Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder haven’t been able to get their revenge on Kevin Durant this season, but it’s not as if they haven’t tried. They had their hate out in full force on Saturday night and we even handing out free cupcake shirts to the fans to try to get into Durant’s head. While tonight’s game isn’t nearly as meaningful, it should be a lot closer. The Thunder are listed as only 5-point underdogs with an implied total of 105.8 points, which is nearly identical to their season average. The Wizards used to be a team that we didn’t mind stacking players against, but they are now ranked above the league average in all four defensive statistics listed above.

Russell Westbrook is about as matchup proof of a player as we will find in the NBA and the Thunder basically go as he goes. If they are going to keep the game close, it will be thanks to another big game from NESWestbrook. The Wizards have been tough on opposing point guards this season, but John Wall is an average defender in terms of his DRPM. Westbrook is the top overall play in a slate that doesn’t have James Harden in it. Victor Oladipo would typically be in play here, but shooting guard is full of options tonight with 11 games on the schedule. Andre Roberson is averaging 27 fantasy points in his last three games, but I will let others chase that production. The only other play of note here is Steven Adams. He is averaging 27.3 fantasy points per game without Enes Kanter in the lineup and he could push for 35+ minutes tonight against the Wizards.

Washington Wizards

The Wizards have won nine of their last ten games and are now in third place in the Eastern Conference. I remember a couple of months ago where they were out of the playoff picture entirely. If they continue to play this well the rest of the season, no team is going to want to face them in the playoffs. Washington comes into tonight’s game with an implied total of 110.8 points against a Thunder defense that is ranked 15th in points allowed per game and seventh in defensive efficiency.

John Wall is averaging 46 fantasy points per game in his last three, but he basically needs to score 55 fantasy points to meet value expectations at his price point. It is certainly in his possible range of outcomes, but paying a premium for a player in an 11-game slate is never ideal. I will have a few shares of Wall in game stacks (with Russell Westbrook), but will look elsewhere in cash games. Bradley Beal has been on a tear in his last three games, averaging 43 fantasy points per contest. He should draw the defense of Andre Roberson though, who has a DRPM of +2.03 this season. Otto Porter and Markieff Morris are fringe tournament plays tonight, but it’s not a particularly great matchup for either player. Marcin Gortat’s minutes have been on the rise recently and he is underpriced (like every other center) on DraftKings at $6,100. While I like the spot for the Wizards as a whole, they are appropriately priced across the industry.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers have won two games in a row, but their playoff push seems to have come to an end. They are well back of eighth place in the East and there is still no timetable for the return of Joel Embiid. There have been numerous trade rumors surrounding Jahlil Okafor in the past couple of weeks and it sounds like a trade is imminent. He didn’t even travel with the team and is not expected to play tonight. The Sixers come into the game as 8-point underdogs with an implied total of 102.3 points. The Hornets have been tough at home, but there are a few viable options in the Sixers’ frontcourt.

I still don’t understand why the CourtIQ tool is free, but if you aren’t using it, I highly suggest that you check it out. If we run a query with Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor off the floor, we can see that almost every player in the lineup sees a 2-3% usage boost. The clear winners here are Ersan Ilyasova, Nerlens Noel, and Dario Saric, who all average at least 35 fantasy points per 36 minutes with those two off the floor. All three of the Sixers’ power forwards are in play tonight and I’d argue that the only better value at the position is Frank Kaminsky on FanDuel. Noel is my favorite play of the three Sixers, but they are all very close. Ilyasova and Saric are both elite tournament plays. Robert Covington also sees a nice usage boost with Embiid out and he could push for 35 minutes. I hate paying that salary for a player with such an erratic game log, but Covington is worth a look in all formats. T.J. McConnell has played well as a starter, but there are better options at point guard in an 11-game slate.

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets have lost nine of their last ten games and would not make the playoffs if the regular season ended today. It’s crazy how far they have fallen, as they were basically one of the top four teams in the East for the first couple months of the season. They should be able to pick up a win tonight at home against the Sixers, but there are no sure things in the NBA. This is an exploitable matchup for fantasy production, as the Sixers are ranked 22nd in points allowed per game. The Hornets have an implied total of 110.3 points, which is the fifth highest in the slate and 6.3 points above their season average.

Kemba Walker has failed to score 30 fantasy points in each of his last five games, but I like his chances to end that streak tonight. He is generally better at home than he is on the road and the Hornets have a massive implied total. With that said, I still see him as more of a tournament play in this large slate. Nicolas Batum is averaging 42 fantasy points in his last three games and is also worth a look for tournaments. When it comes to cash games, there are better plays available. The real value from Charlotte tonight is in the frontcourt. Cody Zeller has already been ruled out of tonight’s game, which should result in 30+ minutes for both Marvin Williams and Frank Kaminsky. Williams should get overlooked for the most part tonight, making him an excellent tournament play. Kaminsky is close to a lock for FanDuel cash games at a price of only $4,800.

Orlando Magic

The Magic are not going to be a playoff team this season and really don’t have a lot to play for the rest of the way. As we get closer to the end of the regular season, we will want to limit our exposure to teams in these situations, but that won’t be for another six weeks or so. The Magic come into tonight’s game as 9-point underdogs against the red-hot Heat, who have been on fire. In fact, they have been blazing over the last few weeks. Their opponents have been burning and combusting. All right, enough fire jokes. Basically, the Heat have been the best team in basketball over the last 15 games. Orlando has an implied total of only 99.3 points, which is the lowest in the entire slate.

