Ty Montgomery practices (limited) for Packers today
Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated WR/RB Ty Montgomery would practice in a limited fashion today and that the team would see where it goes from there. Randall Cobb also will practice in limited fashion. These two are key cogs in the Packers offense and it’s a situation we will monitor closely leading into the weekend.

Tevin Coleman and Jacob Tamme OUT for Falcons tomorrow night
The Falcons have announced that Coleman and Tamme will both miss their game tomorrow night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Devonta Freeman will get the bulk of the work against the RB position and is in play for those playing TNF slates given his workload and usage in the passing game and red zone. Austin Hooper is also a value option at the TE position stepping in for Tamme.

There was hope the Ravens veteran WR would be able to return from injury this week in a juicy match up against the subpar Steelers secondary but after missing practice today there is some doubt as to whether that will take place. Mike Wallace (would be in play regardless though) and Kamar Aiken are the biggest beneficiaries if Smith can’t play. We’ll update you throughout the week as we learn more about Smith’s playing status.

Poor Knile Davis, he wasn’t even with the Jets for a full day before they released him. Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Jets are finalizing a deal with C.J. Spiller, so they won’t have room on the roster for Davis. New York will probably use Spiller in some passing down situations, but both Matt Forte and Bilal Powell are capable receivers. He won’t have fantasy value until proven otherwise.

Jamaal Charles placed on IR
Charles suffered a setback to his knee injury a couple of weeks ago and it seems like it isn’t getting better. Kansas City decided to place him on the IR. Spencer Ware is currently in the concussion protocol. If he can’t play this weekend, Charcandrick West would get the start. Last season, West scored a touchdown in all four games he had at least 19 touches. He also had at least 122 all-purpose yards in three of those contests (he had 85 in one of them). Kansas City takes on Jacksonville in Week 9 and they’re 9-point favorites; game flow should be in West’s favor.

Davis was waived by Green Bay earlier this week after playing just two games with the team. Some speculated he could end up back with the Chiefs with Spencer Ware in concussion protocol, but Kansas City opted to sign Bishop Sankey instead. Davis will be third string behind Matt Forte and Bilal Powell, so he won’t have much fantasy value.

At this point, we’re not concerned about Jones’ status for Thursday night. He had his knee examined yesterday, but it was diagnosed as a bruise. Atlanta was probably just giving him a rest day. He has an excellent matchup Thursday night with the Buccaneers. He’ll be lined up across from the same cornerback that Amari Cooper torched in Week 8, Vernon Hargreaves.

Coach Tomlin said, “all the cards are on the table,” and that they’ll let practice decide whether Big Ben can play or not. Adam Schefter reported Saturday that Ben “always puts a premium on the Ravens game.” Most people that suffered the same injury would have no chance to play this weekend, but Ben has an insane ability to play through injuries. There are tons of question marks right now, but it would seem there’s a chance Ben is active as Landry Jones’ back up and comes in at some point in the game. We’ll have more information on the situation as the week progresses.

Heyward-Bey is now listed as a starting wide receiver for the Steelers, ahead of Markus Wheaton. Heyward-Bey caught three of his seven targets for 30 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots in Week 8. Coach Mike Tomlin was impressed enough (and/or disappointed in Wheaton’s poor performances) to permanently promote him. He won’t be worth much in fantasy until Ben Roethlisberger returns to full health, and even at that point he’ll be nothing more than a tournament flier until proven otherwise.

Harvin came out of retirement today to sign with the Bills. He won’t be ready to suit up this weekend, and Buffalo has a bye in Week 10. Harvin should get out there for their Week 11 matchup with the Bengals. The Bills are very thin at receiver, so it will interesting to see where he lands in the pecking order. We’ll find out more about his place in the depth chart after their bye week.

Hyde is expected to return this week against the Saints but practiced today in a non-contact jersey. It remains to be seen if he will actually play and it’s a situation to keep a very close eye on as the match up is a great one. The Saints are bottom five in RB Rush DVOA and Hyde has been excellent this season, especially at home.

Rodgers is not expected to be ready for this weeks game and the Buccaneers signed Mike James to their active roster in anticipation. It’ll likely be Antone Smith getting the bulk of the work in their Thursday Night game against the Falcons with some Peyton Barber mixed in.

The Eagles WR was arrested for speeding and possession of marijuana. The team is looking into the situation and has not released details on any action they will take as of this moment. We’ll update you when we learn more.

The #1 and #2 TE’s for the Dolphins are both in the concussion protocol which will leave MarQueis Gray as the top TE. It’s a decent match up against the Jets (20th in TE DVOA, 31st in Pass DVOA) for Gray and he could be a sneaky GPP play if you’re running out multiple lineups.

Patterson will be active this evening and figures to maintain his role as the Vikings #2 WR, setting him up as a viable Mon-Thurs option. He’s seen no fewer than six targets in each of his last three games, and given his big play ability, he’s well worth a GPP flier. Charles Johnson and Adam Thielen figure to act in complementary roles (Thielen should see the field more often), but neither are recommended DFS plays. Thielen is the only other receiver outside of Diggs and Patterson that should be even remotely considered in tournaments. Kyle Rudolph remains the safest target in this Minnesota passing game. On the Chicago side, they’ll have Cameron Meredith, but will be without Eddie Royal. The Bears side is best left untouched – even in small slates – given the match-up with Minnesota’s elite defense. With Jeremy Langford back, the Bears backfield is a crowded mess. Jordan Howard is still listed as the Bears starter, but expect the backfield to remain fluid, as they’ll probably go with the hot-hand approach.
