Rodney Hood has taken on a bigger role with Trey Burke sidelined
Rodney Hood has been on fire as of late, and he is a very intriguing option on Wednesday vs. the Pelicans. The Jazz will be playing in a pace-up game and ever since Trey Burke has been sidelined with illness Rodney Hood has been asked to take a much bigger role in the offense. He had a great game yet again last night vs. the Celtics hitting the game-tying three to send the game into overtime all while putting up 29 real-life points. In the past Hood has been very volatile, and he still is but he just has a bit of a higher floor because of the Burke illness. As long as Hood comes with a decent floor, he offers some big upside especially in a matchup with the Pelicans. He is playing a ton of minutes and we can likely project him to play 35+ minutes again tonight, and his usage will continue to increase when Burke is out.
Jeff Green is a beneficiary of the Marc Gasol injury
Marc Gasol has been ruled out for likely the year with a fractured foot, and that opens up some value options for the Grizzlies tonight. The two guys that immediately come to mind are Zach Randolph and Jeff Green as main beneficiaries of the injury. Randolph is the obvious choice, but Green’s should also be more solidified going forward and hopefully he can consistently see 30+ minutes from here on out. We have seen Jeff Green just explode for a couple of huge games over the last month as he does have quite a bit of upside if he gets rolling. He is sitting at $5,700 on DraftKings which seems fair, but he will likely see a bump in usage with Gasol out for the year. Green is an intriguing GPP option and could be considered for cash games tonight as well.
Marcus Morris will take on a heavier load with Ersan Ilyasova out
Ersan Ilyasova is out tonight vs. the Nuggets, and Aron Baynes will likely start at PF for the Pistons. Baynes is not a good basketball player, and someone will have to fill the gap that Ilyasova will leave. Where it isn’t a huge gap, Marcus Morris will get a slight bump in usage and is only $5,300 on DraftKings. The Pistons are also missing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and between the loss of these two players Morris will play minutes in the upper-thirties and has a decent floor tonight. Andre Drummond could also see a boost, but Morris is nearly $3,000 cheaper and there are other options at center in Drummond’s price range tonight. Look for Morris to log heavy minutes yet again tonight and to take on a little more of an offensive role for Detroit.
Anthony Tolliver to start for Ersan Ilyasova tonight
Anthony Tolliver will be starting tonight for Ersan Ilyasova who is battling an illness. Tolliver is an elite punt option and is expected to see around 30 minutes tonight. Tolliver had 31.5 FPs on DK when he played 30 minutes last Saturday. Tolliver can be used in both cash games and tournaments due to the minutes he is expected to be on the floor.

Ersan Ilyasova and Reggie Bullock out tonight
Ersan Ilyasova is not expected to play tonight due to an illness. Anthony Tolliver will be starting in his place and makes for an elite punt option at his near minimum salary. The Pistons only have 4 players to fill in the 2-3-4 positions tonight, meaning Stanley Johnson, Marcus Morris, and Anthony Tolliver should see a ton of minutes. Reggie Bullock is out because he broke his nose Sunday, was fitted for a mask on Monday, and had surgery this morning.

Tony Parker will not play Wednesday against the Magic. It’s unclear who will start at PG, but it’ll likely come down to Patty Mills or Ray McCallum. If Mills draws the start, he becomes a viable punt play in GPPs, but he hasn’t produced at a high level as a starter with the rest of the Spurs regulars in action. McCallum wouldn’t be a DFS option even if he draws the start. We’ll update the situation when we have more information.

Ish Smith is a fantastic option vs. Kings
PG is pretty deep tonight, but one player that stands slightly above the rest is Ish Smith vs. the Kings. The Kings have been absolutely awful at defending opposing PGs, and really just the whole team defense in general. They are 25th in DvP vs. PGs and in the second highest total of the night, the Sixers have an implied total of 106 points. The Kings are always a fun team to target in DFS and while the Sixers are a pretty bad team, so are the Kings and it’s only a 5 point spread tonight. The Sixers have been playing pretty well (relative to their recent performance) as of late and Smith is arguably the top offensive option on the team. He has a pretty high floor and a high ceiling at his price point and is a solid PG option tonight in a fast-paced matchup.
C.J. Watson active but not expected to play; Jason Smith (back) ruled out tonight
C.J. Watson is active tonight but isn’t expected to play, while PF Jason Smith has been ruled out. With Smith out, look for a combination of Channing Frye and Andrew Nicholson to fill in at PF behind Aaron Gordon. Frye will likely see more court time, but he still isn’t a viable DFS option. Gordon should see ample court time with Smith and Tobias Harris out, but he’s in a very tough spot against the Spurs who will have their starting front-court of Aldridge and Duncan back together, making him a GPP-only target.

Nik Stauskas will be in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Kings. Stauskas has been struggling recently, so he is only a tournament option tonight. Still, he is a viable punt option due to his sub-$4k salary. The Sixers rotation is a mess so he could play anywhere from 20-30 minutes tonight. With twelve games on the slate, Stauskas should be used sparingly.

Tobias Harris will miss the Magic’s final game before the All-Star break with a sore left ankle. Evan Fournier is expected to start again in his place. Fournier is averaging 32.16 FPs over his last three games but will likely be under-owned against the Spurs tonight. Fournier is a streaky player that’s hot right now and his salary has not risen to an unplayable level, making him a solid mid-range option on a twelve-game slate.

John Henson did not practice Wednesday and will not play Thursday in the Bucks final game before the ASB. With Henson out, Miles Plumlee will continue to see run when the Bucks play big, and it’s looking very much like he’s going to start again tomorrow with Monroe off the bench. Even as a starter, Plumlee didn’t put forth a strong DFS effort and isn’t likely to see enough court time to be valuable going forward. Monroe remains in play tomorrow regardless of whether or not he starts.

Matthew Dellavedova has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game with the Lakers. Mo Williams will act as the backup PG behind Kyrie Irving, while Irving himself is in a very good spot against a porous Lakers defense. Irving, Love and LeBron James are all in play, but a potential blowout keeps their floors a bit lower than usual.

Terrence Jones will not play tonight against Portland. Jones was considered doubtful for all three games after being involved in a car accident, so the Rockets will play it safe and sit him through the all star break. With Jones out, Clint Capela and Josh Smith will take on PF duties when Houston goes big, but they’ve been playing with Ariza at the 4 and have given Corey Brewer ample run at SF. Neither Capela or Smith are in play tonight.
Tim Duncan will play tonight; Tony Parker questionable
The prevailing thought was that Duncan would sit out tonight and rest through the All-Star Break but the team announced today that he would take the court in their game against the Orlando Magic. The return of Duncan and his defensive presence eliminates any potential value in playing Aaron Gordon who was in play prior to this news due to the Spurs woes of late against PF’s. It’s also a hit on the value of LaMarcus Aldridge whose usage goes from 27.6 when Duncan is not on the court with him to 24.5 with him. Duncan himself is hard to trust given that it’s his first game back and blowout potential could lead to it being a 20 minute outing for him. Tony Parker is listed as questionable – if he is unable to go, Patty Mills would become an elite value option at the PG position given the likelihood that he would play even if the game is a blow out.
