Philadelphia 76ers

Happy Sunday! We get a nice five-game slate started off in Detroit. This game has the biggest spread and Joel Embiid is not playing for the Sixers tonight. Nerlens Noel is expected to make his season debut off the bench, and Jahlil Okafor is expected to return and start in place of Embiid. Okafor was playing well before his illness and even saw a season-high 33 minutes against the Celtics before he went out. Nerlens Noel will have his minutes monitored, so it seems that Okafor is a lock to play 28-30 minutes tonight. Andre Drummond has been exploitable by big men with solid post games, but with the game expected to get out of hand, Okafor is not my favorite center in this salary range.

Sergio Rodriguez has been playing well since Jerryd Bayless has been out and even played 30+ minutes in three of his last four starts. He’ll be a solid contributor tonight but continues to see his salary spike. He’s a fine mid-range play, but as with Okafor, I’d only go with him in tournaments. Ersan Ilyasova has been playing his best ball of the season, but I’m worried about the return of Noel cutting into his upside. Robert Covington looks like a lock again for 30 minutes, but he’s shot 33 percent or worse in 14 starts this season. Nik Stauskas returned to the bench and got back to his hot shooting ways. He’s not a lock for minutes, so he’s a GPP option only.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons are expected to win by a large amount, but the one thing I’m watching is the news about Marcus Morris. He took an elbow to the face and had to go to the locker room on Friday. He was never diagnosed with a broken nose, but on a short slate, we need any value plays that can come up and Jon Leuer has proven he can be an elite value play. If Morris misses, Tobias Harris would also likely get a boost in value and move over to SF. Reggie Jackson saw a season-high 29 minutes against the Timberwolves and will continue to have his minutes ramped up. His shot is not falling, but he has a true usage rate of 31.9 percent since his return. He’s averaged 12 shot attempts and this looks like the perfect spot for him to get right. I’d hesitate to use him in cash games, but he’s the ideal tournament option because ownership should be off him in a game with a large spread and due to his current struggles. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope continues to see over 30 minutes but is not producing like he was at the end of November. Andre Drummond has been crushing teams in his last two games and has averaged 21 rebounds in his last those games. Not sure how many Pistons we could use but I’d wait for the Morris news before plugging them in.

Isaiah Thomas continues to be out for the Celtics, and Marcus Smart will likely start in his place again. Smart has not been playing that well but did take 11 shot attempts in 36 minutes against the Raptors on Friday. He’s a lock for the minutes and gets an upside game against the Thunder tonight. I’d expect most users to gravitate away from him since he has not really produced in his last two starts, but the minutes are there and he’ll pick up more steals than usual in his game. Smart does not have a ton of upside on DraftKings but is multi-position eligible. Al Horford has been a better play over on DraftKings and his salary is still under $7k. I’m hesitant on using big men against Steven Adams and won’t look at Horford tonight.

Avery Bradley has picked up the scoring load in the absence of Isaiah Thomas but is not an upside GPP play. He rarely gets over 6x and would need nearly 10 rebounds to really exceed value. Jae Crowder does not have a ton of upside since his salary has spiked slightly but is a cheap alternate who is locked into 30 minutes for this game. Terry Rozier has been taking advantage of Thomas’ absence and is still cheap on both DK and FD. I would not build around him since the minutes are less than those of Smart, but he has played well enough to be considered if needing a salary saver on DK. The price difference between Rozier and Smart has me gravitating towards Smart on FD and Rozier on DK. Kelly Olynyk has also seen his minutes on a steady increase and is playing more minutes than Amir Johnson. Kelly O is the sleeper big man who could have a solid game, but he’s too risky for cash, as well.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Russell Westbrook continues to rack up the triple-doubles, and there is no reason to think he won’t do it again here tonight. He’s a cash game lock who saw his salary drop $400 on DraftKings and $100 on FanDuel. He has 75 or more DraftKings fantasy points in four of his last six games with a high of 82.5 and a low of 61. That screams cash game elite, and considering his true usage rate of 45.1 percent, I’m not sure there is a reason to fade him. Yes, Smart is a legit defender and will deter him from some shots. But the assists and rebounds will be there for Beastbrook, and he has taken 22 or more shot attempts in seven straight games. On a short slate with solid value options, I can’t see myself avoiding Westbrook in cash.

