Tajae Sharpe

San Francisco 49ers
10/17/16, 6:16 PM ET

Tajae Sharpe has "taken step back"

Sharpe had a ton of hype heading into the season, but the rookie receiver has failed to deliver so far. His targets and receptions have dropped over the first six weeks after opening the year with seven receptions and 76 yards on 11 targets. Head coach Mike Mularkey said Sharpe has “taken a step back,” while implying he hasn’t been able to transfer his hard work on the practice field to actual games. Sharpe failed to make a reception on Sunday against the Browns. Kendall Wright, on the other hand, had eight receptions, 133 yards, and a touchdown. It’s very clear that quarterback Marcus Mariota currently prefers targeting Wright, Walker, and DeMarco Murray ahead of Sharpe, even though the rookie is leading the team in targets on the season. Next up for the Titans is a matchup with the Colts. Vontae Davis may give Kendall Wright a lot of attention, which could give Sharpe an opportunity to earn more looks. However, the Titans will likely take a run-first approach against Indianapolis as they were just shredded by Lamar Miller for 149 rushing yards. Sharpe won’t a viable fantasy option in Week 7.

Lamar Miller

New Orleans Saints
10/17/16, 6:20 PM ET

Lamar Miller expected to be even more involved in Texans offense

Miller has averaged 20.8 carries and 2.8 receptions per game, yet head coach Bill O’Brien said he wants to get Miller more touches. With Brock Osweiler completing less than 60% of his throws while struggling to hit wide open receivers as close as 8 yards away, it would make sense for O’Brien to have him throw to Miller on short passes. Against the Colts Sunday night, Miller had a season-high 29 yards through the air on three receptions, throwing in a touchdown for good measure. He also added 149 yards and a touchdown running the ball. Next week the Texans take on the Broncos, a team that’s struggled against the run, and receiving running backs in particular. Osweiler will likely struggle to throw the ball down the field against their elite secondary, which could lead to more targets for Miller out of the backfield. Miller remains affordable across the industry, and is guaranteed a big workload. If the Texans can stay on the field against the Broncos he should have another big game.

Marcus Peters expected to play in Week 7

Peters missed some playing time Sunday against the Raiders after suffering a shoulder stinger. He also went through concussion testing, although he passed and was cleared to play. The Chiefs are expecting Peters to suit up against the Saints in Week 7, which is bad news for the Saints’ offense. Peters is a top-15 corner on the season, earning an 82.7 grade from Pro Football Focus. Drew Brees and the Saints have very poor home-away splits and the Chiefs have the 6th-ranked passing defense in terms of DVOA, according to Football Outsiders. Currently, the Chiefs are 6.5-point favorites, which leaves the Saints with an implied team total of 21.75 points. It may be a week to fade New Orleans’ offense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

LeSean McCoy's knee is "totally fine"

McCoy had a scare Sunday when he briefly exited the game against the 49ers after twisting his knee. It looked pretty bad on first sight, but he was cleared for the second half. He continued to shred the 49ers defense when he got back in the game, ending up with 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 19 carries. Coach Rex Ryan told reporters today that McCoy’s knee is “totally fine.” Buffalo visits Miami in Week 7, which is another good matchup for Shady; the Dolphins have allowed 147 rushing yards per game, the second-most in the league.

Eddie Lacy

Seattle Seahawks
10/17/16, 4:53 PM ET

Eddie Lacy, Randall Cobb, and Davante Adams wouldn't have practiced Monday if Packers held one

Lacy is dealing with an ankle injury, which was clearly causing him pain Sunday against the Cowboys. It’s unclear whether it became worse from playing. Cobb is still hurting from a hit he took in Week 5 against the Giants. Adams suffered a concussion against the Cowboys. Unfortunately for the Packers, they play on Thursday night against the Bears, leaving the three players with a short week of rest. The Packers didn’t practice today, but were required to release an injury report; all three were listed as “did not participate.” We’ll get a better sense of their status tomorrow when the Packers are expected to hold their heaviest practice of the week. It would seem as though Eddie Lacy will have to suit up as his back up, James Starks, underwent surgery on his knee and is expected to miss several weeks. Receiver Ty Montgomery will likely pick up running back snaps again this week with Lacy hobbled up. Montgomery lead the team in targets Sunday with 12, picking up several receptions out of the backfield. He’s a very intriguing value option this week, especially if Adams can’t play.

