New addition takes on old team
Nick Bjugstad was skating on the top line as the right winger with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel at practice yesterday, and while we have yet to receive confirmation that practice line will stick, Bjugstad makes for a strong play against his old team. Bjugstad is averaging over 15 minutes of ice time in three games with the Penguins, and he has taken nine shots on goal. With Evgeni Malkin still out, Pittsburgh figures to look to Bjugstad more in offensive situations. Florida’s top line of Barkov and Dadonov has really struggled defensively and they figure to be locked into the matchup against Pittsburgh’s top line.
This goalie has dominated his opponent twice already this season
Anton Khudobin has Nashville’s number this season as in two starts he has allowed just a goal, and both of those starts came in Nashville. Altogether, Khudobin has stopped 87 of the 88 shots sent his way from the Predators in 2019. While asking Khudobin to repeat this feat again tonight seems unlikely, it is not out of the question. The Predators and Stars check in with the lowest total of the night. Additionally, Nashville sports the National Hockey League’s worst power play (12.9%). Khudobin could pay off in a big way again in tournaments.
Bad goalie worth a shot on short slate
Alexandar Georgiev is not a good goalie but here we are on a two game slate, and he checks in as the cheapest netminder. Georgiev draws a sneaky good matchup against a Boston team playing on the tail end of a back to back after a grinder of a game against the Islanders last night. Additionally, the Bruins are averaging a paltry 2.24 goals per game on the road which is the worst mark in the Eastern Conference. With how hot the New York Rangers’ top line has been and them seeing the bulk of the ice time against the Bruins’ top line, the Bruins could be neutered here, especially since they have no depth scoring. Georgiev is a scary option but one that could pay off if the Bruins’ top line is contained.
Pivot to this Toronto defenseman in tournaments
With Morgan Rielly and Jake Muzzin certain to see a bulk of the traffic on defense, Jake Gardiner emerges as a nice contrarian option for this two game slate. Jake Muzzin erupted last time out for three points while Morgan Rielly was quiet. Of course, these two are far superior defensemen to Gardiner, but Jake’s price is down to $3,500 on DraftKings. In a game where every Leaf is capable of scoring, saving some money and taking a lower-owned option like Gardiner could pay off.
One bad month has skewed this wingers season totals.
The St. Louis Blues are third in the NHL over the last month with a 54.83 CF%. This is not what one would expect from a team that has struggled to pick up wins this season. However, they’ve been playing pretty well but their goaltending has struggled mightily. The top line consists of Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn and Ryan O’Reilly. O’Reilly easily leads the team in points with 52 in 53 games with Tarasenko a distant second with just 35 points. It’s a down season for Tarasenko, but it was mostly from a horrific December in which he put up just 2 points in 13 games. Outside of that, he has 33 points in 36 games which is definitely solid.

Max Domi is thriving in Montreal after being traded for Alex Galchenyuk in the summer. He leads the Habs in points with 47 in 53 games and is second on the team in goals with 17. He has been playing a lot with fellow newcomer Tomas Tatar, who is tied for second on the team in points with 39 and is third in goals with 16. These two are playing alongside Paul Byron as the Canadiens host the Anaheim Ducks, a team that is on the tail-end of a back to back after getting stomped by the Toronto Maple Leafs last night 6-1.

Despite playing in just 30 games, Viktor Arvidsson leads the Nashville Predators with 21 goals. Linemate Filip Forsberg has also been limited to just 37 games this season but he is second on the team with 18 goals in 37 games. They’ll be centered by team-leading Ryan Johansen who has 44 points. The Predators are stacking their top line as this has been a line with a ton of success in the past. The trio play on the top power play unit together which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside against an Arizona Coyotes team that is on the tail-end of a back to back.

Though the Ducks’ defense can make anyone look good, it is hard to ignore Jack Roslovic at punt pricing given his talent. He does not see top minutes, but that has not stopped him from collecting five goals in his last three outings. At just $2,800 on DraftKings, it doesn’t make much sense to pass on Roslovic in cash games given the savings and upside he has flashed recently. There are a number of studs worth grabbing tonight, and punting a spot with Roslovic makes all of that possible. The Jets and Sharks will play at a nice pace providing Roslovic with more opportunity to produce once again.
Top draft pick has consecutive multi-point games
The Devils’ season may be over, but Nico Hischier has been lights out over the last week, tallying three goals, an assist and five shots on goal. On home ice, Hischier has been particularly productive, picking up 20 points (9G, 11A) in 22 games. While the Kings’ overall defensive numbers this season do not scream “target against”, they are surrendering the fifth-most scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (28.81 SCA/60) over their last 10 games. Furthermore, Jeff Carter left the game early last night and Jake Muzzin is in Toronto. Hischier is a nice mid-tier, low-owned selection at center in tournaments.
Favorable spot for the home team against leaky Ducks' defense
The Quebec native is fresh off his first multi-point game in more than a month, and on home ice Drouin has been efficient, tallying 24 points (10G, 14A) in 28 games. With no John Gibson to bail out the atrocious Anaheim defense, Montreal could be in for a big game. Of course the problem with the Canadiens is shared ice time and shared power play time, but Drouin’s asking price is not excessive. Anaheim has allowed 20 goals in their last three games, so Montreal makes sense in tournaments if you can nail down the right pieces.
Defenseman Starting to Produce
Kevin Shatternkirk has been a huge disappointment this year for the Rangers, registering just 12 points in 43 games to start the year. While his production lately isn’t remarkable, it’s a noted improvement over his year-to-date averages. He’s seeing time on the number one power play, a unit clicking on all cylinders. The matchup is also favorable with the Kings coming to town, one of the worst teams in the NHL.
First Line Offers Value
The Dallas Stars have mixed up their lines since the All-Star break and have rolled out a “first line” of Radek Faksa, Jamie Benn, and Blake Comeau. While Comeau leaves much to be desired, Faksa is a solid player and Benn has proven to be a borderline elite producer in the past. Benn also gets time on the number one power play unit with the likes of Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov. I prefer to forego Comeau and go with a partial stack of Benn and Faksa, which allows you to pair with another expensive line.

The New York Rangers have stacked their top line as of late, with the few players worth stacking a line with. Mika Zibanejad, Mats Zuccarello and Chris Kreider make up the top line for the Rangers as they host the Los Angeles Kings. Additionally, this line plays together on the top power play unit. This gives the entire line full-game correlation and elite upside. Over the last month, the Kings have allowed 62.8 CA/60 which is bottom 5 in the NHL which is encouraging for the Rangers.

With 6 goals and 15 points in his last 14 games, Sean Couturier has been putting up solid offensive numbers as of late. Additionally, his 41 shots in these 14 games lead the team. He’ll be playing on the Philadelphia Flyers second line with Jakub Voracek and Oskar Lindblom, and is on the second power play unit. Voracek plays on the top PP unit, but Lindblom is on the second unit with Couturier which makes them an interesting two-man mini-stack. However, the most upside is with stacking this entire line together.

Matthews has 3 goals in his last 4 games (just 1 goal in his previous 13), and is averaging 4 shots per game over this recent scoring surge. With that said, it seems that Matthews has come out of his scoring slump. He is back playing with Patrick Marleau and Kasperi Kapanen, a line that he had plenty of success with earlier in the season, so we hope he can continue that success tonight. Unfortunately, neither Marleau nor Kapanen are on the top power play unit with Matthews which is discouraging. So this is a line that needs to thrive at even strength, or using Matthews as a one-off play is also reasonable.
