Utah Jazz

The Jazz are really dealing with major injuries to their starters this season but get a pace bump playing against the Rockets tonight. There is no denying that the Rockets will play an uptempo style of basketball at home. The main beneficiaries from the pace-up game should be Gordon Hayward and Rodney Hood. Hayward was seen holding his finger on multiple occasions after a dunk on Thursday and no one is sure he has fully healed. Since the injury is on his non-shooting hand, he is still able to make an impact but has shot under 30 percent in his last two contests. The minutes have and usage have been there, but since he’s shown that he is still injured, he’s too risky for cash games.

Rodney Hood is coming off an illness and was actually shooting really well before starting to slump this past week. Hood was shooting 50% or better in 5 out of his 8 starts this season. That’s pretty good for someone that attempted 5.75 three-pointers in those contests. With Patrick Beverley back in the lineup for the Rockets, James Harden will still be the PG on offense but will likely defend Hood on defense. Hood attempted a season-high-tying 16 field goals against the Bulls on Thursday, meaning his usage is trending in the right direction. Still, since he is slightly slumping he might be too risky for cash games on a full slate.

Rudy Gobert played a season-high 41 minutes on Thursday and should see 33+ minutes again tonight. Even though the Rockets like to play at a faster pace, Gobert is not a lumbering big man and should be able to stay on the court. He also had a season-high tying nine field goal attempts, and while he’s not getting the offensive volume he makes it up on the boards and defensive categories. Trey Lyles should also be expected to play heavy minutes tonight. Boris Diaw started on Thursday but was obviously hurting the team more than helping and it’ll be surprising if he sees more than 22 minutes tonight. Trey Lyles looks like a better play on FanDuel, where you need two PFs, and his salary is only $4k compared to $5k on DraftKings. The 3PM bonus could boost his value on DK, keeping him in on the radar for tournaments.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets are finally healthy and firing on all cylinders. They dismantled a slumping Blazers team on Thursday, with James Harden putting up a triple-double in three quarters. Harden remains an elite option but will need to score 60+ fantasy points to really make us happy. It’ll be tough to fade Harden in cash games with all the possible value plays that are already available on the slate. Luckily, we don’t have to deal with this quandary on the main slate and can just lock him in if you’re playing the all-day slate. Trevor Ariza, Eric Gordon, and Ryan Anderson are all really benefiting from all the open shots that Harden is creating. None of them are mandatory options to go along with Harden, but Ariza likely provides the highest floor since he’s recorded a steal in all but one game this season and is also averaging 5.1 rebounds per game.

Dallas Mavericks

With so many injuries to the Mavericks guards, don’t let one bad game against a strong defensive team in the Grizzlies get you off Seth Curry. He still got up 14 shot attempts last night and played 32 minutes. Tonight, the Mavs get the 5-7 Magic and this looks like a bounce back spot for Curry. We can hope that since he did not play well last night, the recency bias users will not use him again. I’d consider Curry a solid cash game option that also tournament upside.

Harrison Barnes also did not play well against the Grizzlies but should bust out against the Magic. Since his salary has ballooned to nearly $7k on DraftKings, it’ll be tough to justify him in cash games. Since he has multi-position eligibility, he’s still a strong option for tournaments since the position is so top heavy and people could ignore him after last night. On FanDuel, he’s a viable option if you’re looking to save off of Durant, Wiggins, and Butler. All three players have been playing out of their minds, so it’s not seem wise to ignore them tonight in favor of Barnes.

Even though Barnes has been playing well, he’s only had one huge performance, and that came in an overtime game against the lowly Bucks. Justin Anderson is the one player we should look at off the bench in this game. He’s $200 above min price on FD and only $3.5k on DK. He played 32 minutes and fills up the stat sheet. If you’re looking for a viable punt SF, he’s one of the top options. Andrew Bogut deserves an honorable mention but there’s too many good options at C to force him into your lineups.

Orlando Magic

The low total of this game is really concerning for the upside of everyone involved. Still, everyone is priced fairly and they have pretty low bars to jump over to make value. Evan Fournier leads the team in minutes and FGA and since we usually struggle to find two solid SGs, he’s a viable option in all formats on FanDuel. On DraftKings, he’s not mandatory but comes at a considerable discount compared to the rest of the viable players in the pool. Elfrid Payton is the only other Magic player that is averaging 30 MPG a game and is in play for tournaments as well. He’s extremely volatile since he does not have a reliable jumpshot.

Miami Heat

The Heat have already ruled out Justise Winslow, and it looks like Josh Richardson will continue to start. Richardson’s salary has jumped, but if Waiters is limited in any way, Richardson will glady step up. Dion Waiters continues to see minutes and has played 34 or more minutes in his last three contests. He’s also attempted 22 or more field goals in two out of his last three games. Even with Goran Dragic back in the mix, Waiters is going to chuck up the shots. He’s cheaper than any guard on the Miami roster and leads the team in true usage at 25.5%. He’s an strong option in all formats, but since he is still Dion Waiters he does carry some risk and his updated groin injury, makes him better served for tournaments.

Goran Dragic returned to the lineup on Thursday and played 35 minutes. The Dragon will face a stiff test against John Wall tonight but is still a reliable cash game option. He’s scored 50+ fantasy points, so the upside is there for tournaments as well. He’s not a mandatory option in a tough matchup but is definitely going to see the most minutes out of all the PGs in his salary range. Hassan Whiteside has been on an absolute tear and is averaging 18.6 rebounds over his last five contests. Whiteside is an elite tournament option that is a viable big man pivot off of Anthony Davis tonight.

