Bour, Ozuna return for Marlins at home against Hellickson

Jeremy Hellickson has a 4.91 ERA well above his peripherals (3.78 SIERA, 3.81 xFIP) over the last month. He’s missing quite a few bats (26.6 K%, 12.6 SwStr%) and has just a 24.6 Hard% over his last four starts, but has allowed four HRs over his last three, walking six of his last 48. It seems like a favorable matchup in Miami (88 wRC+, 9.6 HR/FB at home), but has a much reduced 11.2 K-BB% on the road this season. The Marlins get some power back too tonight. Although Marcell Ozuna has been just an average bat against RHP (95 wRC+, .162 ISO), Justin Bour has a 139 wRC+ and .283 ISO vs RHP and LHBs have a .340 wOBA against Hellickson since last year. He costs just $2.8K on FanDuel. In fact, players may even be able to consider Ozuna for the same cost on DraftKings. Those two batters have the only two HRs against Hellickson in this lineup. This matchup may be more marginal for Hellickson than originally anticipated.

White Sox/Tigers to be delayed due to thunder and lightning in the area

It doesn’t appear that this should be a lengthy delay and these teams have all day to get this game in, so it isn’t a major concern if you have players rostered here.

Oakland hoping to provide Jharel Cotton plenty of run support as he makes his MLB debut

A one-time prized prospect in the Washington Nationals system, Alex Meyer has seen his career suppressed by nagging shoulder injuries and he’s yet to make an impact at the MLB level. He was knocked around by the Astros in his first career MLB start last week and these Oakland batters derserve plenty of attention on this four game afternoon slate. Khris Davis has flashed some serious GPP winnings upside at times this season and Stephen Vogt emerges as one of the top options behind the plate. Danny Valencia is OUT.

Something's got to give as the White Sox bring an ugly .307 team wOBA against right-handed pitching into today's battle with Anibal Sanchez and his 5.70 ERA

It hasn’t been easy to target the White Sox too often this season, but if you’re not looking their direction this afternoon, you probably won’t play them the rest of the season either. Anibal Sanchez has posted an unsightly 7.11 ERA on the road this season and has surrendered wOBA’s north of .340 to both left and right-handed batters. If you’re a fan of BvsP, then the trio of Melky Cabrera (15 for 37) , Jose Abreu (9 for 17 with three doubles and two home runs) and Adam Eaton (7 for 15 with a pair home runs) should shoot up your rankings.

The Rays look to prolong Dylan Bundy's road struggles (4.54 ERA) today at "The Trop"

The future looks bright for Orioles starter Dylan Bundy, but he’s proven to be very inconsistent thus far at the big league level. He’s fresh off 5.2 scoreless innings of work in his last start and owns a solid 3.47 ERA and 22.1 strikeout percentage through 90.2 innings this season. With that said, his 4.65 xFIP suggests that some trouble could be on the horizon for the 23-year old, and this Tampa team has slowly started to heat up at the plate as they own a .331 team wOBA over the last 30 days. Evan Longoria routinely garners the most fantasy attention, but it’s actually Nick Franklin that leads the team with a .369 wOBA against right-handed pitching. Following closely behind him are the aforementioned Mr. Longoria, Logan Forsythe and Brad Miller. All four are fine options on this four game slate.

Reds face tough task as Noah Syndergaard toes the rubber for the Mets

The Reds own a solid .328 team wOBA since the All-Star break, but will be tough to pull the trigger on today as Noah Syndergaard will take the mound for the visiting New York Mets. Syndergaard enters with a sparkling 2.70 xFIP and 28.9% strikeout rate, so you’ll likely want to fade this Reds team all together in cash games. With that said, Syndergaard has been slightly less effective against left-handed batters and Joey Votto is one of the toughest left-handed batters to retire in baseball. He’s posted a .420 wOBA and 42.4% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitchers, making him a fine GPP choice. Zack Cozart gets the afternoon off and, as expected, Billy Hamilton remains out as well.

Noah Syndergaard top SP option for early slate

The Mets and Noah Syndergaard visit the Reds at Great American Ballpark today and despite the fact that it’s a hitter’s park, Syndergaard is still the clear top pitching option in the early slate of games. Syndergaard has been outstanding this season with a 2.96 SIERA and 28.9% K rate and faces a Reds team that is in the bottom half of the league in team wOBA, ISO, and K rate against RHP. The offense, particularly the LH bats, see a plus match up against Anthony DeSclafini today (he’s allowed a .347 wOBA and 21 HR’s to LH bats the past two seasons). Curtis Granderson hits clean up and is the top option today with Jose Reyes (leading off), Asdrubal Cabrera (2nd), and Yoenis Cespedes (3rd) all viable secondary options. Jay Bruce is not in the lineup today for the Mets.

Dodgers LHB in plus matchup despite Shelby Miller pitching well in return to the majors

Shelby Miller was sent to AAA, after a forgettable start to the season, where it appears he may have figured some things out with a 26.3% strikeout rate and 4.8% walk rate. His first start back in the majors was decent, allowing two runs in six innings, but only managed three strikeouts against the Giants. For the year, Miller has a 12.2% strikeout rate, 12.8% walk rate with a 39.3% hard hit rate and a 5.94 xFIP against left-handed batters. The Dodgers can run out an impressive string of left-handed bats with all of Yasmani Grandal, Adrian Gonzalez (134 wRC+, .367 wOBA, .193 ISO), Corey Seager, and Joc Pederson (139 wRC+, .374 wOBA, .264 ISO) have above average hard hit rates against righties. The two bats we’re most interested in are Corey Seager (161 wRC+, .407 wOBA, .232 ISO vs RHP) and Yasmani Grandal ((128 wRC+, .358 wOBA, .281 ISO vs RHP).

