Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.329 (Rank: 13) — Strikeout Rate: 23.1% (Rank: 24)
Pitches per PA: 3.80 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Despite all of the pressure on this young Mets’ pitching staff, Matz has enjoyed a nice rookie season, posting a 3.99 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.3%. Matz is coming off of an excellent start against the Yankees in which he struck out four batters while only allowing a single earned run in six innings of work. He is a sizable favorite tonight against the Reds and while I do like the upside at his price point, he is best suited as a tournament play.
Pitcher Rating: 74.5
Josh Smith : FD: $5,000 — DK: $4,000

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 17) — Strikeout Rate: 20.7% (Rank: 11)
Pitches per PA: 3.88 (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Smith has not pitched well in his first four major league starts, posting a 5.95 SIERA (7.71 ERA) with a walk rate of 16.3%. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against a talented Mets’ offense. To make matters worse, he has to face them at home in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark. Smith should be avoided in both cash games and tournaments.

NY Mets
The Mets draw a terrific matchup tonight against rookie Josh Smith in a hitter-friendly ballpark. The Mets have a high team total and hitters from both sides of the plate are in play against the inexperienced right-hander. This could be the series where we see the Mets’ offense get rolling again.

Cincinnati
The Reds draw a tough matchup tonight against Steven Matz. While the sample size is still small, Matz has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .320 wOBA this season. Todd Frazier deserves consideration on FanDuel ($2,900), but he is the only Reds’ hitter on my radar in this one.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.313 (Rank: 19) — Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 6)
Pitches per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Asher has not pitched well in his first 19 big league innings, posting a 5.48 SIERA (9.78 ERA) with a strikeout rate of only 11.8%. Even with a favorable matchup against the Marlins, he should not be on your radar tonight. There are very few times during the season when the Marlins have this high of a team total (4.63) at home. That should be very telling.

Jarred Cosart : FD: $6,400 — DK: $5,000

Pitches per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 27)
Analysis: Cosart has been a serviceable pitcher over the last two seasons, posting a 4.43 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 15.2%. While those numbers don’t leap off the page at us, he is a very interesting play tonight against the Phillies, who are ranked dead last in both team wOBA and strikeout rate over the last two weeks of play. Additionally, Cosart gets to face them at home in the pitcher-friendly Marlins Park. He doesn’t have a high enough floor for consideration on single pitcher sites, but I have my eye on him as an SP2 on DraftKings.
Pitcher Rating: 62.8

Philadelphia
The Phillies’ offense has all but disappeared down the stretch of the regular season. To be ranked dead last in both team wOBA and strikeout rate over the last two weeks is impressive. At this point, there is no reason to target the Phillies’ hitters.

Miami
The Marlins draw a favorable matchup tonight against Alec Asher, who has allowed a .450+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters this season — yes I know, the sample size is small. I will still be heavily targeting this lineup though, as they have a high team total and their bats are very affordable tonight.

Analysis: Paxton is a talented young left-handed pitcher, but he is still a wildcard at this point. He should be avoided tonight against the Royals, who have the lowest strikeout rate of any team against left-handed pitching this season. We should trust Vegas in this situation, as Paxton is a large underdog tonight on the road.

Analysis: Cueto has not been the pitcher that the Royals were hoping to acquire when they traded for him. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.11 SIERA (7.90 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 16.5%. He’s still Johnny Cueto though, and a discounted price point is certainly appealing. He draws a favorable matchup against the Mariners, who are ranked 19th in team wOBA and 27th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Seattle
Even though Johnny Cueto has looked very hittable in his last few starts, he has still held both left and right-handed hitters under a .290 wOBA over the last two seasons. The Mariners should be considered secondary options at best tonight in the pitcher-friendly Kaufmann Stadium.

The Royals draw a decent matchup tonight against James Paxton. While Paxton is a reverse-splits pitcher, that doesn’t mean that we have to avoid the right-handed bats in this lineup. Lorenzo Cain is a borderline elite play, as he has a .390 wOBA against southpaws since the start of last season.
