Jake Muzzin

Toronto Maple Leafs

New addition looks to make a splash against familiar foe

Jake Muzzin has not done much offensively yet for the Leafs, but there is no better time to produce against a Ducks team surrendering far too many scoring chances for their own good. Not only will Muzzin see power play time on the second unit, he will also skate on the top pairing with Morgan Rielly who is in the midst of a fantastic 2018-19 campaign. If you cannot quite get to Rielly tonight, Muzzin is a great option to save some money given the Ducks’ woes at even-strength.

Darcy Kuemper

Bottom of the barrel goalie frees up tremendous salary

There is not much to like about Darcy Kuemper, but he is minimum-priced across the industry. Here’s a shocker: Darcy Kuemper has not lost in regulation since December 30th. In January he was 6-0-2 and allowed three or less goals in every single start. Dallas is no longer the offensive juggernaut they were in the past, especially while Benn is off the top line. Arizona is a tough team that never seems to get blown out and they sport the National Hockey League’s best penalty kill (87.1%). Kuemper is a terrific target in tournaments.

Oskar Lindblom

San Jose Sharks
2/04/19, 11:17 AM ET

Surging Flyers' forward viable in all formats

Though his price has come up from the discount we have seen lately, Lindblom is still a nice source of salary relief. The second line winger has picked up at least a point in five of his last six games, amassing three goals and three assists in the process. Skating on a line with Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier helps his value tremendously despite not seeing the top power play minutes. The young Swede averaged more than two shots on goal per game in January and draws a nice matchup against a poor-traveling Vancouver team.

Mathieu Perreault

Winnipeg Jets
2/02/19, 12:42 PM ET

Dirt-cheap winger could see increased role

Jets’ forward Jack Roslovic will be a game-time call tonight which could thrust Mathieu Perreault in a more prominent role on the team’s second line. After his 39 points in 70 games last season, Mathieu has been a big disappointment, but the Ducks are giving up far too many scoring chances for their own good. Keep an eye out during warmups and use late swap to your advantage with this punt as both Mathieu Perreault and Jack Roslovic check in at $2,700 on DraftKings and $3,400/$3,400 on FanDuel, respectively. Roslovic himself has two goals in his last three contests and would be the preferred option if he is good to go.

Craig Anderson

Making a case for the goalie on the worst team

While the Senators continue to allow goals for fun, they have not been as bad on home ice (3.23 GA/G vs. 4.32 GA/G on road). Adding to Anderson’s potential value is the fact Dylan Larkin left in overtime last night and his status is up in the air at the time of writing this. If he misses, it would be a big loss for Detroit as Larkin has been electric for them this season. Last time these two teams met, Anderson sparkled, stopping 34 of 35 shots faced for a 2-1 win. With his affordable tag on DraftKings ($7,800) and an even more attractive $7,500 price tag on FanDuel, Anderson makes for a worthwhile tournament target, particularly if one has interest in the Senators’ offense and wants some correlation.

Jason Zucker

Buffalo Sabres
2/02/19, 12:17 PM ET

Disappointing stretch for Wild winger

Jason Zucker has been quiet recently, picking up just a point over his last six contests, but he should like his chances against the generous Chicago defense. In three meetings against the Blackhawks this season, Zucker has 13 shots on goal in route to a pair of goals and an assist. Zucker and his linemates figure to be locked into a high-event matchup with Chicago’s top line which has been surrendering chances left and right. Zucker’s price makes him a primary cash game play and an under-the-radar tournament play given his recent woes.

Auston Matthews

Toronto Maple Leafs

Great matchup on home ice for this high scoring line

Auston Matthews always draws a good matchup on home ice. He saw almost 60% of his ice time against Washington’s second line, and 20% against their third line in their last home game. With Mitchell Marner and Patrick Marleau on his wings, you get 2/3 of the team’s top power-play unit. With one of the highest projected goal totals on the slate (3.54), look for Matthews and company to stay hot on home ice. I prefer to use power-play quarterback Morgan Rielly in place on Marleau in this stack, however Marleau provides great value and brings the overall price of the complete line stack down.

