Giants Promote RB Austin Walter From Practice Squad for Game Tonight

The Giants have promoted Austin Walter from their practice squad for tonight’s game against the Patriots. They are without their top two RB’s in Saquon Barkley and Wayne Gallman. Walter should fill the RB3 role tonight behind Jon Hilliman and Elijhaa Penny.

Chris Herndon

New Orleans Saints

Chris Herndon (Hamstring) Out Sunday

Herndon will miss Sunday with a hamstring injury and could also miss Week 7. He picked up the injury practicing on his own and has not made his season debut due to a suspension to start the season. Ryan Griffin will be the top TE option with Trevon Wesco backing him up.

Julio Jones

Philadelphia Eagles

Julio Jones (Hip) Did Not Practice Wednesday

Jones has been healthy so far this season, but he sat out practice Wednesday with a hip injury. He is enough of a vet that he likely only needs a limited practice before the end of the week to be able to play, so there should only be minor concern about his availability.

Christian McCaffrey

San Francisco 49ers

Christian McCaffrey (Back) Expected to Practice Friday and Play Sunday Without Issue

McCaffrey did not practice Wednesday with a back injury designation, but coach Ron Rivera downplayed the issue. He said that Wednesday will be a rest day for McCaffrey for the rest of the season. The Panthers only did a walkthrough Thursday, but McCaffrey is expected to return to practice Friday and play Sunday. McCaffrey is averaging approximately 27 touches and 170 yards from scrimmage per game, making him the clear top fantasy play so far this season.

Kirk and Byrd both missed Week 5 but were able to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday. Johnson did not practice with a back injury he suffered last week. He was able to finish the game but his status for next week is up in the air.

Brandin Cooks (Concussion) Limited, Todd Gurley (Quad) Does Not Practice Wednesday

Cooks was limited Wednesday in practice with a concussion, a promising sign for his return. He will still need to clear the concussion protocol before he can play. Gurley sat out with a quad contusion injury and is considered day-to-day.

Justin Jackson

Justin Jackson (Calf), Andre Patton (Quad) Do Not Practice Wednesday

Justin Jackson missed the last two games and did not participate in practice Wednesday. His role will be diminished when he does return, with Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler filling the top RB spots. Patton plays a small role in the offense with just 4 targets in 3 games played.

Kenny Stills (Hamstring) Limited in Practice Wednesday

Kenny Stills was limited in practice with a hamstring issue on Wednesday. He missed the previous game with both a hamstring and an ankle injury, so he seems to be making some progress.

Both Sanders and Sutton were limited Wednesday in practice but able to play last week. Assuming they progress through the week, expect both to play.

Le'Veon Bell

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Heavy Volume With Expected Increased Efficiency

It feels a bit gross labeling Le’Veon as one of my top overall plays on the slate but hear me out. Bell’s top fantasy game of the season came against a tough Buffalo Bills defense with Sam Darnold under center. Bell has been a serviceable fantasy producer without Darnold simply due to volume but he’s lacked efficiency. Darnold’s return should help at least give some semblance of a passing game threat for the Jets which in theory will result in more efficient touches for Bell who will still see plenty of volume. Additionally, the matchup is a solid one for Bell against a Cowboys defense that is coming off a game where they allowed Aaron Jones to explode for 107 rushing yards, 75 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. Dallas ranks 25th in adjusted yard lines and 20th in rush defense DVOA and represent the second best matchup the Jets run game has seen this season.

Tyreek Hill

Miami Dolphins
10/09/19, 6:12 PM ET

Tyreek Hill (Shoulder) Limited in Practice Wednesday

Hill was limited in practice Wednesday. He was also able to practice in a limited capacity last week, so there is still a good chance he doesn’t play this week. His shoulder injury carries risk of re-aggravation, so expect the Chiefs to be careful with Hill.

Vance McDonald

Vance McDonald (Shoulder), Roosevelt Nix (Knee) Both Do Not Practice Wednesday

McDonald and Nix both did not practice Wednesday for the Steelers.

Value to Be Found On Bad Offense Matching Up Against Terrible Defense

The Washington – Miami game only has a Vegas point total of 41, and neither of these teams is a squad we would normally consider targeting, but I think the range of outcomes with two such terrible teams meeting is higher than it first appears. In particular, the Dolphins players are priced for their performance so far this season, but they are facing a Washington defense that has allowed the fifth-most yards per game and the third-most points per game. Coming off the bye, Miami QB Josh Rosen should be fully prepared for his easiest matchup to date, while his favorite WR Preston Williams has 19 targets over the past two weeks. RB Kenyan Drake is also in play as one of the few talented skill players on the team and matches up against a Redskins defense that has allowed 144 rushing yards per game.

Jakeem Grant

10/09/19, 5:59 PM ET

Jakeem Grant (Hamstring), Albert Wilson (Calf, Hip), Mark Walton (Illness) All Limited in Practice Wednesday

Grant, Wilson and Walton were all limited at practice Wednesday. They all have a good chance to play this week, but their progress needs to be monitored. Walton appears to have moved into the RB2 role Week 4, meaning he could see an expanded role if healthy. If out, Kalen Ballage will remain the backup RB.

Vernon Davis

Washington Commanders
10/09/19, 5:53 PM ET

Vernon Davis (Concussion) Limited, Case Keenum (Foot) Practices Fully Wednesday

Vernon Davis was limited in practice Wednesday as he recovers from a concussion. Participating in practice is a positive sign, but he still needs to clear the concussion protocol. Keenum was able to practice fully with his foot injury. There was a report earlier Wednesday that Keenum would be the starter if healthy, but interim coach Bill Callahan wouldn’t commit to any QB later that same day. The QB situation is still not clear for the Redskins.