Victor Oladipo went back to his struggling ways and will have to deal with Avery Bradley tonight. He’s an easy fade in this game and has only scored 40 or more FanDuel points in two of his last seven starts. Enes Kanter shows up as a player that has a higher true usage rate than Oladipo, making Oladipo a player I’d rather fade because he’s yet to even hit 50 FanDuel points this season. Speaking of Kanter, his minutes have gone back to being under 20 and he’s not a viable option unless Adams gets hurt again. Adams was hurt against the Pelicans but has bounced back nicely since then. He had one of his best games of the season, putting up 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against the Rockets. With the Celtics ranked 26th in rebounding differential, the chances of Adams getting his third consecutive double-double are high. Andre Roberson had a poor game against the Hawks last Monday but has scored over 21 FanDuel points in four of his last five games. He’s still cheap on both sites and multi-position eligible on DraftKings.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors were destroyed by the Grizzlies last night and had Zaza Pachulia miss the game with a wrist injury. He’s listed as questionable for tonight and his presences does not make a huge DFS impact. Anderson Varejao started in his place and played 18 minutes. He did not have a substantial fantasy impact and should be avoided tonight as well. His upside is not there but he is a cheap option. The Warriors just went small, and David West was able to make an impact in his 15 minutes. If Pachulia is out again, West is a viable minimum priced option on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Andre Iguodala did not play against the Grizzlies last night but should be back tonight. He’ll resume his customary 22-25 minutes role and is also a viable option if game stacking.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are in the most obvious bounce-back spots tonight, and while both are good options, Durant’s salary is back over $10k on FanDuel but only $9.3k on DraftKings. The minutes should be there tonight, but he’s a GPP option who has underperformed based on salary based expectations for five straight games. Curry has as well, but he has a lower hoop to jump over to make value and the easier DvP matchup. Draymond Green is also a viable tournament play, but it looks like a day to spend down a little bit off of Draymond in cash games. He did have huge games against the Timberwolves last season, so he should be considered for tournaments.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The T-Wolves always seem to play well against the Warriors, and tonight should not be an exception. The Warriors are traveling to Minnesota on the second night of a back-to-back, and this game should remain close for most of the contest. Yes, Vegas has set the game with large spread, but with the T-Woves have the fourth-highest implied total, a legit pace bump, and boost over their season average in points, so we have to consider them strong fantasy options. Zach Lavine had 41.8 DraftKings fantasy points in Oakland last month and is a lock for 36-40 minutes tonight. Andrew Wiggins did not have as good of a game, and I’d consider LaVine the better play of the two.

If Minnesota is to keep this game close, they’ll need a huge performance from Karl-Anthony Towns. KAT has seen his salary fall to a much more playable $8.1k on DraftKings, but he is still relatively expensive on FanDuel with his $8.7k salary. Since it is the lowest it’s been in a couple weeks, we should consider KAT a strong tournament option who scored 41.3 FanDuel points against the Warriors in their previous meeting. Nemanja Bjelica is listed as questionable, and if he misses the game Gorgui Dieng should play over 30 minutes. Dieng also had a strong showing against the Warriors in their previous meeting but has been in a slump, making him too risky for cash.

Anthony Davis was rested for last night’s game against the Clippers but should be playing tonight. He’s still far too expensive on FanDuel but could work on DraftKings. He’s simply a GPP option because most users won’t play him after getting burned last night. Tim Frazier bounced back against the Clippers and played 35+ minutes last night. He’ll be a lock for 30+ again tonight if Holiday and Moore are out. Due to the back-to-back games, Frazier’s salary did not jump, and he’s a viable cash game play tonight against the Suns.

Langston Galloway played 30 minutes last night, but as I mentioned, if his shot is not falling, he’ll not be able to exceed value. He’ll get a nice bounce back spot against the Suns tonight. He’s too risky for cash but works for GPPs. Buddy Hield was able to take advantage of Galloway’s struggles and played 36 minutes. He’ll be another viable tournament option without a ton of downside and an 8-10x upside on DraftKings. Solomon Hill continues to play over 30 minutes and is a viable punt option for cash games if you’re looking to save as your second forward. Keep an eye on the injury situation because the entire team could change if Holiday and/or Moore play.

Phoenix Suns

Eric Bledsoe carved up the Lakers on Friday and is still under $8k on DraftKings. He has scored 50+ DraftKings fantasy points in two of his last four games but really busted in those other two. He’ll a solid GPP option that 28.6 percent true usage rate and could work for cash, but hedoes carry some risk. Devin Booker has been cold but has also been dealing with foul issues. He should not have such issues against rookie Buddy Hield tonight. Since he has not performed well in five straight games, he carries to much risk for cash. Alex Len had his best performance against the Lakers but is also too risky for cash because his minutes are not secure. Earl Watson simply rides the hot hand. Tyson Chandler should be able to be that hot hand today against his former team. He’ll be needed out there a bunch against Anthony Davis. Jared Dudley is continuing to see minutes and could make for a viable punt option on the later slates. Not sure if I can lock him on the all-day slate, but this looks like a great spot for him to exceed salary based expectations.

The Knicks continue their road trip tonight in Los Angeles and have won five of their last six games. Derrick Rose is expected back, killing the value of Brandon Jennings. Carmelo Anthony had a huge game against the Kings and will look to keep it going tonight. He has yet to be consistent this season, but with Kristaps Porzingis dealing with a slight knee issue, I’d lock Carmelo into cash games. Derrick Rose is a nice tournament option who should not have much ownership since he has been out the last two games. If Kristaps Porzingis is limited at all, expect Joakim Noah to continue to step up. Noah played a 28 minutes against the Kings and should approach 30 minutes tonight. He’s SO cheap on DraftKings, sitting at $3.6k, that you can use him in double C lineups or just punt the position completely with him. Kyle O’Quinn continues to play solid ball and has been making the most out of his minutes, averaging 29.18 FanDuel points, with four of those games coming off the bench.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are really dealing with some injuries right now. Nick Young and Jose Calderon continue to be out, but Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell are listed as questionable. Both Randle and Russell have a chance at playing tonight but carry considerable risk due to their injuries. If both players do play Brandon Ingram could go back to the bench, and his cash game viability would go down. Lou Williams will continue to be a cash game play as well, but if Russell plays, I’m concerned about his upside. Jordan Clarkson has been slumping and could also be a candidate to go back to the bench if Russell plays. The Lakers are serious mystery right now, and the only thing we can count on is Lou Williams at this time.
