Chicago Bulls

The Bulls continue their road trip today in Minnesota after getting blown out by the Suns on Friday. Dwyane Wade is expected to play after hurting both his wrists in fall against Phoenix, and Jimmy Butler is questionable, but we’ll consider him a game-time decision. The Bulls are expected to score over their season average, and Wade is considerably more affordable than Butler. Shooting guard is truly lacking some elite options today, putting Wade firmly in play. Wade’s salary fell $800 on DraftKings, meaning we might have some potential upside here. With small forward having Kawhi Leonard in the same salary range as Butler, it seems Leonard is the smarter choice for cash games. Due to Butler’s iffy status, he’s best suited for GPPs because he could lack ownership coming off a poor game and because he mentioned recently that he’s still dealing with pain in his heel. He’s extremely risky, and if he can’t go, Michael Carter-Williams will likely start in his place.

Karl-Anthony Towns (-1.20 DPRM) is not considered an elite defender, and Robin Lopez has taken on a bigger offensive burden with Wade and Butler dealing with their issues. Lopez is a viable punt GPP center who should see 24-28 minutes tonight. Cristiano Felicio is gaining on Robin Lopez, but even so, he rarely plays over 24 minutes, which is around what he’ll need to play in order to exceed value. Jerami Grant and Rajon Rondo are both splitting the minutes evenly at point guard, making both players liabilities for our teams. It’s an exploitable matchup, but the lack of consistent minutes makes both players risky options. Grant was playing well in the absence of Butler, but he’s not an option if Butler plays. Paul Zipser is dealing with ankle issues and is considered doubtful. If Wade misses, we could see Doug McDermott or Nikola Mirotic start; both are simply GPP plays for now, but if they start, they should be considered elite plays.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves will continue their home stand today in a game in which they are favored against the Bulls. The fact that they are favored, along with the close spread and low game total, has me believing that Butler might not play. If Butler does is ruled out, Andrew Wiggins should be considered an elite play in all formats. If Butler plays, I’d consider Wiggins simply a GPP play, as Butler is a strong defender (1.10 DPRM) and Wiggins is extremely scoring dependent. Even though Wiggins has been playing more consistently over the last four games, he’s still not crushing his salary-based expectations. On a short slate, it’s always nice to have the lock in points, but we’ll want to make sure Butler is out before locking in Wiggins in all formats. With T-Wolves expected to score over their season average, Wiggins is still a viable option in GPPs. Karl-Anthony Towns is an elite cash game play and has flashed his immense upside at times this season. With Zach LaVine out of the lineup for the last three games, KAT is averaging 33.33 actual points. His rebounding is lacking some, and it could continue against a team that ranks third in rebounding differential. It looks like Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins have more upside for this slate, but they are also more expensive.

Ricky Rubio played 39 minutes against the Pelicans on Friday and has played over 34 minutes in six of his last seven starts. He’ll be a high-floor option as well against the Bulls and should be able to put up double-digit assists. Brandon Rush starts for Zach LaVine but does not make a solid fantasy impact. Lance Stephenson is also now with the team and he could pass Rush, but we can’t expect him to play more than 20 minutes. While Stephenson could crush in 20 minutes, the risk is considerable since he’s yet to really show he can make an impact. Shabazz Muhammad went back to playing poorly after his big game against the Raptors and should still be a viable low-end option off the bench. Tyus Jones was gaining on Ricky Rubio, but with Kris Dunn back in the picture, he’s not a viable option. Gorgui Dieng continues to churn out serviceable lines and is viable since power forward is lacking a ton of options.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs continue their rodeo road trip today in New York. Kawhi Leonard has been a model of consistency and has not let us down since early January; he’s averaging 48.05 DraftKings points over his last 13 starts. Leonard has missed three games in that span, and the late scratches are the only real concern for him. He should be playing tonight and on a short slate, we have to lock in the sure points. Leonard leads the team with an elite 40.4 percent usage rate and will likely be guarded by Carmelo Anthony (-1.84 DPRM) for most of the game. LaMarcus Aldridge is slightly more volatile than Leonard but has been playing well of late. He has not had the game that’ll win you a GPP but does not kill you by his performances. With the slate lacking a ton of options at power forward, he definitely should be considered at FanDuel, where you have to roster two. At DraftKings, though, you have the luxury of using DeMarcus Cousins and Karl-Anthony Towns, among others, at the position.

