Analysis: Owens has not been sharp in his recent outings, posting a 4.49 SIERA over the last month of play. He draws a favorable matchup against the Orioles on paper, but they are a potent offense that can score at home. He can safely be avoided, as he is a sizable underdog tonight on the road.

Analysis: Wright has had a subpar rookie season, posting a 4.96 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 14.2%. He draws one of the toughest matchups on the board tonight, as the Red Sox are ranked eighth in team wOBA and second in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Both pitchers should be avoided in what is expected to be a shootout.
Pitcher Rating: 36.3

Analysis: Arrieta is making a push for the National League Cy Young award. He has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 1.98 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 30.4%. He draws a mediocre matchup tonight against the Pirates, who are ranked 17th in team wOBA and 19th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. He’s not the largest favorite on the board, but he should still be considered one of the top pitching options available tonight.

Analysis: Burnett has pitched well at PNC Park in his career, but he is still trying to shake off the rust since coming back from injury. I’d like to see a quality start or two from him before I consider using him in daily fantasy. He draws a fairly difficult matchup tonight against the Cubs, who have the fourth-highest team wOBA over the last two weeks of play.
Pitcher Rating: 64.2

Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are small favorites tonight, but this game features a low total of 6.5 runs, which limits the fantasy appeal of both offenses. A.J. Burnett has allowed a .336 wOBA to left-handed hitters over the last two seasons. The lefties in this Cubs’ lineup are secondary options tonight.

He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Phillies, who are ranked 28th in both team wOBA and strikeout rate over the last two weeks of play. Analysis: Price has been a great addition to the Blue Jays’ pitching staff. When he takes the mound, you can pretty much pencil in a Blue Jays’ win with the way their offense has been playing. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Braves, who have the fourth-lowest team wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Price also sees a boost playing in a National League ballpark. He is arguably the top pitching option on the board tonight.

Miller is a large underdog tonight at home against the Blue Jays, who are ranked first in team wOBA and seventh in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. He is overpriced for his matchup against the best offense in baseball.

Analysis: Duffy has actually pitched a little better than his recent ERA would suggest. Over the last month of play, he has a 3.81 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 24.0%. The issue here is his matchup against the Indians. On the season, Cleveland is ranked 13th in team wOBA and sixth in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. Analysis: Salazar has not been in great form recently, posting a 3.68 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20.7% over the last month of play. While most starters would take those numbers in a heartbeat, we typically don’t like to target pitchers that are in bad form, especially when they are dealing with a tough matchup like the Royals. On the season, Kansas City is ranked fifth in team wOBA and first in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching.

Even though I won’t be targeting Danny Salazar against the Royals, I’m not going to target the Royals against Salazar either. Since the start of last season, Salazar has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .310 wOBA.

The Indians draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Danny Duffy. While they do get to face him at home, Duffy doesn’t have exploitable splits. He has given up a .321 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons, but I still see the Indians as secondary plays tonight.