Top five bats in Angels order have a 150+ wRC+ over the last week and face a pitcher on three days rest

Zach Neal was forced into this start after throwing 85 pitches just four days ago and will likely not be long for this game one way or another before getting into a mediocre at best bullpen. Batters from either side have a wOBA just above .330 against him, though he’s only struck out three of 106 LHBs. He won’t see many of those tonight, but the top five bats in the order for the Angels all have a wRC+ of at least 159 over the last week with Andrelton Simmons (79 wRC+) the only one below a 105 wRC+ vs RHP this season. Unfortunately, each of the other four cost $4.9K or more on DraftKings, though Calhoun (107 wRC+, .181 ISO vs RHP this season) is below $3.5K on FanDuel. Mike Trout (174 wRC+, .282 ISO vs RHP this season) is certainly a bat worth paying up for. He has a 357 wRC+ and 62.5 Hard% over the last week.

Ortiz remains OUT of lineup in NL park, Red Sox still projected for 4.8 runs against Paul Clemens

Paul Clemens may be the worst pitcher on the board tonight. Even with Petco behind him and David Ortiz out of the lineup, the Red Sox are projected for 4.8 runs tonight. Batters from either side have hit the ball hard 36% of the time against him in his career, while RHBs have a .396 wOBA. Mookie Betts (141 wRC+, .229 ISO vs RHP this year) is tonight’s top bat and Hanley Ramirez (96 wRC+, .151 ISO vs RHP this season) has a 255 wRC+ over the last week. Unfortunately, Boston bats are still priced as if this game is taking place in Fenway. Jackie Bradley Jr. (135 wRC+, .263 ISO vs RHP this season) gets bumped up a few spots and costs $3.2K on FanDuel, while Sandy Leon (131 wRC+, .182 ISO vs RHP this season) costs $2.8K on there in the fifth spot, but the value in this lineup is more difficult to find on DraftKings.

Mariners look to take advantage in rematch with Martin Perez and his 5.20 SIERA

Martin Perez shockingly held Seattle scoreless in his last start, but we shouldn’t be overly concerned, as he had allowed six runs in each of his previous two starts. Perez is not as bad as his low 12.0% strikeout rate makes him seem with high ground balls (52.9%), and an ability to limit hard hits (30.2% Hard%). However, both his ground balls and soft contact are much better versus left-handed batters, and against right-handed batters his 10.4% strikeout rate and 32.5% hard contact rate are usually not enough to overcome a good 52.0% ground ball rate. Nelson Cruz (155 wRC+, .398 wOBA, .314 ISO vs LHP) and Franklin Gutierrez (154 wRC+, .396 wOBA, .257 ISO vs LHP) are the top options here as they usually are when Seattle faces a lefty. Mike Zunino is a great tournament play with his 53% fly ball rate and .241 ISO against left-handed pitching. If stacking the Mariners, Robinson Cano (.192 ISO) and Kyle Seager (.195 ISO) are contrarian options to consider, as they both hit lefties fairly well.

Kevin's late weather update is posted

The are no major concerns tonight, though several games have a chance of some rain that shouldn’t significantly affect play. Some leftover wind effects from Hermine could be felt in the Toronto New York (AL) game. The potential for gusts 15-20 mph across the field shouldn't have a significant affect on power, but could cause some fielding and fair or foul issues. Read Kevin's full report on our Weather Page and follow him on Twitter (KevinRothWx) for further updates.

LHBs have a .378 wOBA against Vogelsong since last season, but Matt Carpenter is OUT

Ryan Vogelsong has just a 7.5 K-BB% with a 3.56 ERA more than a run below his estimators because 18.5% of his runs have been unearned. He’s in a nice park to suppress RH power in Pittsburgh, but LHBs have continued to torch him. They have a .378 wOBA and 32.3 Hard% since last season. While Matt Carpenter’s offense is a major blow to this offense, it still doesn’t interest us in Vogelsong, but does make Kolten Wong (104 wRC+ vs RHP since 2015) more interesting. He’s just $3.3K on DraftKings ($1K less on FanDuel) and brings a 233 wRC+ (55.6 Hard%) over the last week to the top of the lineup tonight. Matt Adams (95 wRC+, .190 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is another cheap LHB we can look at on FanDuel ($3.5K). Brandon Moss (136 wRC+, .336 ISO vs RHP this season) is the top bat here, but has a -34 wRC+ and 11.1 Hard% over the last week. Jeremy Hazelbaker (122 wRC+, .262 ISO vs RHP) costs just $2.1K on FanDuel.

Matt Duffy scratched Tuesday; Nick Franklin to play SS, Souza to play RF

Duffy has been scratched from the Rays lineup on Tuesday due to his ongoing Achilles issue. It was reported last night that his season would likely be over, but Tampa apparently was going to try to get him in the lineup before he underwent season-ending surgery. This could be the end of Duffy’s season.