With such a low team total, we can keep the analysis for the Magic short and sweet. They are expected to have Aaron Gordon back in the lineup, which cuts into the minutes and production of Evan Fournier, Serge Ibaka, and Mario Hezonja. The point guard minutes for the Magic are far too difficult to predict on a nightly basis and there is no reason to look at C.J. Watson or Elfrid Payton in such a large slate. The only play of note that I see here is Nikola Vucevic. He is averaging 38 fantasy points per game in his last three and he has a tremendous track record against Miami. He has scored at least 42 fantasy points in four of his last five games against Hassan Whiteside and the Heat.

Miami Heat

The Heat have been a fun team to target during their winning streak, but that may come to an end now that Dion Waiters is back and Josh Richardson is close to being back. The Heat’s win streak officially ended the other night against the Sixers, which was fitting. They will try to start a new streak tonight against the Magic, who are one of the worst teams in the NBA. Miami comes into the game with an implied total of 108.3 points, which is 7.2 points above their season average and the ninth highest in the slate.

Goran Dragic is one of the easier fades on the board tonight. He has really played well during their winning streak, but his minutes and usage may go down now that Dion Waiters is back in the lineup. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t like the idea of paying a premium for a player in an 11-game slate. With Waiters back, we can also fade the likes of Wayne Ellington and Rodney McGruder, who will go back to their normal roles. Speaking of Waiters, I am going to give him a game before targeting him in DFS. At his price point, he is an extremely risky fantasy option tonight. We can still give Tyler Johnson a look in tournaments, but if I were making 15 lineups, he would probably only be on one of them. James Johnson is averaging 38 fantasy points in his last three games and is firmly in play again tonight. The same goes for Hassan Whiteside, who has scored at least 40 fantasy points in each of his last five games against the Magic.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies have won seven of their last ten games and are slowly creeping up the standings in the Western Conference. They draw quite possibly the best matchup in all of fantasy basketball, as they get to square off against the Nets in Brooklyn. On the season, the Nets are ranked first in pace of play and dead last in points allowed per game, which creates a great environment for fantasy production. The Grizzlies have an implied total of 110 points, which is the sixth highest in the slate and 9.2 points above their season average.

The question here isn’t whether or not the Grizzlies are going to have a good game offensively, it’s whether or not the game will stay close enough for the starters to see a full complement of minutes. While the 9.5-point spread is a concern, I’m willing to overlook it given the upside in this matchup. Mike Conley could end up being one of the best point-per-dollar point guard plays in the slate if this game stays close. The Nets are ranked dead last against point guards and Cnoely is averaging over a fantasy point per minute this season. No one ever seems to play Tony Allen, but I like his upside against a Nets’ team that turns the ball over and gets blocked as often as any team in the league. This may be the first time this season that I roster Chandler Parsons. He is finally seeing minutes in the low to mid-20s and he is still close to min-salary on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Marc Gasol is still underpriced on DraftKings and thanks to the stats that I mentioned earlier, his block and steal upside are massive. Zach Randolph could be worth a look in tournaments on DraftKings. I expect him to come in at less than 10% ownership.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets find themselves in one of the worst matchups on the board. They have to face a Grizzlies’ team that is ranked 28th in pace of play, third in points allowed per game, and fourth in defensive efficiency. Whenever we have big slates like we do tonight, there are usually a few teams that we can cross off our potential list of targets. The Nets are among the favorites to make the list tonight, as they have an implied total of only 100.5 points. Brooklyn’s projected point differential of -4.6 is the second lowest in the slate. There will be a few people clamoring to target Brook Lopez at $6,400 tonight on DraftKings, but Marc Gasol is one of the best defenders in the NBA. There is a reason why the Grizzlies are ranked first against centers.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs are playing in the second half of a back-to-back and their third game in four nights. We haven’t heard anything about them resting players tonight, but know that it is certainly a possibility. In terms of their matchup against the Pacers, this is a favorable one for fantasy production. On the season, Indiana is ranked 20th in points allowed per game and 27th in rebounding differential. The Spurs come into the game as 3.5-point favorites with an implied total of 104.8 points.

For the purposes of this article, let’s assume that the Spurs will have everyone available for tonight’s game. If that’s the case, there are only two players on my radar – Kawhi Leonard and Dewayne Dedmon. Leonard is averaging 49 fantasy points over his last three games and is averaging five more fantasy points per game without Pau Gasol in the lineup. Leonard’s price is getting up there, but he is still worth a look in all formats, especially on DraftKings ($8,900). Over his last three games, Dedmon is averaging 27 minutes and 29 fantasy points per game. He grades out as one of the best value plays at center tonight on FanDuel.

Indiana Pacers

After a nice winning streak, the Pacers have lost three games in a row. They will try to right the ship tonight against the Spurs, who represent one of the most difficult matchups in all of fantasy basketball. In addition to the slow pace of play, San Antonio is ranked second in points allowed per game and first in defensive efficiency. The Pacers have an implied total of only 101.3 points, which is the fourth lowest in the slate and 4.3 points below their season average. The Spurs are ranked seventh or better in fantasy points allowed to point guards, small forwards, and centers this season, which basically takes Jeff Teague, Paul George, and Myles Turner out of consideration. As crazy as it sounds, C.J. Miles is my favorite play here and he is a GPP dart at best in this slate.
