Christian Yelich

Milwaukee Brewers

Homer Bailey has a 33.3 K%, but just a 10.8 SwStr%, while LHBs have a .471 wOBA against him so far

Homer Bailey struck out 11 of 31 Brewers in his last start, but they have the highest strikeout rate in baseball and while his 10.8 SwStr% is impressive, it doesn’t project to a 33.3 K%. This will be his first home start after three on the road, two in great parks before Milwaukee. It’s a bit difficult to sell him as a $9K pitcher so quickly after returning from Tommy John surgery when he only has one real above average season on his resume previously. LHBs have pounded him early on for a .471 wOBA and 43.3 Hard%. It’s still a very small sample, but two LH Miami bats stand out. One due to his low cost and a 256 wRC+ over the last week in Derek Dietrich (130 wRC+, .179 ISO vs RHP since 2015) and the other is just having a breakout year vs RHP and Christian Yelich (153 wRC+, .219 ISO vs RHP this season) still costs just $3.3K on FanDuel.

Kyle Gibson maintains a high SwStr% with a low K%

Kyle Gibson is an incredibly frustrating pitcher. He has a 9.7 SwStr% this year and 10.3% over the last month, but still has a well below average K% and has struck out just a total of eight over his last three starts with his GB rate dropping below 50% and his hard contact rate moving above 30% since the break. He’s still tempting for just $4.9K on DraftKings, but the Braves have been a league average offense since the break. Dansby Swanson makes his major league debut in the eight slot and may not even be available yet on daily fantasy sites. While LHBs do have a .332 wOBA against Gibson since last season, that comes with just a 29.4 Hard%, 50.2 GB% and 10.4 HR/FB. The red hot Freddie Freeman (145 wRC+, .250 ISO vs RHP since last season) has a 389 wRC+ and 76.5 Hard% over the last week, but a high price tag. Both Adonis Garcia and Anthony Recker are below $2.5K on FanDuel, but neither is a particularly strong hitter vs RHP. There are many better matchups on either side of the ball today.

Joey Votto (241 wRC+, 61.9 Hard% last seven days) a top bat vs RHP with .379 wOBA vs LHBs since 2015

Andrew Cashner walked five and got smashed for the second straight start at home against the White Sox. After he ended his San Diego tenure with increased velocity and three straight strong starts, he’s been down over a mile per hour since the trade and has to be considered a risk even for just $4.2K pn DraftKings in a good spot against the Reds (89 wRC+ at home, 86 wRC+ vs RHP). LHBs have a .379 wOBA and 36.8 Hard% against him since last season, making Joey Votto (165 wRC+, .233 ISO vs RHP since 2015) a top overall bat tonight. He has a 241 wRC+ and 61.9 Hard% over the last week and one of the top Bat projections tonight. Scott Schebler (84 wRC+, .198 ISO vs RHP since 2015) has a 148 wRC+ at home since last season and 117 wRC+ over the last week. He could serve as a sneaky low priced OF play for less than $3K on either site, while Tucker Barnhart (101 wRC+ vs RHP this season) is a punt Catcher option on FanDuel ($2.2K)

Washington looks to pick up a win in the rubber match of this Coors Field series

While rookie Jon Gray has been impressive at times for the Rockies this season, he’ll enter today’s game having been blasted in each of his last two outings and now owns a 4.84 ERA in ten starts at Coors Field. With that in mind, it’ll be a common theme to target this Washington lineup rather heavily this afternoon. Bryce Harper is the headliner here and while he’s an elite option in the outfield, there’s plenty more to like. Daniel Murphy leads the club with a .428 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season while rookie Trea Turner trails just behind at .398. It’s Coors Field, so the rest of the lineup is in play too.

Carlos Gonzalez Out While Rockies Face Strasburg

As somewhat expected, the Rockies own an MLB best .377 team wOBA at home this season, but they’ll have their hands full as Stephen Strasburg looks to get back to his winning ways this afternoon. While Strasburg has struggled a bit lately, he does happen to own a solid 3.44 ERA in his three prior starts at Coors Field and his 30.8% strikeout percentage should help limit the effects of the thin air. We find ourselves in a peculiar spot when considering this Rockies lineup as targeting Strasburg has rarely been a winning proposition, but fading exposure to Coors Field on a five game afternoon slate can be deadly, also. While Carlos Gonzalez may be out, Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl both have wOBA’s. right near .400 this season against right-handed pitching. These two along with Nolan Arenado are the the top options here with Blackmon being the only batter in this lineup whose had any kind of success off of Strasburg in the past (4 for 9 with a pair of doubles).