Mark Scheifele

Multi-goal potential for this line stack

Mark Scheifele and the Winnipeg Jets will host the Anaheim Ducks whom are giving up the second most high danger scoring chances in the league (12.87 HDCA/60). Scheifele and line-mates Blake Wheeler, and Kyle Connor all correlate on the team’s top power-play unit along with defenseman Jacob Trouba. This talented line stack has multi-goal upside against defensively challenged Anaheim team tonight.

Nikita Kucherov

Tampa Bay Lightning
2/02/19, 11:20 AM ET

Fantasic power-play matchup for this line stack

Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point, and Tyler Johnson draw a fantastic matchup tonight at Madison Square Garden. The New York Rangers have been shorthanded 172 times in 50 games so far this season. That is good for the third most times shorthanded in the NHL. Tampa Bay is leading the league in power-play conversion percentage at 29.6% and New York has killed only 76.7% of their penalties. Look for Tampa Bay’s power play to have plenty of opportunities tonight and convert a couple of them. Adding power-play quarterback Victor Hedman is ideal in this matchup, and with salary restrictions it’s a sure way to be a bit more contrarian.

Barrie to 'Assist' in Tonight's Win This Evening

This will pick up right where we left off in the Rantanen write-up as Tyson Barrie makes for a decent blue line play this evening. While their lines have been switched up a bit one thing is for sure and that is that Barrie, Landeskog, Rantanen and MacKinnon will represent 80% of the team’s top power play unit. This is important because the Avalanche have scored nine power play goals in their last 10 games. Colorado knows how to draw penalties as they have drawn five more than any team in the league during the month of January. Barrie has been on seven of those nine power play goals while posting 39 points in the 46 games he has suited up for.

Mikko Rantanen

Colorado Avalanche
2/02/19, 10:20 AM ET

Rantanen to Succeed Despite Line Up Shuffle

The Colorado Avalanche appears to be using this game against the Vancouver Canucks to try a few things out. The least of which is splitting up Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon who have reached grabbed over 70 points apiece so far this season. While MacKinnon is busy centering Alexander Kerfoot and Colin Wilson on the top line I’d look for Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog to do some damage in this one. Landeskog leads the team with 29 goals to his credit so it only makes sense to use him with Rantanen who leads the team with 51 assists so for this season.

Ryan O'Reilly

O'Reilly to Feast on Confused Blue Jackets

Ryan O’Reilly has found the score sheet in 13 of the Blues last 15 games while leading the team with 18 goals and 32 assists in the team’s first 49 games. The good news for O’Reilly is he and Vladimir Tarasenko will now have Brayden Schenn with them on the team’s top line thanks to the injury to David Perron. St Louis faces a Columbus team that has given up 15 goals over their last four games which have all resulted into losses.

Kyle Connor

Winnipeg Jets
2/02/19, 10:17 AM ET

Winnipeg's Top Line Gets Their Work In

The injury to Nikolaj Ehlers has done wonders for Kyle Connor as he has grabbed nine goals and four assists over the last 12 games. Not that he wasn’t a good player before moving up to the top line with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler as he now has 22 goals to go along with 19 assists in the 51 games he has suited up for. A lot of folks are wondering what is wrong with Patrik Laine and the answer could very simply be that Connor was the straw that stirred the drink on the team’s second line. The Jets are an impressive 19-6-2 on home ice which makes Connor a very lucrative play on home ice this evening.

Johnny Gaudreau

Columbus Blue Jackets
2/01/19, 2:18 PM ET

This winger has been on a tear since December 1st.

Since December 1st, Johnny Gaudreau is tied for the league lead in points with 44 with Nikita Kucherov and in goals with 19 with Steven Stamkos. His line has been elite with Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm. Tonight, the Calgary Flames take on an Alex Ovechkin-less Washington Capitals as he serves his one game suspension for skipping the All Star game. Furthermore, this line stays in tact on the top power play unit which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside.

Auston Matthews

Toronto Maple Leafs
2/01/19, 2:14 PM ET

This centre is looking to get out of his pre-All Star game slump.

With just two goals and eight points in his 10 games prior to the All Star break, Auston Matthews is looking to get back on the scoresheet with some regularity. He’s going to once again be playing with Mitch Marner and Patrick Marleau on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and as their first game after the break they should be plenty rested. They are in Detroit to take on the Red Wings which is a solid matchup for them. Going with a Matthews/Marner mini-stack is an elite play as they also play on the top power play unit together and having the two best Leafs in a stack with full-game correlation is ideal.
