Mike Fiers : FD: $8,200 — DK: $8,600

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 183.2 — SIERA: 3.40 — ERA: 3.23 — K%: 25.2% — BB%: 7.8% — HR/9: 1.0

San Francisco Giants Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.329 (Rank: 4) — Strikeout Rate: 18.0% (Rank: 5)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.346 (Rank: 6) — Strikeout Rate: 19.9% (Rank: 15)
Pitchers per PA: 3.75 (Rank: 23)

Analysis: Fiers has not been the same pitcher that he was last season. When you compare his numbers in the two years, you would think that you were looking at two completely different pitchers. His SIERA and walk rate are both up, while his strikeout rate has taken a big hit this year. Fiers is still priced as an elite strikeout pitcher, but he’s just not that guy anymore. He should be avoided against the Giants, who are ranked fourth in team wOBA and fifth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Pitcher Rating:59.1

Jake Peavy : FD: $7,000 — DK: $6,000

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 236.0 — SIERA: 4.17 — ERA: 3.89 — K%: 18.1% — BB%: 7.4% — HR/9: 1.1

Milwaukee Brewers Offense (2015)

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 20.4% (Rank: 18)
Pitchers per PA: 3.71 (Rank: 27)

Analysis: Peavy has not been sharp over the last month of play, posting a 4.56 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 14.6%. He draws a tough matchup against a Brewers’ offense that has been very good over the last month. With Felix Hernandez and Jon Lester being in such good spots, there is no reason to target Peavy today against Milwaukee.

Pitcher Rating:60.5

Milwaukee

The Brewers draw a decent matchup against Jake Peavy, whose strikeout rate continues to decline. Since the start of last season, Peavy has given up a .337 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Adam Lind and Gerardo Parra are both in play, but they are secondary options at their respective positions.

San Francisco

The Giants draw a favorable matchup against Mike Fiers, who as mentioned above, has been a completely different pitcher this season. In 2015, he has given up a .323+ wOBA to hitters from both sides of the plate. Brandon Belt, Buster Posey, and Joe Panik are all in play here.

Analysis: Foltynewicz has been a serviceable starter for the Braves, posting a 4.03 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 19.8%. He’s an easy pitcher to avoid tonight though, as he draws a tough matchup against the Orioles in the hitter-friendly Camden Yards. On the season, Baltimore is ranked tenth in team wOBA against right-handed pitching. He’s one of the biggest underdogs on the board tonight for a reason.

Pitcher Rating:48.8

Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 18)

Analysis: Tillman has pitched very well over the last month of play, posting a 3.26 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.2%. He has improved his command and he is throwing strikes at a much higher clip. While the Braves may not strikeout at a high rate, they are ranked 22nd in team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Tillman is cheap and he should get plenty of run support tonight. He deserves consideration in tournaments and as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

The Braves draw a mediocre matchup against Chris Tillman, who has been sharp in his recent outings. The good news here is that they get to face him in a hitter-friendly American League ballpark. The Orioles are the largest favorites in the evening slate of games, second only to the Blue Jays. Analysis: Williams is arguably the worst pitching option on the bump tonight. He hasn’t been as bad as advertised, but over the last two seasons he owns a mediocre SIERA of 4.25 with a low strikeout rate of 15.0%. He gives up a high wOBA to left and right-handed hitters and he draws a nasty matchup against the Blue Jays in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. He should be avoided in all league formats tonight.

Analysis: Dickey is the largest favorite on the board tonight, but that says more about the offense behind him than it does the way he has been pitching. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.31 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 14.9%. He does draw a favorable matchup against the Phillies, but they are not a team that strikes out that often. Dickey may be a cheap source to get that elusive win, but there isn’t a ton of upside tonight in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre.

The Phillies see a major ballpark boost playing in the Rogers Centre. It’s one of the best hitter’s parks in all of baseball. They draw a favorable matchup against R.A. The Blue Jays have the highest team total on the board tonight, as they square off against Jerome Williams at home. Since the start of the 2014 season, Williams has given up a .348+ wOBA to left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. Troy Tulowitzki will likely make his debut tonight. Analysis: Koehler has a 1.69 ERA over the last month of play, but don’t let that one statistic fool you. During that stretch, he has a 4.10 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 16.5%. The Nationals had Ryan Zimmermann and Jayson Werth back in their lineup last night, which changes the dynamic of this offense. They are no longer a team that we can pick on each night. Koehler does have a big ballpark at his back, but he’s a bit overpriced for his matchup and what he brings to the table.

The Nationals draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Tom Koehler, who has held left and right-handed hitters under a .310 wOBA over the last two seasons. While I don’t love either pitcher in this matchup, it’s hard to get excited about the hitters in a game that features a total of 7.5 runs.

Analysis: Ross has pitched well recently, posting a 2.97 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 26.0%. Ross does walk a few too many batters, but we can live with it when he is racking up the strikeouts. He has much better numbers at home than he does on the road in his career, but he gets a similar style of park tonight in Citi Field. He has one of the best matchups on the board, as he faces a Mets’ offense that is ranked 26th in team wOBA and 16th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

San Diego Padres Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.290 (Rank: 27) — Strikeout Rate: 22.0% (Rank: 27)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.296 (Rank: 21) — Strikeout Rate: 23.7% (Rank: 25)
Pitchers per PA: 3.82 (Rank: 13)

Analysis: Colon has been quietly returned to his early season form, posting a 3.61 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 19.8% over the last month of play. This is a good matchup for him, as the Padres are one of the worst offenses in baseball. On the season, they are ranked 27th in both team wOBA and strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. There will be very few people on Colon tonight, which makes him an appealing tournament play.

Pitcher Rating:67.9

Batter Grind Down

San Diego

The Padres are not an offense that I want to target right now. They’ve been on a cold stretch for the better part of a month. They do not hit right-handed pitching well and their opponent, Bartolo Colon, has pitched well recently. Matt Kemp and Will Venable are secondary options tonight.

NY Mets

The Mets draw a difficult matchup tonight against Tyson Ross. They are a team that has struggled against right-handed pitching this season, although they have been much better recently. If you are targeting any hitters here, target the ones that can hit from the left side of the plate.
