Steelers seem ready to start James Conner in season opener

Steelers seem ready to start James Conner in season opener. Le’Veon Bell has not reported or practiced yet. The deadline is inching closer for Bell to come in and make an impact for Week 1. Any RB getting the bulk of the snaps in this offense with talent around him is a player we need to consider heavily in DFS.

Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead participate in practice

Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead participate in portions of practice Monday. It’s been the thought all along that Burkhead would be good to go but Michel was unlikely to play in Week 1. The Patriots are unlikely to tip their hand at the availability of Michel so we will have to keep close tabs on this situation. This could throw a monkey wrench in the plans for the Pats backfield.

Mike Tomlin said he expects Antonio Brown to be a "full go" for Cleveland game

Mike Tomlin said he expects Antonio Brown to be a “full go” for Cleveland game. Brown is matchup proof and the best fantasy WR in the game. He offers a very high floor and ceiling against an improved Browns defense in Week 1.

Doug Pederson says Mack Hollins won’t play on Thursday. #Eagles. Alshon is already out and now Hollins won’t play. Nelson Agholor is already banged up so the Eagles could turn to Mike Wallace as a field stretcher Week 1. Wallace becomes a very intriguing play for a Thursday Night Showdown slate against the Falcons to open the season

Mike Gillislee Signs One-Year Deal with Saints

Former Patriots Rb Mike Gillislee has signed a 1yr deal with the Saints. He will be in line to get the goal line work, in Mark Ingram’s absence over the first 4 games of the season. The addition of a 3rd Rb to the starting roster makes a lot of sense with them only having Alvin Kamara and rookie Boston Scott heading into Week 1. Jonathan Williams, who was expected to make the team, has agreed to join their practice squad. The addition of Gillislee lowers Kamara’s Week 1 DFS value, and makes Scott basically irrelevant. Kamara is the only Rb I’m interested in until Mark Ingram returns, or one of the other two show that they’re going to be trusted enough to get a relevant workload.

Jerick McKinnon Suffers ACL Tear, Will Miss the Season

The season-ending injury to Jerick McKinnon leaves some uncertainty in the 49er’s backfield. Alfred Morris and Matt Breida will be left with the bulk of the work. Morris will be the starter and is no stranger to a heavy work-load. Breida was targeted 36 times in the passing game last season, finishing with 21 receptions for 180 yards. He should see the majority of the passing down work, and that could be significant if he can prove capable of being efficient with his touches in that Kyle Shanahan-led offense. The 49ers are in Minnnesota Week 1, so it’s best to temper expectations for both of these Rbs fantasy production in the opener, however.

Jonathan Williams cut by Saints

In a very surprising move, the Saints have cut Rb Jonathan Williams. He was slated to be the #2 Rb behind Alvin Kamara heading into the season, while Mark Ingram serves a four-game suspension to start the season. Shane Vereen was placed in IR by the Saints yesterday, leaving only 3 active Rbs for Week 1. Now, it’s down to 2, and it’s 6th round draft pick Boston Scott left in the backfield with Kamara for the first quarter of the season. Kamara’s DFS value just went up even higher.

Week 1 Running Back Value

The Browns host the Steelers in Week 1 and this game will no doubt be targeted heavily by the DFS community.. Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell and JuJu Smith-Schuster versus a Cleveland defense that allowed the 2nd most points per game, and an NFL worst 101 QB rating? Who wouldn’t want exposure to that? However, it might be the Browns Rbs who end up being the best value plays in this game. The Steelers allowed the most points/touch to Rbs on both DraftKings and FanDuel last season. Carlos Hyde is modestly priced on both sites, as well as Duke Johnson. Both should see a lot of work in this game; Obviously Johnson will see more work in the passing game, but Hyde should see the workload that Isaiah Crowell saw in Cleveland last year, and that was 14.6 touches/game. Ownership should definitely be low for these two Rbs, and rostering them will allow you to jam in those high-end plays you really like.

30 Touches a Game for Zeke?

The Cowboys have decided to only keep 2 Rbs on their 53-man roster – Ezekiel Elliott and Rod Smith. We know that Zeke is the offense in Dallas and they get the ball in his hands whenever and however they can. He finished 2nd in the league in touches/game last season averaging 26.8, only behind Le’Veon Bell’s 27.1. Considering the receiving options Dallas has going into the season, I don’t think it’s a stretch to see Zeke’s touches go up even more.. 30 a game? It’s not out of the question, especially if Rod Smith isn’t making the most of his opportunities. Smith only averaged 4.9 touches/game last season, and I think that’s about what we can expect in 2018, also.

Mike Gillislee Released by Pats

Mike Gillilsee has become a casualty of the 53-man roster limit today, as the Pats have released him. It’s always a guessing game when we’re trying to pick the right NE RB to put in our lineups week-to-week, so this should add some clarity. Jeremy Hill should now be getting the short-yardage and goal line work, James White and rookie Sony Michel left to split some carries and most of the passing down work.
