This centre has a sneaky good matchup tonight.
Everybody is talking about the Philadelphia Flyers because they are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games. That’s great and all, but they have had a league-worst 43.08 CF% in that stretch. With the talk about the Flyers lately, the Penguins may have slightly lower ownership than they should especially with the play of Carter Hart. However, Sidney Crosby and linemates Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust are going to be targets here tonight. With the Flyers also allowing 67.96 CA/60 over those 10 games which is the second-worst in the NHL in that time. They’re winning despite their horrific possession numbers and the Penguins should take advantage of that tonight.

Though Joonas Donskoi has not been involved in the goal-scoring lately, he still has three assists over his last two games. Around the New Year we saw Donskoi is no slouch for scoring either as he had a stretch of eight games where he potted seven goals. With the red-hot Tomas Hertl and Evander Kane on his line, Donskoi has another prime chance to produce tonight against a Vancouver team figures to struggle defensively against San Jose’s depth. San Jose has won five in a row, scoring 23 goals in the process. Donskoi and his linemates make for a terrific target in tournaments, despite the elevated price tag of Evander Kane who continues to pepper shots on goal.
Young blue liner making most of opportunity
Marcus Pettersson logged a season-high 22:57 of ice time last time out against the Lightning as he has moved up to skate with Kris Letang at even-strength. During the morning skate today, Pettersson was getting some run with the top power play unit so it is possible he could be on the loaded power play unit which should like their chances against the Flyers, a matchup that always seems to produce an abundance of goals. Pettersson is just $2,800 on DraftKings, making him a worthy option if not paying up for two defensemen.
Back to the top line for gritty forward
Washington has shaken up their top line, opting to move Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson to a line with Alex Ovechkin. Wilson’s price across the industry is far too cheap for this role as he was flat-out dominant in his limited time with Ovechkin earlier this season. There is always a certain risk of Tom Wilson spending too much time in the box, but the risk is outweighed by the matchup and sub-$5,000 price tag. The Kings are allowing the third-most scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5v5 among all teams over their last 10 games.
Montreal top liner has been on fire over past week
Jonathan Drouin was suggested the other night against the Ducks and he erupted for three assists. In his last game, Drouin had a jaw-dropping nine shots on goal in route to a two goal, two assist performance against Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets. For some reason, Drouin’s price has not moved on DraftKings as he checks in at just $4,900. While Drouin is likely to see more attention tonight after his big week, it is hard to argue against his price as he has really elevated his game in February (3G, 6A in four games). A matchup with the Maple Leafs is exploitable.
Return to top line for breakout winger?
We have not seen the morning skate for Vegas yet, but it is possible Reilly Smith will be back on the top line as fill-in Zykov has not been getting much ice time. Regardless, Reilly Smith skates on the team’s top power play unit and his price is down to an attractive $4,200 on DraftKings. With a cloud hanging over Panarin and Bobrovsky’s head, the Blue Jackets are ripe for the picking. And as we know, Vegas plays their best hockey on home ice. As a team, the Vegas Golden Knights are averaging a Western-Conference best 32.33 scoring chances per 60 minutes on home ice. It’s a nice time to buy low on Reilly Smith.
Lightning looking for a jolt of energy
Tampa Bay has dropped two consecutive games, including a shutout last time out at home against the Blues. That marks the fifth consecutive game the Lightning have failed to score more than three goals, and altogether, outside of their six goal eruption agianst the Sharks, the Lightning have scored the following goal totals: 1, 2, 2, 2, 0, 3, 2, 0. Jon Cooper has decided to move Palat and Stamkos with Kucherov, immediately sending Palat’s value surging as he will play with two studs at even-strength and on the power play. He is viable in all formats.
Stamkos To Rise To The Occasion
With Evgeni Malkin out of the Pittsburgh line-up the Penguins are going to have to find a way to keep things close. That may not be as easy as it seems as the team has scored just four goals over their last three games while giving up 10 goals that has resulted into a 0-2-1 record. Their penalty kill hasn’t been the best over recent weeks as they have surrendered seven power play goals over the last 18 times the team has taken a penalty. While Nikita Kucherov is the clear cut play on the Tampa side of things it has been Steven Stamkos who has led the team with seven points over the last six games. Stamkos has also seen 25 of his 61 points come with the extra attacker which makes him a prime one-off candidate for this evenings slate.

