Sam Shields placed on IR
Shields has been in the concussion protocol since colliding with T.J. Yeldon in the season opener. It was the fifth consussion of Shields’ football career, and it’s put his season in jeopardy. Without him, the Packers have struggled against the pass, ranking 19th in pass DVOA, per Football Outsiders. Green Bay plays Chicago on Thursday. Cameron Meredith is expected to lead the Bears in receiving again, but Green Bay ranks 31st against WR1s, which is a good sign for Alshon Jeffery. However, in terms of individual matchups, Meredith is expected to go up against Damarious Randall (40.1 grade from PFF) while Jefferey will see a lot of Ladarius Gunter (81.6 from PFF). Randall missed practice Tueday with a groin injury, if he can’t go, Meredith’s matchup would become even better. Jeffery has yet to have a game with more than five receptions, and hasn’t scored a touchdown this season.
As reported by: Rob DemovskyS Jordan Poyer headed to IR
Poyer took a massive blindside hit on a punt return from running back Antonio Andrews Sunday that caused him to be taken to the hospital. He was later diagnosed with a lacerated kidney, which landed Poyer on the injured reserve. It’s another blow to an already poor defense. Cleveland visits Cincinnati this Sunday and is expected to struggle to contain the Bengals’ offense; currently, the Browns are 10-point underdogs. Pending his health, this is shaping up for a sneaky Jeremy Hill game. Giovani Bernard severely out-snapped Hill last week, but that’s expected as Bernard out-snaps Hill every game the Bengals lose or pass a lot. If the Bengals establish an early lead, they’ll likely run Hill a ton, especially in the red zone. Hill has been dealing with a shoulder injury the past couple of weeks, which needs to be monitored. If we get word that he’s back at 100%, he’ll be a nice value play on DraftKings at $4,000.
As reported by: Mary Kay Cabot Other tagged players: Jeremy HillEddie Royal misses practice Tuesday
Royal has a toe injury that will likely keep him out of Thursday’s game. He hasn’t practice in two weeks due to a calf injury, but managed to play in each game. However, this appears to be a different story, especially since the Bears have a short week. His absence is a boost to Cameron Meredith and Zach Miller. Both players should see an uptick in targets against a subpar secondary.
As reported by: Brad Biggs Other tagged players: Cameron Meredith, Zach MillerJaron Brown (knee) is day-to-day
Brown took a hit late in Monday’s game from Jets’ safety Marcus Gilchrist that injured his knee. It looked pretty bad on first sight, but fortunately, head coach Bruce Arians said the injury was not as serious as it appeared. Arians also said Brown may need to wear a knee brace going forward. Brown is considered day-to-day for now, there is no word yet on his playing status for Week 7.
As reported by: Josh WeinfussBears' CBs Tracy Porter and Bryce Callahan miss practice Tuesday
This is a bad sign on a short week. If Porter (knee) and Callahan (hamstring) can’t play Thursday, the Bears would be without their top five cornerbacks. Callahan has earned an 81.7 grade from Pro Football Focus this season. If he doesn’t play it’s a big upgrade to Jordy Nelson as they were expected to line up against each other quite a bit. If both sit, the Bears will simply be depleted in their secondary, providing an upgrade to Green Bay’s passing game as a whole.
As reported by: Adam Jahns Other tagged players: Randall Cobb, Chicago Bears, Aaron RodgersDavante Adams misses practice again Tuesday
Adams suffered a concussion Sunday against the Cowboys. With the Packers on a short week, Adam’s status for Thursday’s game is becoming more doubtful than questionable. Jeff Janis will step up as the number three receiver for Green Bay if Adams sits out, but isn’t a strong play. Look for Aaron Rodgers to heavily target Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb.
As reported by: Michael Cohen Other tagged players: Jeff JanisWill Fuller feeling good; expects to play against Denver
Fuller told the media today that he is feeling good and is ready to play this week against Denver on Monday Night Football. Expect him to go in what will be as tough a match up as he’ll have all season. He can be avoided in most formats (is viable on Primetime and two-game slates).
