LVR RB Peyton Barber (turf toe) expected to be out a "few weeks"

Peyton Barber, who was diagnosed with turf toe, is expected to be out a “few weeks”. While he is out Kenyan Drake should serve as the primary backup behind Josh Jacobs and it remains to be seen if the Raiders will add any other running back to the active roster (two candidates are Jalen Richard (designated for return from IR) and Trey Ragas (practice squad). Both Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake are likely to see expanded roles this Sunday against the Chicago Bears but their playing time split cuts their value.

MIA WR Will Fuller (finger) to be placed on IR

Will Fuller, who broke his finger last Sunday, will be placed on the IR meaning he will be forced to miss at least the next three games for the Dolphins. In his absence expect Albert Wilson to take over the WR3 role behind DeVante Parker and Jaylen Waddle with Preston Williams also slated to see more opportunities due to the departure of Jakeem Grant. The Dolphins draw an interesting matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday in which they should be playing from behind so expect Waddle and Parker to see a significant amount of targets against a shaky pass defense.

DEN QB Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) will not practice Wednesday

Teddy Bridgewater will not practice Wednesday but Coach Fangio expressed optimism that Bridgewater could return before Friday allowing him to still start this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bridgewater is currently in the concussion protocol and must clear all steps before being allowed to suit up, if he were unable to meet the requirements Drew Lock (who is getting the first team reps in Bridgewater’s absence) would start. Lock would be a step down from Teddy and as we have seen in the past is an unreliable decision maker with the football. All pass catchers would take a minor hit and it is likely the Broncos might go with a more run centric approach.

Texans release WR Anthony Miller

The Houston Texans will release Anthony Miller after giving up a 5th and a 7th round pick to acquire him this offseason. The Texans signed Danny Amendola a few weeks ago who is set to return from injury and should take Miller’s spot in the slot while the Texans have also signed Davion Davis off the Browns’ practice squad earlier this week. Miller will finish his Texans’ career with 5 catches on 11 targets for 23 yards and a touchdown in 2 games. Brandin Cooks remains the only semi-reliable offensive weapon for the Texans and this is strictly due to volume in a subpar offense.

Saints to sign RB Devine Ozigbo off Jaguars' practice squad

The New Orleans Saints plan to sign RB Devine Ozigbo off the Jaguars’ practice squad pending a physical after the injury to Tony Jones Jr. was confirmed earlier in the day (expected to miss 3-4 weeks). Ozigbo was originally signed by the Saints in 2019 so the organization is familiar with him and we would think Ozigbo would be able to pick up the offense quickly having already been in the system. This seems to be a short term solution as the Saints worked out 4 other running backs earlier in the day and will likely sign one or more of them to the practice squad in hopes of them being ready for next week. Ozigbo and Dwayne Washington should back up Alvin Kamara though neither should be DFS relevant. It is a possibility that Kamara sees a few more snaps without a trusted backup and can be considered a slightly stronger play this week against the Washington Football Team.

SFO K Robbie Gould (groin) to be placed on IR

As expected with the signing of Joey Slye, Robbie Gould will be placed on IR by the 49ers and will miss at least the next three weeks with a groin injury that he suffered in warmups before last Sunday’s game. Joey Slye will handle the kicking duties for San Francisco’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

Tony Jones

Arizona Cardinals
10/05/21, 5:10 PM ET

NOS RB Tony Jones Jr. (ankle) expected to be out 3-4 weeks

Tony Jones Jr. is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury that he suffered last Sunday. Jones Jr. has served as the backup for Alvin Kamara and his absence will be felt by the Saints. With Jones out, Dwayne Washington will likely serve as the RB2 with Alex Armah also potentially getting more work though neither should be considered DFS relevant. It is also worth noting that the Saints worked out four running backs today and will likely sign one to their practice squad but it is unlikely any would be ready to play by this weekend. It’s possible that Alvin Kamara could see even a larger workload than what he is normally accustomed to and could be a stronger play this week when the Saints are set to take on the Washington Football Team.

Saints sign K Cody Parkey

The Saints have signed kicker Cody Parkey after releasing Aldrick Rosas earlier in the day. Parkey will likely handle kicking duties until Wil Lutz is able to return (expected to be after their Week 6 bye).

Tennessee Titans
10/05/21, 3:43 PM ET

49ers sign K Joey Slye

Joey Slye has been signed by the 49ers and will likely handle the kicking duties for San Francisco as long as Robbie Gould is out. Gould was injured during warmups last game and the 49ers were forced to play without a kicker.

Bears waive WR Nsimba Webster

10/05/21, 1:20 PM ET

KCC WR Josh Gordon set to make debut Sunday

Josh Gordon has officially been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster and is set to debut Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills. Gordon who was signed last week needed to prove that his conditioning was up to par and learn the playbook which it seems he was able to do rather quickly. There are still a lot of unknowns surrounding Gordon mainly where he will slot in on the Chiefs offense. Right now we expect Gordon to battle for the number 3 receiver spot with Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle behind Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman. This will be an important situation to monitor ahead of Sunday night’s showdown slate in case anymore information regarding Gordon’s expected role comes to light.

Jakeem Grant

10/05/21, 10:42 AM ET

Dolphins trade WR Jakeem Grant to Bears

The Dolphins have traded Jakeem Grant to the Chicago Bears for a 2023 6th round pick. The Dolphins tried to trade Grant earlier this summer to Carolina but that deal fell through due to contract terms. Chicago will most likely use Grant as their primary returner and he will also slot in as their number 4 or 5 receiver. The Dolphins are expected to use 2021 1st round pick Jaylen Waddle to handle their return duties. Grant will likely remain DFS irrelevant barring any injuries to the Bears receiving corps.

David Montgomery

10/05/21, 10:46 AM ET

CHI RB David Montgomery expected to miss 4-5 weeks with knee sprain

It was reported that David Montgomery is expected to miss 4-5 weeks with a knee sprain for the Bears after suffering the injury last Sunday in their win against the Detroit Lions. Montgomery was having a great game rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns prior to the injury. With Montgomery out the Bears will turn to Damien Williams (who has a bruised quad but is expected to be available) as their lead back with rookie Khalil Herbert likely to serve as his backup. In relief of Montgomery last week, Williams rushed 8 times for 55 yards with a touchdown and caught both of his targets to add 15 yards receiving. Williams should serve as a good value option this week due to expected volume when the Bears take on the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday.
