Discount winger draws strong matchup at home
Anthony Mantha has not scored a goal in nearly a month, but if there were ever a time, it is tonight against an Ottawa Senators team which continues to skate backwards on the road. Mantha is back on the top line with Dylan Larkin who continues to shine for the otherwise awful Red Wings. Mantha is averaging nearly three shots on goal per game and figures to be involved against Ottawa’s league-worst defense. Mantha is viable in all formats at his nice price tag.
This centre faces a goalie that nobody has even heard of tonight.
Once again, Elias Pettersson has a fantastic matchup tonight as the Anaheim Ducks are rolling out a goalie by the name of Kevin Boyle as John Gibson heads to the IR. He’s centering Brock Boeser and Josh Leivo, a line that also remains in tact on the top power play unit. This gives an already solid line even more upside as they have full-game correlation and fantastic upside. The Anaheim Ducks have a 46.43 CF% over the last month which ranks 28th overall. While the Canucks haven’t been much better as their 47.31 CF% ranks 24th, it’s still a matchup worth targeting.

Sidney Crosby has had quite the revolving door of wingers throughout his career, but Jake Guentzel has been a mainstay for the last couple seasons — for the most part. Joining the two on the Pittsburgh Penguins top line is Bryan Rust as the Pens host the Edmonton Oilers. This game should be high scoring, so it makes sense to stack both sides of this game if possible. With Evgeni Malkin on the shelf, Guentzel had been playing on the top power play unit so a two-man mini-stack with Crosby and Guentzel makes the most sense with Malkin now suspended tonight.

I’m sure Connor McDavid loves playing with offensive dynamo’s like Zack Kassian pause for laughter. In all honestly, this is a stack that you probably want to just roll with a two-pack going with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The pair have been dynamic any time they are playing together and with both of them playing on the top power play unit, they have full-game correlation. Matt Murray has had a roller coaster of a season and you never know which Murray is going to show up in a given game, but this game should be high-scoring with both teams falling in the bottom 12 in possession.

Maple Leafs fans weren’t thrilled when Josh Leivo was dealt to the Canucks earlier this season. While Leivo had just six points in 27 games in Toronto, he has been much better in a significant role for Vancouver. He has four points in his last three games, and is skating along side Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, which leads to plenty of opportunities. He faces a woeful Ducks team tonight, who will likely be starting Chad Johnson in net (no, not Ochocinco).

With Sidney Crosby being a top priority spend tonight with Connor McDavid not too far behind him, finding cheap wingers is a necessity. Enter Nick Bjugstad who took five shots on goal last time out in the Penguins 3-1 win against the streaking Philadelphia Flyers. While Bjugstad won’t benefit from Evgeni Malkin (suspended) distributing on the second line, Edmonton’s defensive lapses put all the Pittsburgh Penguins in play. Nick will also center the team’s second power play unit that should get their crack at Edmonton’s woeful penalty kill, especially if the Oilers are able to stop the Penguins’ first wave. Save some salary with Nick.
Veteran blue liner sees top power play minutes
The Vancouver Canucks trail only the Colorado Avalanche and Washington Capitals in times short-handed this season. While Cam Fowler is nothing to write home about, his price is cheap and the power play matchup is worthy given the Canucks’ propensity to take penalties. Fowler has flashed some upside this season, including a once-in-a-lifetime hat trick back in November. It’s not pretty, but a two game slate and team limits dictate such routes.
Second line center has come out firing in February
Boone Jenner has been influential in the Blue Jackets’ resurgence to start this month as Columbus has gone 3-0 with all victories coming on the road. During this stretch, Jenner has a goal and four assists, and he has logged 20-plus minutes in consecutive games. With the Washington Capitals’ generous defense coming to town on the tail end of a back-to-back, after allowing four goals to the timid Kings, Columbus is in a prime spot to produce. Of course, the team’s top line in Panarin – Dubois – Atkinson are the one to target, but the second line should not be slept on as they’ve shown a lot of chemistry lately. Jenner is a cheap way to save at center.
New acquisition seeing sufficient ice time with new team
While a matchup with a defensively-sound Stars’ team is not the most targetable, it is hard to look past Florida’s very cheap top line with the ever-underrated Aleksander Barkov. Since coming over from the Penguins, Brassard is averaging nearly three more minutes per game. His price is still just $3,500 on DraftKings which can really open salary elsewhere. Florida has scored three or more goals in six of their last eight games and Dallas has been vulnerable on the road where they have just 10 wins in 27 contests.
Surging sophomore Bruin looks to bury Blackhawks
With David Pastrnak ruled out for some time, Heinen is expected to get work on the team’s top power play. Heinen has already benefited from skating on the top line recently with sizzling Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, a line that should have no problems picking apart the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks may be winning games, but they’re a disastrous team defensively. Heinen is still cheap across the industry and makes the Bruins’ top line quite affordable.
This centre has been dominant this season.
Sebastian Aho is an RFA this upcoming summer and he’s going to get paid. He’s been dominant this season with 24 goals and 63 points in 56 games. He has improved in goals, assists and points in each of the first three seasons of his career (this season’s numbers are paced out) and is showing further signs of improvement. Since January 1st, Aho has 9 goals and 24 points in those 18 games and should be able to continue that tonight. Aho will be playing with Justin Williams and Nino Niederreiter as the Carolina Hurricanes visit the Ottawa Senators tonight. Carolina has been dominant possession-wise with a 65.7 CF/60 over the last month which ranks third and league-best 57.63 CF%. Additionally, the Sens have allowed a league-worst 68.52 CA/60 over the last month and are in for a world of pain tonight.