Washington Wizards

John Wall is trending in the right direction over his last couple games but is a slightly risky option tonight at his inflated salary levels. With so many good point guards available today, Wall is not mandatory in a tough matchup. Still, since he is John Wall he deserves consideration for tournaments proven by his 60 fantasy points he scored earlier this season. Marcin Gortat is in a nice spot to exceed value and has played 30+ minutes in three consecutive games. Gortat has the best matchup on the team tonight and is averaging a studly 12.2 rebounds a game this season. Since the Heat rank third in rebound differential it’ll be a huge battle on the boards tonight with Gortat and Whiteside.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics will travel to Detroit after getting destroyed by the Warriors at home last night. The good news is Isaiah Thomas played the least amount of minutes he’s played all season. The bad news is Marcus Smart exited with an ankle injury. This team is really banged up right now and will need Thomas and Avery Bradley to really carry them if Crowder, Horford, and Smart miss the game. Avery Bradley is an elite rebounding guard this season since the Celtics bigs are so terrible. That does not bode well for tonight since Andre Drummond is in the building. Isaiah Thomas is dealing with a sprained finger but gets the best matchup tonight.

We could see Jaylen Brown starting again and Terry Rozier is also a viable option off the bench. Kelly Olynyk bottomed out last night after a hot start since returning from his shoulder injury. Brad Stevens loves to play the matchups and it’ll be tough to guage who will see most of the minutes if Crowder, Horford, and Smart are out. Outside of Thomas, this is a wait and see situation. We’ll have many of these tonight, so if you’re playing, don’t plan to be out and about enjoying your Saturday or you will miss some huge news that’ll swing the slate, seriously.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons got blown out as expected in Cleveland last night and come back home to face the Celtics. It’s actually good for the fantasy value of Tobias Harris that they got blown out. He only played 20 minutes and did not play after the five-minute mark in the third quarter. Look for Harris to bounce back tonight against the Celtics and hopefully after his dud, we can get him at lower ownership than he should be. Harris was playing really well before last night and was averaging 37.33 MPG over his last three games. Last night was the first time all season that he played under 30 minutes, so expect him to get his normal allotment of minutes tonight.

Andre Drummond should be able to feast on the Celtics bigs but he might not be 100% healthy due to an ankle injury. He’s too risky for cash and not the best tournament option center on the board tonight. Still, since Boston really struggles to grab rebounds, 20 rebounds for Drummond is not out of the question. The sad part is since he is so inept on the offensive end, he’ll need 17+ rebounds to exceed value tonight. Not sure if that’s something we can rely upon with total confidence on an injured player. Marcus Morris is a solid option as well, since his salary is still around $5k on both sites. He’s too volatile for cash games but can make value if he scores 15 points and grabs some rebounds.

Update: Cody Zeller is not questionable

The Hornets travel to New Orleans after defeating the Hawks at home last night. Nicolas Batum has been on a tear, scoring 40+ fantasy points in four consecutive games. Hopefully, you guys jumped on the train before it took off because he is a multi cat monster that has not played less than 30 minutes in any contest this season. There is no point jumping off the train because the Pelicans are also playing on the second night of a back-to-back. Batum is the best option at SG on FanDuel on the main slate. Waiters is a close second due to price, but that could be in question now that Waiters is dealing with a groin injury. Over on DraftKings, Batum is multi-position eligible and also has Jimmy Butler to deal with in his pool. Still, due to price I’ll give the slight nod to Batum, but it’s really possible to fit Batum and Butler together for cash games.

Kemba Walker has also been playing out of his mind the past couple weeks and has not scored under 21 real points this season. The minutes have been there and he’s playable in all formats. Marvin Williams is a viable option since he is only $4.8k on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Williams gets the three-point bonus on DraftKings and is averaging a career-best 7.2 rebounds a game. The floor is there and if he plays 30+ minutes tonight, he’ll put up close to 30+ fantasy points. He has not played 30 minutes in his last three starts, so he’s more of a punt tournament play than a cash game lock. Still, he was seeing 30+ minutes before an illness caused him to be limited. He’ll also have to deal with Anthony Davis a ton tonight since he is their best interior defender.

New Orleans Pelicans

Anthony Davis is BACK!!! He dropped a nice 70-burger last night on DraftKings and is the most expensive option on the main slate. Expect his ownership to be high after most people were likely hesitant to pull the trigger last night and will chase that 70. From a cash game perspective, it might be a bad idea to fade AD since he gets 50 fantasy points in his sleep
when healthy. He only needs 54 to reach 5x on DraftKings and is multi-position eligible. From a game theory perspective for GPPs, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Hassan Whiteside, and Jimmy Butler could have a higher raw total fantasy score. I’m not suggesting fading AD, but look how your rosters look with and without him before locking anything in.

Jrue Holiday returned last night for the Pelicans and absolutely dominated in his limited minutes. Since he’ll likely be limited to under 25 minutes tonight, he’s only a viable tournament option. The interesting thing is that Alvin Gentry played Holiday and Frazier together against the Blazers last night. He might not get that luxury tonight because Batum is the starting SG. With Holiday back in the mix, Buddy Hield only played 7 minutes. He is no longer an option until he can prove that he’s going to play even close to 18 minutes. Langston Galloway did play 20 minutes last night but is also too risky. E’Twaun Moore is getting the minutes and is a viable punt option if you’re searching for one in that $4-5k range.