The Florida Panthers have given up at least four goals in six of their last seven road games so not taking a look at the Washington Capitals could be a costly mistake this evening. Alexander Ovechkin is the household name as he should be so our eyes must wander over to the very affordable T.J. Oshie. Nicklas Backstrom is the center on the top line but it has been Oshie who has collected a team high 10 points over the last three weeks. Oshie has struggled up until now as he has only played in 43 games while being credited with just 31 points. Get him while he’s hot.

If you are Connor McDavid you don’t need to look at home and away match ups as he always finds a way to get on the score board. This cannot be said for his line mate in Leon Draisaitl as he has 19 goals and 19 assists in the team’s first 27 home games. Compare that to the 13 goals and 15 assists he has chalked up in the same amount of games away from home and you can see why he should be looked at this evening. Yes, the Oilers are playing the division leading San Jose Sharks but that doesn’t mean that Edmonton can’t get on the board. San Jose has given up seven power play goals in their last six games while the Oilers have scored seven of their own power play goals over their last seven games. This is where Draisaitl will excel as he has 12 goals and 11 assists when the team has the extra attacker.

The Boston Bruins will look to take down a Los Angeles King team that not only took Philadelphia to a shoot-out on Thursday night, but handed them their first loss over the last nine games. This will not be the case this afternoon however as the Bruins will look to go about attacking the Kings a different way this afternoon. David Pastrnak is being looked to lead the team from the second line this afternoon as he will find David Krejci and Peter Cehlarik as his line mates. This actually makes things easier in the DFS world as now Pastrnak and his 31 goals can be used as a one-off here instead of trying to cram the high-priced Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron onto your roster.

Offence is up across the league as teams continue to score goals at a much higher pace than recent memory. Sidney Crosby is very quietly on pace for his first 100 point season since 2013-2014, after four straight years in which he did not break 90 points. He has spent most of the season beside Jake Guentzel, and the two will be joined by newly acquired Nick Bjugstad on the top line tonight. This line should be able to have success tonight as the Penguins visit the Florida Panthers who will be rolling with Roberto Luongo in net. Bobby Lu is starting to show his age this season with a pretty brutal 3.17 goals against average and an .895 save percentage which is definitely a good reason to stack Penguins.

The Vancouver Canucks switched up their lines this morning and Elias Pettersson will be between Brock Boeser and Nikolay Goldobin. Since returning from his most recent injury, Pettersson has continued where he left off. He has five goals and eight points in seven games and has continued his absurd shooting percentage. This entire line is also slated to be on the top power play unit so going with the full line stack that has full-game correlation and elite upside is the way to go against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The top line in Colorado is still the most productive line from an offensive standpoint despite a bit of a slowdown. Nathan MacKinnon leads the team in goals with 27 and is second on the team in points with 72 behind Mikko Rantanen’s 74. The Avalanche visit the Washington Capitals, a team that has struggled with possession over the last four weeks. Since January 10th, Washington has allowed a 62.17 CA/60 which is the third-worst mark in the NHL. On the Avs side of things, they put up a league-best 66.51 CF/60 and an overall possession of 54.74 CF%, which ranks third. This is quite the lopsided battle in favour of Colorado which is encouraging for a team that has scored just 7 goals in their last 4 games.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau is just $3,000 on DraftKings and is fresh off a multi-point effort against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. With the disastrous Ducks’ defense in town, Pageau could easily pay off his salary again. The Ducks are allowing the most scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 and have allowed 24 goals over their last four games. Pageau is fine as a one off play in tournaments as he has logged 16-plus minutes in three consecutive games. He has shown some scoring touch throughout his career and the matchup does not get much better against Anaheim. Ottawa is averaging the 10th-most goals per game (3.26 GF/G) on home ice.