Dewayne Dedmon has been playing really well over his last six games, averaging 26.73 DraftKings points over that span. He did have a letdown game against Denver, but that was due to the lack of minutes. Dedmon has really seen an uptick in minutes over his last three starts and played a season-high 32 minutes against the Pistons. While we can’t expect him to grab 17 rebounds again, Dedmon should be able to make his salary-based expectations even though his salary has spiked after consecutive huge games. Tony Parker has also seen his minutes go up in three straight games and played over 31 minutes against the Pistons. Parker gets an extremely exploitable matchup against Derrick Rose, who owns a -2.48 DPRM on the season. Parker has exceeded value once in the last three games, so he’s only suitable for GPPs. With a plethora of options at the position, Parker does not seem mandatory but is relatively affordable if you need a punt option. With everyone looking towards Dedmon, David Lee should also be considered against his former team. Lee has not seen over 20 minutes in five straight games, but he’s definitely a sleeper option for the short slate. His salary is still slightly inflated even though he’s coming off the bench so this move carries a ton of risk.

New York Knicks

The Knicks finish up their five-game home stand this afternoon, and Carmelo Anthony has been playing really well over the last two games. With Kawhi Leonard rolling into town, it might be a better idea to skip on Anthony today. Kristaps Porzingis started at the 5 against the Nuggets and Brandon Jennings started at the 2, but I’d expect another change with Kyle O’Quinn likely coming back in the starting lineup. KOQ is a volatile option but has played really well in his last two games, averaging 35.45 DraftKings points in those two games. His minutes fluctuate from game to game, but with Joakim Noah ruled out, we should be able to see KOQ for 20 minutes. He’s an elite fantasy asset when given the minutes, so look to roll him out in GPPs. If I’m playing a center from this game in cash, it has to be Dedmon because it looks like he is secure for 30+ minutes.

Kristaps Porzingis struggled while playing center but is obviously still listed as a power forward and is considered a viable GPP option since the position is relatively shallow. Derrick Rose will likely be your best bet to attack the Spurs with. He was playing really well against the Nuggets and then randomly got benched. Don’t let that take away from the upside that Rose has, as he works his way back from a four-game absence. Rose had played over 30 minutes in consecutive games before the Denver fiasco and should play 30+ again today. Tony Parker owns the worst DPRM amongst the starters with -1.08 and has never been known as an elite defender in his career. Brandon Jennings exceeded salary-based expectations against the Spurs in the start but handed out 13 assists and shot 20 percent from the field; both numbers seem fluky. Sure, Jennings has had only one bad game in his last seven, but keep in mind that five of them have been in games he’s started. He’s not as explosive coming off the bench, and his value is depressed given he likely won’t exceed 30 minutes. Willy Hernangomez only saw eight minutes in his last game, and it’s tough to predict the rotations, but we’ll need KOQ to be confirmed as the starter so that Hernangomez can be used as the backup.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons travel to Toronto after losing to the Spurs on Friday night. They are hanging on to the final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs and have two more games on the road before the All-Star break. Andre Drummond played 38 minutes against the Spurs but had not played over 32 minutes in the five games prior to that. The former top-10 pick’s minutes remain volatile but he’s a strong GPP play against a team that ranks 18th in rebounding differential. Reggie Jackson has not played over 30 minutes in seven straight games and with his salary sitting at $5.7k on both major sites, presents more risk than reward. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is back to his slumping ways and can randomly break out, but on a short slate, it might be too much to ask since he’ll have to defend DeMar DeRozan for most of the afternoon. DeRozan does own a -2.32 DPRM, so he’s not the most elite defender.

