Fantasy Football Millionaire Review: Week 8

The Millionaire review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for the weekly DraftKings Millionaire Maker GPP.

This week, we looked at the $4.1M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st!] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $20 and maximum entry limit of 150 lineups per person.

Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game

Jakz101 hit it out of the park this week with heavy exposure to only 3 quarterbacks: Cam Newton, Derek Carr, and Andrew Luck. While Cam was a letdown with Jonathan Stewart running in two scores, Andrew Luck fared well for not having T.Y. Hilton most of the game and Derek Carr absolutely torched the rest of the field. Jakz101’s top 14 lineups used Derek Carr and Amari Cooper which resulted in three top-5 finishes (#1, 3, 4) and four more inside the top-100. Aside from the rest of his top-tier plays (Broncos defense, Davante Adams, Devontae Booker), Jakz101 keyed in on a handful of great to elite running backs in perceived bad matchups/situations while everyone else was on chalk (Devonta Freeman, Jacquizz Rodgers). Bilal Powell was given the green light, but Matt Forte had already shown he could handle back to back heavy workloads while making it count in the red zone, while Ezekiel Elliot has one of the best offensive lines in football and showed he can be match-up proof. Jakz101 gave the Millionaire Maker the Saahil treatment as he cleared over a quarter of the entire prize pool.

While looking over thesportsgeek’s ownership, you may see a few duds near the top of his exposures (Spencer Ware, Will Fuller, Gary Barnidge, etc.). However, the key to these not keeping him from a 15th place finish and further success was the fact that his ownership topped out at 35.3% which didn’t allow them to sink many lineups. Without the Derek Carr & Amari Cooper duo this week, you wouldn’t be going too deep into GPPs and thesportsgeek still landed a few top finishes with just 12.9% Carr and 20% Cooper. You don’t necessarily need to go boom or bust like Jakz101 to have the success on a weekly basis.

Wally1278 displayed success through a mixture of the previous strategies. He keyed in on a number of value options (Devontae Booker, Devonta Freeman, Davante Adams, J.J. Nelson) and high market share players (Mike Evans, Julio Jones, Rob Gronkowski) as a RB/WR/TE core while spreading out most of his QB/WR stack ownerships. This should have provided a solid floor while allowing upside through a number of various QB/WR stacks. It ended up working out for wally as his top options at each position displayed enormous value that with just seven Derek Carr lineups, five of them broke 190 points with one landing him a 12th place finish. The heavy Tom Brady exposure was not without profit as well as it pushed wally over a 50% cash rate.

Single-Entry Winner of the Game

Lpb6 followed the common Raiders theme this week enroute to his 10th place finish. He featured the mega-chalk in Devontae Booker and Davante Adams and safe plays with Ezekiel Ellio and the always solid Broncos D, but went to relatively unorthodox and underforming plays at the remaining positions. Travis Kelce had shown he’s one of the league’s top tight-ends, but combined for just 10.6 points against the mouth-watering lineups of NO & OAK. Jordan Matthews showed that given the volume, he could produce despite his problem with drops as he put up 27.4 points in Week 1, but averaged just 5.4 targets per game since. Julian Edelman was still priced like he was seeing his 2014/2015 volume despite not seeing the same targets with Martellus Bennett and Chris Hogan on the field. Lpb6 did’t need to reach for a #3 WR $3K receiver in order to be contrarian with plenty of upside.