Terrell Suggs expected to miss Week 7

Suggs has a torn biceps tendon. It’s a serious injury, but he’s played through it in the past. Baltimore has a bye in Week 8, so he’ll have at least two weeks to rest. With Suggs in the lineup the Ravens have had the best rush defense in the league in terms of the DVOA metric by Football Outsiders and yards allowed per game. They visit the Jets in Week 7. Suggs’ absence will be a slight upgrade for Matt Forte, but it’s still a bad spot for the Jets’ running game.

Cody Kessler

New England Patriots

Cody Kessler expected to start for Browns in Week 7

Josh McCown is still recovering from a broken collarbone, but it appears Kessler would start even if McCown was healthy. Hue Jackson has been pleased with Kessler’s performance over the past four weeks. The rookie quarterback has a 93.8 passer rating, which is 14th in the NFL. He’s completing 65.6% of his passes and has only thrown one interception. This past weekend he threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns against a tough Tennessee defense. In Week 7, he’ll face a Cincinnati defense that’s allowed 14 passing touchdowns, the third-most in the NFL.

Jamaal Charles

Andy Reid says Jamaal Charles isn't ready for full workload

Charles was out-touched by Spencer Ware 26 to 11 on Sunday against the Raiders. After the game, Coach Andy Reid said Charles isn’t ready to carry it every down. As expected, the Chiefs are remaining cautious, easing Charles back into the lineup. Fortunately for them, they can do so because Ware has been effective as the lead back. Against the Raiders, Ware ran for 131 yards and a touchdown. Next week they face a poor Saints defense that’s allowed the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL (11). Look for the Chiefs to rely on their running game once again. The split between Ware and Charles should be a little closer to even in Week 7, but Ware will likely get the majority of touches.

Arian Foster

Arian Foster still not 100%

Foster was active for the first time since injuring his hamstring in Week 2. Although most expected Foster to start and be the lead back, Jay Ajayi out-touched him 26 to 5. Ajayi made the most of his opportunities and went off for 207 total yards and two touchdowns. Head coach Adam Gase told reporters today that Foster hasn’t fully recovered yet. Based on this news and Ajayi’s performance, it seems like Ajayi will get another start on Sunday against the Bills. Buffalo held Carlos Hyde to 52 yards this past weekend, but as a team the 49ers ran for 133 yards. Buffalo has allowed six touchdowns on the ground, tied for 7th-most in the league.

Ben Roethlisberger undergoes surgery, may be back for Week 9

Roethlisberger tore his meniscus Sunday in the second quarter, causing him to miss the remainder of the first half. He returned to the field and played through the injury, but following an MRI he opted for surgery. The procedure was not a full repair, meaning the timetable for his return could be minimal. It’s possible he comes back following Pittsburgh’s bye in Week 8. However, nothing is official as of now. We should have a better sense of the recovery timetable in a few days. In the meantime, Landry Jones will start for the Steelers, which is a downgrade for their skill players as the offense will not be as proficient with Jones under center.

Coming off the bye, it was expected that Doug Martin would return to action this week but he did not practice today. That’s a bit concerning and something we’ll need to keep an eye on as the week progresses. If Martin can’t go, Jacquizz Rodgers would be in for another big workload after a huge outing against the Panthers a couple weeks ago.

T.Y. Hilton

T.Y. Hilton active against the Texans

Hilton was dealing with a hip injury that kept him limited in practice during the week. He showed improvement each day and is fully ready to go against the Texans tonight. He’s had double-digit targets every game so far. With Moncrief still sidelined that trend should continue tonight. Hilton will have a nice plus matchup when he’s in the slot, which is a little over half of his snaps. Houston slot corner Kareem Jackson has earned a below-average 57.9 grade from Pro Football Focus while Hilton has an 83.6, one of the highest marks in the league.
