Miles Sanders

PHI RB Miles Sanders (hand) ruled out for Saturday

As expected, Miles Sanders (hand) has been ruled out for Saturday’s contest against the Dallas Cowboys. This sets up Jordan Howard and Boston Scott to handle the bulk of the running backs snaps with Kenneth Gainwell also available. Due to Howard and Scott’s expected split neither player would be an elite play on the Saturday slate but both would need to be considered. Scott projects a little better at this time because of his work in the passing game.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts and RB Qadree Ollison returned to practice Thursday

Kyle Pitts and Qadree Ollison returned to practice Thursday ahead of the Falcons matchup against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday. Pitts said to media members that he will play this weekend and has a shot to break the rookie tight end record for receiving yards. However, if Pitts were unable to go this weekend, Hayden Hurst would likely step into the primary tight end role with Lee Smith and Parker Hesse available to back him up. Hurst would need to be considered in DFS contests as a value option in an offense that heavily relies on its tight ends in the passing game. Ollison also made his return to practice today and will likely be able to remain in his role as the third running back behind Cordarrelle Patterson and Mike Davis.

JAC TE James O'Shaughnessy (hip) DNP Thursday

James O’Shaughnessy (hip) logged a DNP Thursday ahead of Jacksonville’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. If O’Shaughnessy were to be ruled out this week, Jacob Hollister could serve as the top tight end for the Jaguars and could be considered as a value option. It is also worth noting that Dan Arnold has been designated to return to practice and could return this Sunday. If he were to play he would need to be considered as Trevor Lawrence showed a connection with him earlier in the season.

C.J. Uzomah

Philadelphia Eagles
1/06/22, 3:39 PM ET

CIN TE C.J. Uzomah (knee/hip) DNP Thursday

C.J. Uzomah (knee/hip) logged a DNP Thursday ahead of the Bengals matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals have already made it clear that they are willing to rest players this week if they are banged up so it wouldn’t be surprising for Uzomah to join this list. If he were to be ruled out, the tight end position would likely be split between Drew Sample and Mitchell Wilcox. Sample could be considered as a value option in DFS contests but it is tough to trust Brandon Allen getting him the ball enough for him to really make an impact.

Emmanuel Sanders

Buffalo Bills
1/06/22, 5:29 PM ET

BUF WR Emmanuel Sanders (knee) DNP Thursday

Emmanuel Sanders (knee) logged a DNP Thursday ahead of Buffalo’s matchup against the New York Jets this Sunday. Sanders is continuing to deal with a knee injury that has kept him out each of the last two games. In his absence Gabriel Davis and Cole Beasley are expected to play larger roles with Davis being the biggest beneficiary. Davis will be wide receiver two behind Stefon Diggs and can be considered in most formats in an easier matchup against the New York secondary.

Ronald Jones

Dallas Cowboys
1/06/22, 5:27 PM ET

TBB RB Ronald Jones (ankle) and WR Justin Watson (quad) DNP Thursday

Ronald Jones (ankle) and Justin Watson (quad) logged DNPs Thursday ahead of the Buccaneers matchup against the Carolina Panthers. It seems as though Jones is trending in the wrong direction to suit up this week as he was seen in a walking boot at practice yesterday. If he were to miss, Ke’Shawn Vaughn would likely lead the backfield with Le’Veon Bell and Kenjon Barner available to back him up. There has been some talk about Gio Bertnard making his return off IR this week and if this were to be the case, he would also play a role in the backfield. Vaughn would be a great value option this weekend in a matchup where Tampa Bay would be expected to be playing with a lead. Watson is expected to serve as receiver depth so his potential absence would not be DFS relevant.

KCC RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) officially ruled out for Saturday

Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) officially ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Denver Broncos. CEH is still dealing with a collarbone injury he suffered two weeks ago, and will be forced to miss at least one more week. With CEH officially ruled out, Darrel Williams will once again lead the backfield and will need to be considered in DFS contests. Williams rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns this weekend, while also securing all three of his targets to add another 11 yards to his total. Williams will be backed up by Derrick Gore and Jerrick McKinnon but neither would be expected to play a large enough role to be worth considering in DFS contests.

CAR WR Robby Anderson (quad) DNP Thursday

Robby Anderson (quad) logged a DNP Thursday ahead of the Panthers matchup against the Tampa bay Buccaneers set for this Sunday. Anderson is dealing with a quad injury and if he were to miss Brandon Zylstra and Alex Erickson could play a much more important role in the Carolina offense behind D.J. Moore. Zylstra would likely enter consideration in DFS contests as a cheap value option based on expected volume. Anderson will have one more chance to log a practice tomorrow, so it will be important to monitor Anderson’s listing on the injury report when it is released.

