Fanball NFL Auction Breakdown: Week 7 - Thursday, October 18th

Hey everyone, welcome to the Fanball NFL Auction breakdown. If you haven’t played on this site before, it’s a product unlike anything you’ve ever seen before in DFS. They will be offering an Auction-style format drafting with four players on the board at all times, meaning you have to be on your toes and be aware of what is going on, because split-second mistakes can be costly.

Each team must draft 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 TE. No player can be left on the board at the end of the draft, so if you are the last player not to draft a TE, then when the last TE goes on the board you will autodraft them for $1.

RG Exclusive Offer: Deposit $20 on Fanball and get a $20 bonus!

There are four players up for auction at all times, so you need to be able to adlib on the fly if someone goes drastically over or under what you are projecting to pay for them. You can find the full scoring system for Fanball NFL here.

Be sure to check out Kevin Cole’s overall look at his projected values before my breakdown below.

Thursday, October 18th

Quarterback

Kirk Cousins – $5
Drew Brees – $3
Matthew Stafford – $3
Andy Dalton – $1
Joe Flacco – $1
Baker Mayfield – $1

QB is by far the simplest position today. Just don’t pay up for one. In my opinion, no QB on the board today is worth paying more than $5 for, and in most drafts, the only way I’m paying more than $1 for a QB is if I’m going to end up with money left over or if I already have one of their WRs drafted. Simply put, if you really prefer one QB over the rest, then pay up for them, but I don’t plan on it.

Running Back

Christian McCaffrey – $28
Joe Mixon – $24
Kareem Hunt – $23
Alvin Kamara – $20
James White – $15
Matt Breida – $15
LeSean McCoy – $7
Alex Collins – $5
Adrian Peterson – $5
Carlos Hyde – $3
Kenyan Drake – $1
Kerryon Johnson – $1

McCaffrey, Mixon, Hunt, Kamara – Normally, RB is the position where there is the biggest dropoff from the top to the bottom, but with guys like Gurley and Zeke no longer in the player pool, RB is more balanced than usual. To me, these four RBs are clearly a tier above the rest, but are by no means a requirement to take down a draft. Paying a decent chunk of change for any of these guys is probably the best idea for a draft, but if you can’t get any of them, you still have a decent chance of winning.

White and Bredia – These guys are probably my favorite two RBs to pay for in this player pool. Neither of these two guys are likely to kill your draft given White’s pass-catching abilities and Bredia’s great matchup. I currently have them listed as $15, but in reality, you are likely to get either of these guys for single digit numbers here especially if the four top RBs end up on the board before them.

McCoy, Collins, Peterson, Hyde, Draft, Johnson – I’m really not a huge fan of any of these guys and will likely try and avoid them during my draft. Collins, Peterson, and Hyde all don’t catch the ball much and Drake and Johnson just aren’t getting enough touches to really pay off. To me, the clear best RB in this tier is McCoy and that’s strictly because of the situation and even that could end up not coming close to paying off. Try not to get stuck with one of these guys in your lineup, but with the way that WR is likely to play out, you may be required to do so.

Wide Receiver

Adam Thielen – $27
Michael Thomas – $21
A.J. Green – $20
Mike Evans – $18
Stefon Diggs – $15
Jarvis Landry – $15
John Brown – $10
Golden Tate – $10
Marquise Goodwin – $6
Keelan Cole – $2
Allen Robinson – $1
Tre’Quan Smith – $1

Thielen, Thomas, Green, Evans, Diggs, Landry – I’m putting all these guys in the same tier, but realistically, Thielen is in a tier one all alone and the rest of the guys are in tier 2A and 2B. Fanball is a site with full PPR and with bonuses for games over 100+, 150+, and 200+ yards so, any week, Thielen could end up outscoring the field by 10+ points. Next up, Thomas, Green, Evans, Diggs, and Landry are all pretty decent plays, but not fantastic. All of these guys are great WRs, but most of them are in less than fantastic matchups this week. The reason for their high draft prices here is because of what’s staring you in the face in the bottom tier.

Brown, Tate, Goodwin – None of these three WRs are spectacular plays, but all of them are a drastic upgrade from the next tier. There aren’t many huge pay up spots in this player pool, so be on the lookout for any of these guys coming on the board early and try to scoop one up in the single digits.

Cole, Robinson, Smith – All three of these guys have the potential to completely destroy your lineup. Cole and Smith have very low ceilings and there is a chance that Robinson may not even play this weekend. These guys are all the clear “Landmines” of the draft and should be avoided at all costs.

Tight End

Zach Ertz – $25
Rob Gronkowski – $18
Eric Ebron – $8
Trey Burton – $5
Kyle Rudolph – $3
C.J. Uzomah – $1

Ertz and Gronk – Although Gronk hasn’t been great this year, he does have the upside to help you take down a six-person draft like this easily. Both these TEs are way above the rest of the group here and in all likelihood, if they end up coming up later on in the draft, you may end up getting one of them at a huge discount. Be on the lookout for what other TEs go off the board early on, cause one of these two could offer you the highest value on the board.

Ebron, Burton, Uzomah, Rudolph – To me, each of these TEs offer some upside, but I have no desire to get stuck with either Uzomah or Rudolph. I’m paying a slight premium for either Burton or Ebron, but not going out of my way to make sure any of the top four TEs are in my lineup like I am with the top nine WR’s. Realistically, you can do a whole lot worse than getting stuck with either Rudolph or Uzomah in your lineup.

The Stack Spots

As we all know, in football DFS, pairing your QB with a WR or TE can have a drastic effect on your upside in any given competition and auction-style like this is no different. As you can clearly see from the player pool, each QB has WRs and/or TEs which you can pair with them to raise your upside. Below is my favorite stacking spot.

Cousins with Thielen & Diggs/Rudolph – There aren’t many times where you can get close to a team’s entire offense in one lineup with these auction drafts, but today we have that chance. There is a very real likelihood that 85% of the Vikings production comes from this trio of pass catchers and getting two or three of them in your lineup can be an incredible way to take down one of these drafts.

Remember guys, keep an eye out for what’s happening in your draft and if guys are going for way less than they are projected for here, you should know that some of these prices may be too low. Likewise, if guys are going for higher than the above price early on you can get a lot of these guys at a huge discount.
