. Strasburg makes them tough to pull the trigger on in cash games, but the likes of Jason Kipnis, Carlos Santana and Francisco Lindor at least deserve some GPP consideration.

The ice cold Phillies turn their attention to Adam Conley

Philadelphia was shutout last night Tom Koehler and the Marlins bullpen and now find themselves sporting an MLB worst .258 team wOBA since the All-Star break. Southpaw Adam Conley will be handed the ball for the Marlins this afternoon and he’ll take the mound sporting a rock solid 3.58 ERA through his first 20 starts this season. Conley allowed just one run in six innings of work when these teams squared off earlier this season but has been somewhat vunerable to left-handed batters (.287 average against). With that in mind, Odubel Herrera looks like one of the top options with Maikel Franco, Cesar Hernandez (leading off once again) and Tommy Joseph all fine secondary options as well. Freddie Galvis and Ryan Howard both get the afternoon off today while Taylor Featherston will draw the first start of his MLB career.

Trea Turner Leading off, Bryce Harper batting second

The Nationals look to be finally back to full health, but they’re going to have their hands full this afternoon against Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco was dominant in his last start and now owns a sparkiling 1.56 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over his last eight starts. Dusty Baker shook up his lineup a bit today, giving Trea Turner another crack at the leadoff spot and offering him sizable protection as Bryce Harper slides up to his out of the #2 hole. This shift Jayson Werth all down to fifth in the lineup, while Ben Revere drops off the fantasy radar as he’ll bat ninth. .

Chris Johnson scratched, Deitrich replaces him, bats 5th

Chris Johnson is a late scratch for the Marlins according to beat writer Andre Fernandez. The lineup actually improves with Derek Dietrich taking his place and batting 5th. He has a 129 wRC+ vs RHP since last season and costs less than $3K on either site, while LHBs have a .344 wOBA against Jerad Eickhoff since last season.

Chris Archer

Minnesota Twins
7/26/16, 6:26 PM ET

Archer owns the highest SwStr% on the slate, coming off an 11 strikeout performance at Coors Field

Archer is the only other real high upside arm on the slate out side of Salazar. Archer has a 27.3% K% that basically mirrors Salazar and has recorded double digit strikeouts in two of his last 4 starts. The Dodgers are an overall mediocre offense versus right-handed pitching (101 wRC+, .320 wOBA, .160 ISO), but Archer has the ability to dominate any lineup if he has his best stuff. Archer is reasonably priced on both sites and could make for an elite tournament play. There’s much better spots to target than this Dodgers team but Corey Seager (154 wRC+, .397 wOBA, .226 ISO vs RHP) and Justin Turner (147 wRC+, .387 wOBA, .247 ISO vs RHP) can be considered if deciding to fade Archer in tournament.

Mac Williamson (134 wRC+ vs RHP this year) bats 3rd for the Giants against a lefty tonight

Cody Reed has some strikeout ability (23.3 K%, 10.1 SwStr%), but a 39.8 Hard% has led to a nine HRs in six starts. Even with that, a 34.6 HR/FB is completely unsustainable. It was above 40% before his last start against Atlanta and a major park upgrade in San Francisco might help even more. The Giants also strike out a bit more vs LHP (18.9%). While all of this still may not be enough to take a chance on Reed, perhaps his $6.8K price tag on DraftKings doesn’t look terrible on a two pitcher site. On the other hand, RHBs have a .421 wOBA and 43.2 Hard% against him so far. Buster Posey (146 wRC+, .203 ISO vs LHP since 2015) has to be considered one of the top Catchers tonight and costs $3.9K on either site. The other interesting thing is Mac Williamson (134 wRC, .280 ISO vs LHP this season) batting 3rd for just $2.6K on DraftKings, but Jarrett Parker was in a similarly good spot last night and was PH for after two trips to the plate.

Ryan Hanigan scratched Tuesday, Sandy Leon will now catch and bat 8th

Hanigan is the typical catcher of knuckleballer Steven Wright, so things may get a little dicey for Wright with an unfamiliar catcher behind the dish. Passed balls are now more likely but Wright’s outlook shouldn’t be dampened much as a result of this.

Joey Votto

Cincinnati Reds
7/26/16, 5:53 PM ET

Reds implied run total continues to rise (currently 4.0)

Matt Cain (4.92 SIERA) has pitched slightly better than his peripherals suggest but he still is far from the pitcher he once was a few years ago. Cain struggles with batters from both sides of the plate so we don’t need to be too concerned with the platoon advantage if targeting Reds hitters tonight. The only thing really preventing us from loading up on some Reds bats in tournaments is the poor hitting conditions in San Francisco. It his the coolest game on the slate temperature-wise and AT&T Park is the worst park in the majors for hitting. If still wanting some exposure to the Reds offense, Joey Votto (150 wRC+, .401 wOBA, .222 ISO vs RHP), Jay Bruce (138 wRC+, .382 wOBA, .315 ISO vs RHP), and Adam Duvall (.295 ISO vs RHP) have the most power upside and ability to take advantage of Cain in this matchup.

Bud Norris has allowed 14 ERs over his last 16.1 innings, but has struck out 18 of 74 batters

Bud Norris has gotten banged around in his last few starts (14 ERs over his last 16.1 innings) with five HRs over that span, but still some strong peripherals, striking out 18 of 74 batters. Back home in a pitcher’s park against a high strikeout offense (24.2% vs RHP) that loses their DH, he may have some value for around $6.5K on either site. There aren’t many pitchers on this slate that surpass his 21.7 K% this season. However, on the opposite end, LHBs have a .391 wOBA and 40.7 Hard% against him. Perhaps it’s another point in his favor that the Rays are only playing three tonight, but Corey Dickerson (106 wRC+, .263 ISO vs RHP this season) projects well for less than $4K on either site and Brad Miller (100 wRC+, .218 ISO vs RHP this season) may be a top value SS for just $2.9K on FanDuel.