KCC RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire is "most likely out" Saturday per HC Andy Reid

Clyde Edwards-Helaire is “most likely out” for Saturday’s game against the Denver Broncos per HC Andy Reid. CEH is still dealing with a collarbone injury he suffered two weeks ago, and will likely be forced to miss at least one more week. Kadarius Toney

Cleveland Browns
1/06/22, 2:47 PM ET

NYG WR Kadarius Toney, WR John Ross, and QB Mike Glennon DNP Thursday; WR Collin Johnson returned to practice

Kadarius Toney, John Ross, and Mike Glennon logged DNPs Thursday, while Collin Johnson returned to practice ahead of the Giants matchup against the Washington Football Team this Sunday. It seemed as though Toney could be trending towards a return after practicing yesterday but now it starting to look like the rookie’s season will be over. It is encouraging to se Johnson return to practice as it looks like he could suit up this weekend. Mike Glennon is dealing with a wrist injury and if he were unable to go this weekend, Jake Fromm would likely draw the start. Fromm wouldn’t be a significant drop-off from Glennon as neither has been very good. If Toney and/or Ross were unable to play this weekend we could see some practice squad receivers (like Pharoh Cooper) get some meaningful game snaps behind Kenny Golladay, Darius Slayton, and Collin Johnson. It remains difficult to trust any member of the Giants offense in DFS contests.

Curtis Samuel

WAS WR Curtis Samuel (hamstring) and TE Ricky Seals-Jones (concussion) DNP Thursday

Curtis Samuel (hamstring) and Ricky Seals-Jones (concussion) logged DNPs Thursday ahead of Washington’s matchup against the New York Giants this Sunday. If Samuel were once again to be ruled out, Cam Sims and Adam Humphries would continue to play larger roles in the Washington passing attack behind Terry McLaurin. If Seals-Jones were to be ruled out, John Bates would see the bulk of the tight end snaps and could be considered as a value option based on expected volume. It will be important to monitor the practice status of Samuel and Seals-Jones as the week progresses.

Antonio Brown

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1/06/22, 12:49 PM ET

WR Antonio Brown has officially been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

As expected, Antonio Brown has officially been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of their matchup against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. With Brown out of the picture, Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski will be the clear top passing options for Tom Brady this weekend. Cyril Grayson can also be considered in DFS contests as he has seemed to form a connection with Brady over the course of the past few weeks and has the ability to break some big plays.

Justin Fields

New York Jets
1/06/22, 12:43 PM ET

CHI QB Justin Fields placed on COVID list

Justin Fields has been placed on the COVID list ahead of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Fields was slated to make his return this week and start but now that is extremely questionable with how late in the week he has been added to the COVID list. In all likelihood, Andy Dalton will end up getting the start and Nick Foles will be available to back him up. With Dalton at quarterback, all Chicago pass-catchers should see a slight increase in expected production due to Dalton being a more traditional quarterback as opposed to Fields. It is still difficult to trust much of the Chicago offense in DFS contests outside of David Montgomery.

Shi Smith

Kansas City Chiefs
1/06/22, 12:24 PM ET

CAR WR Shi Smith placed on IR

Shi Smith has been placed on IR, effectively ending his season. Smith was expected to play a slightly larger role this week against the Tampa bay Buccaneers with Terrace Marshall goin on IR earlier this week. With both Smith and Marshall now on IR, Brandon Zylstra and Alex Erickson will be forced to step into larger roles behind D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson. Neither Zylstra or Erickson should see enough work to be considered in DFS contests but Moore and Anderson both should become slightly better plays. However, it remains difficult to trust much of the Carolina offense, especially in a tougher matchup against the Tampa Bay defense.

Diontae Johnson

Cleveland Browns
1/06/22, 12:02 PM ET

PIT WR Diontae Johnson placed on COVID list

Diontae Johnson has been placed on the COVID list ahead of Pittsburgh’s matchup against the Baltimore ravens this Sunday. With Johnson being placed on the list this late in the week his availability for this weekend is very questionable. If Johnson were unable to clear protocols in time, Chase Claypool would assume the role as the Steelers top receiver with Ray-Ray McCloud and James Washington also set to take on larger roles in the passing game. Claypool would need to be considered in DFS contests based on expected volume. It is also possible that the Steelers lean on Najee Harris out of the backfield a little more than usual.
