Pitcher Grind Down

Sean Nolin

Sean Nolin has to make his second career start in a very hitter-friendly environment in Texas. The matchup and park alone make him a tough play on a night packed with some solid top options in good spots. Rating = 3

Salaries: $5,000 FD, $4,700 DK

Yovani Gallardo

Gallardo continues to pitch well above what his advanced statistics show. He has a 3.16 ERA on the season, but his SIERA is more than a full run higher at 4.62. He is striking batters out at a career low 15% and although the matchup is not terrible, is hard to be trusted. Rating = 5

Salaries: $8,000 FD, $6,500 DK

Batter Grind Down

Oakland

While the Athletics offense has not been great this season, they do have a solid matchup tonight and are playing in the highest total game of the night. Gallardo has allowed a .321 wOBA to left-handed bats on the season, which puts Reddick into an elite play, especially for his price at FD.

Texas

The Rangers have the highest team total of the night slate against Nolin at 5.16. The Rangers are better against right-handed pitching, but still should be able to put up a number of runs on the young lefty.

Pitcher Grind Down

Mike Bolsinger

Bolsinger came back last week and put up a decent effort against the Padres. He allowed only two hits (both home runs) over five innings with six strikeouts. He does have a tough matchup tonight against the Diamondbacks who are a solid offense in Chase Field. He is a tournament SP2 at best due to his upside (strikeout rate of 21.9%), but with some attached. Rating = 5.5

Rubby De La Rosa

Rubby De La Rosa has been an average major league starter all year long. He comes into this game with a SIERA of 4.04 and strikeout rate of 19%. His problem has been getting left-handed bats out (.396 wOBA allowed), which makes the matchup against the Dodgers tough tonight who have a lot of lefties and are the fourth ranked team in team wOBA against righties. Rating = 4

Salaries: $6,400 FD, $6,700 DK

Batter Grind Down

LA Dodgers

Rubby has struggled against left-handed hitters mightily this year. He has allowed a wOBA of .396 to lefties making Adrian Gonzalez a clear, elite play. This Dodgers offense has a high team total of 4.34 and should be targeted.

Arizona

The Diamondbacks get a decent matchup against Bolsinger in hitter-friendly Chase where they have a team total of 4.16. Paul Goldschmidt is always in play at home against non-elite starers, while David Peralta and Ender Inciarte make good plays as well.

Pitcher Grind Down

Lance McCullers

McCullers has had a great rookie campaign. At just 21 years old, McCullers comes into this game with a 3.53 SIERA and solid 25.4% strikeout rate after 17 starts. He has a decent matchup against the Angels who are ranked 23rd in the league against righties. If he can pitch around Trout tonight, he should be a great contrarian play for a bit of a discount from the top three studs going. Rating = 7.5

Salaries: $6,700 FD, $9,900 DK

Hector Santiago

Santiago has struggled for the Angels recently. Over the last month, Santiago has posted a 5.28 ERA (5.81 SIERA). He now has a tough matchup against an Astros squad with some monster right-handed bats. He is an easy avoid tonight. Rating = 4.5

Salaries: $7,600 FD, $7,200 DK

Batter Grind Down

Houston

The Astros get a great matchup against Hector Santiago who has been pitching in poor form. On the year, he has allowed right-handed bats a wOBA of .312 on the season, but more importantly, 20 home runs. Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve are clear elite plays while the rest of the righties are in play as well.

McCullers is a solid play tonight, and as a result, the Angels’ team total is set at a low 3.91. Trout is still a solid play, but a tournament one only tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down

Ian Kennedy

Kennedy has been solid over the last month of the season. He has an elite 31.7% strikeout rate to go along with a 3.03 SIERA during that span. He has a tough matchup against the Giants and the win will be difficult against MadBum, but he does have upside to deserve SP2 consideration. Rating = 6.5

Salaries: $8,200 FD, $9,100 DK

Madison Bumgarner

Bumgarner has been stellar recently. In his last 30 days, he has a ridiculously low 2.20 SIERA and is striking batters out at a 32.5% rate. The Padres are not the easy offense to pick on anymore, but they are still in the bottom third of the league in team wOBA against lefties. He is the top option on the night slate. Rating = 9.5

Salaries: $12,600 FD, $12,200 DK

Batter Grind Down

San Diego

Avoid the Padres bats against Bumgarner tonight who has kept batters to a wOBA under .276 from both sides of the plate this year. This Padres squad has the lowest team total by far (2.79) on the slate.

Elite Plays:

None

Secondary Plays:

None

San Francisco

Kennedy has been solid for the Padres recently, which does make it tough to take bats against him. This game features the lowest total of the day at six and a half and batters from both sides should be avoided.

Pitcher Grind Down

Yohan Flande

Flande has not been terrible this year (3.99 SIERA) but lacks the upside to be used for DFS. His 15.3% strikeout rate and 1.80 HR/9 (mostly Coors-induced) makes him a very low upside play, even in a decent matchup against the Mariners. Rating = 4

Salaries: $5,400 FD, $4,200 DK

Roenis Elias

Elias is another pitcher that is tough to target. He comes into this game with a 4.25 SIERA and 18.9% strikeout rate. He faces a Rockies squad that has struggled against lefties this year (26th in team wOBA), which makes Elias a cheap tournament option tonight. Rating = 5.5

Salaries: $7,700 FD, $6,300 DK

Batter Grind Down

Colorado

This Rockies team features a low team total of 3.65 tonight against Elias. With that said, they still have Nolan Arenado who is still an elite play at his position tonight.

Elite Plays:

Seattle

Flande has allowed a wOBA of .378 to right-handed bats this year. That makes Nelson Cruz one of the top options in the outfield for the night slate. This Seattle team does feature a 4.35 team total tonight so they could be an off the board stack option against Flande.