As reported by: Aaron Wilson on TwitterEddie Lacy unlikely to play
Updating our previous report, sources have told media that Lacy is unlikely to play this week. It’s unclear how the Packers will handle their RB situation this week but we’ll update you as soon as we know more.
As reported by: Adam Schefter on TwitterMark Ingram and Matt Jones two cheaper RB options to target on DK this week
Mark Ingram has struggled to find the end zone this season, thanks in large part to vultures from John Kuhn and the Saints passing attack. However, the production and opportunities (no fewer than 18 touches in the last three games) have been there and with a match up against the Chiefs (who rank 27th in RB Rush DVOA) this week there is an opportunity to take advantage of his too cheap price tag on DraftKings of $5,400. Matt Jones is in a similar spot and is even cheaper at $4,200. Coming off a big game against the Eagles (16 rushes for 135 yards and a TD), Jones has seen his role expand since getting just 8 touches in the opener. He’s had 89 touches the last 5 games including 16 or more in three straight weeks. Facing a putrid Lions defense that is 28th in RB Rush DVOA, Jones makes for an excellent value option in both cash games and GPP’s this week. Another potential target is Isaiah Crowell at $4,000 but he’s struggled mightily (under two yards per carry) the last two weeks and has a tougher match up against the Bengals (middle of the pack in RB Rush DVOA) – the upside is there though and he’s in play as a GPP option.
Other tagged players: Matt Jones, Isaiah CrowellEmmanuel Sanders practices with sore hip
Sanders left the Broncos game last week with a hip injury but practiced today. He should be fine for their MNF game with the Texans who are top 10 in pass DVOA. With the Broncos struggles at QB, Sanders can be avoided for the most part although he is in play in Primetime slates.
As reported by: Mike Klis on TwitterEddie Lacy will not practice; status for Thursday uncertain
Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated today that his starting RB is very sore and would not practice. With the Packers on a short week, his availability is certainly in doubt. The Packers traded for Chiefs RB Knile Davis this morning and he’ll get thrown into the mix right away with James Starks already out. Davis probably isn’t a viable DFS option this week unless we receive clarity from the Packers on his usage. We’ll keep you updated on Lacy heading into Thursday Night Football.
As reported by: Mike Garafolo on Twitter Other tagged players: Knile DavisVincent Jackson suffered knee injury last game; did not practice Monday
Apparently, the Tampa Bay WR injured his knee before the team had their bye week when they played the Carolina Panthers. He did not practice yesterday and his status for this week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers is in doubt. Adam Humphries has already stepped up for the team this season and would figure to benefit even more with Jackson out. We’ll keep you updated on VJax’s status as the week progresses.
As reported by: Rick Stroud on Twitter Other tagged players: Adam HumphriesDavid Harris, Austin Seferian-Jenkins inactive for NYJ; Revis officially active
Harris being inactive ends his streak at 121 consecutive games played. He’ll join Austin Seferian-Jenkins on the bench this evening, while CB Darrelle Revis will be active. The Jets TE situation is well worth avoiding. The sledding should get at least a little easier for David Johnson with Harris on the shelf.
As reported by: Brian Costello Other tagged players: Austin Seferian-JenkinsEddie Royal did not practice Monday, Zach Miller limited
Similar to the Packers, the Bears didn’t actually hold a practice today, but were required to release an injury report. Had they practiced today, Royal would have missed it due a toe injury and Miller would have been limited as he’s dealing with a rib injury. They have a short week as they prepare to take on the Bears on Thursday night. We’re expecting Miller to play, while Royal is more questionable. Royal hasn’t been practicing the past couple of weeks, but still played in every game during that stretch. However, this toe injury is new, he had previously been rehabbing a calf injury. We’ll have more information tomorrow.
As reported by: ESPN Other tagged players: Zach MillerMichael Bennett expected to play Week 7
Bennett took a helmet to his knee Sunday against the Falcons, which caused him to exit the game. He had an MRI on Monday, and fortunately it was “clean,” according to head coach Pete Carroll. Bennett should be all set to play the Cardinals and their star running back David Johnson in Week 7.
