Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 8)

Colon will get the start today and is coming off a great start while extending his scoreless inning streak to 16 innings. He has another solid matchup against the Marlins who are ranked last in the league against right-handed pitching. His low 17.8% strikeout rate limits his upside a bit, but he is one of the better SP2 options on the early slate. Rating = 6.5

Brad Hand

Strikeout Rate: 23.5% (Rank: 29)

Hand has actually not pitched terribly for the Marlins recently. Over the last five starts, Hand has a 3.80 SIERA, yet, he is not someone we can trust too much. He doesn’t pitch deep into games and has a low strikeout rate during that same span (17.6%). He is an easy avoid tonight against the Mets who are the second highest rated team according to team wOBA over the last month (.353). Rating = 4

Brad Hand has allowed a wOBA of .344 to right-handed batters on the season and the Mets have a couple solid ones including Cespedes who has been great since being traded to them.This Mets squad has a team total of 4.29 and could make a solid stack option against Hand.

Asher’s first career start did not go so well as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits to the Padres. Things get a whole lot tougher against this Red Sox lineup that is ranked eighth in team wOBA and rarely strikes out. Asher is an easy avoid today. Rating = 3

Wade Miley

Philadelphia Phillies vs. LH Pitching: (2015)

Strikeout Rate: 20.7% (Rank: 13)

Miley is not a pitcher to focus a lot of attention on for DFS. He has a season long SIERA of 4.04 and a below average strikeout rate of 17.6%. He does get to face the Phillies today, but they have improved to the 15th ranked offense according to wOBA over the last month. Miley is a huge favorite so the win should be there, which puts him into play as a low-upside SP2. Rating = 5.5

The Phillies have been a decent cheap offense to target at times this year when in good spots and today may be one of them. Miley has allowed a wOBA of .342 to right-handed batters this year.

Miller continues to defy the odds a bit this year as his ERA (2.56) continues to sit well below his season SIERA (3.96). Regression is bound to happen at some point this year, but he has pitched well regardless. Miller has a 20.8% strikeout rate on the season and gets a matchup today against the Nationals who have a .314 wOBA against righties and a high strikeout rate. The offense is a bit too hot to take Miller tonight except for an SP2 Rating = 5.5

Gio Gonzalez

Atlanta Braves vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.291 (Rank: 27)
Strikeout Rate: 20.4% (Rank: 11)

Gonzalez has really yet to find his groove all season long. He has posted his lowest ERA since 2009 (4.13) as well as his lowest SIERA in five years (3.84). Gio has really struggled over his last four games as he has allowed 17 runs in just 18.1 innings pitched. His matchup against the Braves is solid as they strikeout against lefties at a much higher clip than righties (20.4%). Gio is very tough to trust at the moment, but the matchup is worthy of a tournament play. Rating = 7

Atlanta

Even though Gio is tough to trust, this Braves squad does not feature many big time bats any longer. Garcia is a decent, cheap play that should hit in the top five of the order and makes a good tournament play.

Salazar gets the start today and has a ton of upside going into this matchup. He holds an elite 26.6% strikeout rate on the season and gets a decent matchup against the Tigers who Tomlin just pitched very well against. The Tigers only have a 3.68 team total and Salazar is a solid play tonight. Rating = 7.5

Alfredo Simon

Cleveland Indians vs. RH Pitching: (2015)

Simon has been a guy to attack, especially recently. Over the last month, Simon has posted a 7.20 ERA, while allowing six home runs over just five starts. He has a tough matchup tonight against the Indians and should be avoided in all formats. Rating = 3

Santana surprised us all in his last start as he shut down this solid Houston offense. Prior to that start, Santana really struggled and posted a 9.20 ERA over his previous six starts. It is hard to trust a pitcher coming off a run like that and now has to face an offense twice in a row. Rating = 3

Lance McCullers

Minnesota Twins vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.301 (Rank: 25)
Strikeout Rate: 21.5% (Rank: 25)

McCullers has had a solid season this year as he comes into this game with a SIERA of 3.57 and upside with a 24.9% strikeout rate. He gets a decent matchup against the Twins who are a much weaker offense against right-handed pitching. He makes a great option tonight as the Astros are -175 favorites and he should get a good amount of run support. Rating = 7.5

Avoiding the Twins tonight is a good option as they have just a 3.57 team total. With that said, Sano has been solid against right-handed pitching with a wOBA of .447 and ISO of .361. He could be a high upside tournament play that should be low owned tonight.