Jon Leuer has played over 34 minutes in three of his last five starts but lacks elite upside at these salary levels on FD. He’s slightly more playable on DraftKings and the Raptors do rank 18th against PFs, which could lead to Leuer being able to make his salary-based expectations. Tobias Harris also played more than Marcus Morris in their previous game and could be on that treck back to fantasy relevance. Still, since he’s coming off the bench his minutes are too volatile to trust. With Reggie Jackson struggling, Ish Smith has been turning it on. Hopefully, you guys listened to me and stayed on the Ish Smith bandwagon since I recommended him last Saturday. His salary has caught up to his production now, so he’s no longer a huge upside play. Still, he’s been solid and should be considered if you need a punt guard.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors have slipped a bit and currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. DeMar DeRozan has missed seven games recently, so that has a lot to do with it. They went 3-4 in those sven games and have also lost two of the last three he’s played in. DeRozan looks like he is over his ankle issues, since he’s played 38 minutes in back-to-back games and scored 30 actual points in both those games. DeRozan should be considered a high-floor option, but since he lacks stats outside of scoring, he’ll remain a tough sell at $8.8k on FanDuel. He’s much more playable on DraftKings, where his salary is only $7.8k. Kyle Lowry has taken a back seat since DeRozan has returned but gets the best individual matchup today. With the second-highest team implied total, it could work to use both guards since they do a majority of the damage.

Dewayne Dedmon showed that Andre Drummond is not exactly an elite defender, putting Jonas Valanciunas in play. His minutes remain in flux, but his salary leaves us some nice potential upside. DeMarre Carroll has played over 30 minutes in two of his last three starts and has shot 50 percent or better in all three of those games. If we can get Carroll out there for 30+ minutes again today, he should be able to exceed value. Patrick Patterson is listed as questionable, and if he misses again, Pascal Siakam will likely start. While he’s not an elite fantasy option, it does lead to Lucas Nogueira being available off the bench.

New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans travel to Sacramento after defeating the Timberwolves on Friday night. Jrue Holiday played 38 minutes without E’Twaun Moore and Tyreke Evans in the lineup. Evans is expected back tonight, but he likely will have a minutes restriction. Holiday has scored over 50 fantasy points in two of his last three games and his salary has spiked accordingly. He’ll remain a high-floor option against the Kings tonight. Anthony Davis has scored over 60 DraftKings points in two of his last three games and the game he did not was against Utah, so it can be excused. AD scored 42 actual points against the T-Wolves and saw his salary spike $700 on DK. He still remains a high-floor option even though his salary is back over $11k on FanDuel. On a short slate, we need all the raw points we can get, and Davis can provide that. Since this game is in Sacramento and the Kings are favored, DeMarcus Cousins is a viable pivot to Davis.

Terrence Jones missed their previous game and is questionable for today’s game. Dante Cunningham started in his place and played 38 minutes but still only scored 19.3 FanDuel points. He’s not a viable option even if he starts again. Donatas Montiejunas will likely see 19 minutes if Jones is out but will need to be a lock for 22 minutes to really exceed value. Solomon Hill played 37 minutes against the T-Wolves, but with Evans expected back in the lineup, he might not be a lock for minutes. Buddy Hield also saw 21 minutes with Evans out, and Hield relied heavily on scoring for his fantasy output, so he’s simply a low-end GPP play with Evans expected back.

Sacramento Kings

DeMarcus Cousins has “struggled” in his last two starts, but that was coming off two games where he scored over 55 fantasy points. Cousins should be considered an elite option against a team that is 29th in rebounding differential and 28th in fantasy points allowed per game. He only scored 44.8 FanDuel points against them earlier this season, but that was before he was a lock to play over 35 minutes. Boogie recently played over 38 minutes against the Bulls and 40 minutes against the Warriors in overtime, so he’s a safe bet to exceed 35 minutes tonight. Ty Lawson is listed as questionable and we likely won’t find out an update regarding him before lineups lock. Darren Collison has been tearing it up in the absence of Lawson, playing over 43 minutes in their last game. Hopefully, the Kings provide us with an update after shootaround. Even if Lawson plays, Collison is still a viable option.

Matt Barnes saw a slight dip in minutes against the Hawks, but that was likely due to Ben McLemore having his one good game of the season. Barnes will remain a solid cash game play against the Pelicans tonight. McLemore has played decently over his last five games but he has scored 3.8 DratKings points in a start recently, so he’ll remain a GPP play as long as he stays in the starting lineup. Anthony Tolliver hit five three-pointers off the bench and we can’t expect that production to continue. Still, he’s provided serviceable fantasy for DraftKings and should be on your radar since he’s averaged about 31 minutes over his last five games. Kosta Koufos and Willie Cauley-Stein went back to playing 18 minutes apiece with Cousins back and both players are too risky to trust. Still, they don’t have to do much to exceed their low salary-based expectations on DraftKings.