Cardinals LHB see a fantasy boost against Doug Fister

After a big 8-5 win in the series opener last night, the Cardinals will turn their attention to Doug Fister this afternoon at Minute Maid Park. Fister does enter this game owning a rock solid 3.61 ERA through 23 starts this season, but his 4.76 xFIP suggests that some trouble is ahead for the right-hander down the stretch. Left-handed batters have knocked him around for a .364 wOBA this season and Mike Matheny appears to have received the message. Matt Carpenter and Brandon Moss both own wOBA’s well over .400 against right-handed pitching this season and are fine options this evening. Meanwhile, Jedd Gyorko has flashed plenty of upside recently and Kolten Wong’s outlook improves dramatically as he grabs a spot atop the order.

Houston takes aim at the Struggling Carlos Martinez

Carlos Martinez has pitched admirably for the Cardinals this season, but with a 5.10 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break, it appears the 24 year-old may be starting to run out of gas at this point in the season. While the usual suspects of Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve and George Springer are all fine options on a daily basis, its been left-handed batters that have caused Martinez the most trouble throughout his career (.329 wOBA against in 2016). With that said, a handful of the Houston’s left-handed bats find themselves on the DL, leaving Jason Castro and A.J. Reed as the two value plays that benefit from Martinez’ LvsR splits. Evan Gattis gets the afternoon off.

Josh Donaldson a top-tier option against the left-handed Sabathia

The Blue Jays erupted for 12 runs last night and have another promising matchup against C.C. Sabathia on tap this afternoon. While Sabathia has pitched surprisngly well against the Blue Jays in their two prior meetings this season, Toronto is loaded with lefty-killers that deserve your attention. Josh Donaldson leads the charge with a .432 wOBA and .245 ISO against southpaws this season, while Edwin Encarnacion andTroy Tulowitzki have both posted impressive numbers as well. Devon Travis grabs a spot atop the order once again and has been red-hot at the plate, posting a .345 average since the All-Star break. Michael Saunders and Justin Smoak are both out.

Ice-Cold Padres face a tough task against Rays' Archer

With the Padres owning a MLB worst .292 team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season, Tampa starter Chris Archer sees a significant fantasy boost this afternoon as he owns an impressive 2.91 ERA at Tropicana Field this season. San Diego struck out 15 times in last night’s game and have now failed to plate more than two runs in each of their last four games. There’s not a ton to like here, but Ryan Schimpf does lead the Padres with a .388 wOBA and .353 ISO against right-handed pitching this season and has posted a .968 OPS since the All-Star break. Wil Myers, Travis Jankowski, Yangervis Solarte and Alex Dickerson are in play as well.

The youth movement is on full display today with this Yankees lineup

The youth movement is very well underway in the Bronx as both Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira will be watching from the Yankees dugout today.. With that said, things don’t set up too well for them this afternoon as they own just a .306 team wOBA against left-handed pitching this season and J.A. Happ has been the biggest bright spot in the Blue Jays rotation this season and has mowed down this New York team in all three prior meetings this season. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s Didi Gregorious that leads New York with a .382 wOBA against left-handed pitching but we were hoping to see him hit a bit higher in the order than #6. Gary Sanchez gets a rare chance to hit cleanup this afternoon, giving him a major fantasy boost.

Evan Longoria

Arizona Diamondbacks
8/17/16, 10:27 AM ET

After a 15-run outburst in last night's game, the Rays are a fine target once again this afternoon.

Tampa Bay jumped all over the Padres last night and cruised to an easy 15-1 victory. With southpaw Christian Friedrich entering with a subpar 4.84 ERA and 1.49 WHIP on the season, the scoreboard operator should prepare for another busy day at the office. Evan Longoria has a long track record of success against left-handed pitching and is a top-tier option while Nick Franklin gets a big boost as he slides into the leadoff spot. Meanwhile, it may be a lefty vs lefty matchup for Brad Miller, but the shortstop has now smacked four home runs in his last four games and owns a .311 average and 1.076 OPS since the All-Star break. Logan Forsythe and Matt Duffy are both out of the lineup.

Aaron Hill scratched, replaced by Brock Holt

Holt will now play third base and bat 8th with Hill out of the lineup. No reason has been given for the scratch at this point, but it doesn’t have much of a DFS impact at this point. The Red Sox remain one of the strongest team targets of the evening.

Neil Walker

Philadelphia Phillies
8/16/16, 6:59 PM ET

Neil Walker scratched with lower back stiffness

Kelly Johnson will slide over to 2B with T.J. Rivera entering the lineup as the new third basemen. Johnson will now hit fifth with Rivera slotted into the sixth spot. This slightly improves the outlook for Braden Shipley, although he’s still not a recommended DFS option in a hitter-friendly park.