With Artemi Panarin continuing to say he will be testing the UFA market this summer, it is coming more and more like a reality that Columbus is going to move him before the trade deadline. And, good for the Blue Jackets, he is heating up. Panarin has 9 goals and 20 points in his last 15 games as the top line for the Blue Jackets has been playing great. Panarin is playing with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Cam Atkinson and these three also play on the top power play unit together which gives this line elite upside. They are taking on the Washington Capitals who are on the tail-end of a back to back. Braden Holtby is expected to be in net for the Capitals and he’s struggled this season with a 3.07 GAA and .906 SV%. Additionally, over their last month the Caps have allowed a disastrous 65.37 CA/60 which bodes well for the Columbus offence.
Other tagged players: Pierre-Luc Dubois, Cam AtkinsonThis aging winger has had a rejuvenated season.
Zach Parise has 22 goals and 48 points in 55 games which is very good considering he hasn’t even broken 55 points per 82 games over the last three seasons. His current season pace is 72 points which would be his highest since 2009-2010, which is pretty crazy. Zach Parise just hasn’t been the same player he had been since coming to Minnesota, but this season he’s getting a bit of his juice back. He’s playing on the top line tonight with Mikael Granlund and Charlie Coyle as the Minnesota Wild host the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers will be throwing Anthony Stolarz in net and he’s struggled with a 3.26 GAA and .903 SV% which is pretty terrible. The Flyers have struggled recently despite their record, they have allowed a 66.4 CA/60 which is the second-worst mark over the last month as well as a 44.95 CF% which is also the second-worst over that time frame.
Other tagged players: Mikael Granlund, Charlie CoyleThis sensational rookie is a lock for the Calder.
Barring a catastrophic injury, Elias Pettersson is a stone cold lock to win the Calder Trophy at this point. He leads all rookies with 25 goals — 11 more than Andreas Johnsson and Andrei Svechnikov who are tied for second. Additionally, he leads all rookies with 50 points — 19 more than the second plays Rasmus Dahlin. Even more impressive is that he has missed 11 games with an injury. He’s playing with Brock Boeser and Josh Leivo tonight as the Vancouver Canucks host the San Jose Sharks. Now, Vancouver hasn’t been playing great lately with just a 46.81 CF% over the last month, but the Sharks goaltending as struggled. Martin Jones has just a 2.90 GAA and a .899 SV% which could help offset the struggles of the Canucks. Even if they don’t win, Vancouver could score a few goals and I expect this line to lead the way.
Other tagged players: Brock Boeser, Josh LeivoDespite his teams recent struggles, this sniper continues to score.
Although he is on a four-game goalless dought, Ovechkin did have 7 in his previous 8 so it may not even be fair to call it a slump quite yet. Anyway, the Washington Capitals have struggled mightily as of late with a 3-5-2 record over their last 10 games. However, a home game against the Los Angeles Kings is a great spot to try and get back on the scoresheet. The Kings have struggled with just a 46.68 CF% over the last month and although the Capitals haven’t been great either with a 48.42 CF%, they have so much more talent to overcome this slump and tonight is the perfect spot to bounce back.
