Cheap winger could fly under radar given the number of options tonight
A disappointing effort from St. Louis after racing out to a 2-0 lead last night could keep ownership in check for the Blues’ top line tonight given the number of strong line stacks available tonight. Schenn checks in under $5,000 on DraftKings, and while he is priced more appropriately on FanDuel ($5,900), St. Louis’ top line still makes for a strong stack. Last night New Jersey was torched by Detroit’s top line, who went off for the second consecutive night. Schenn has been explosive alongside O’Reilly and Tarasenko and with the ever-generous Cory Schneider set to man the crease for New Jersey, the Blues are in a prime bounceback spot.
Top line in great spot on home ice
Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Kassian will host the Anaheim ducks tonight. The ducks are another team whom struggled mightily this season and we have been able to pick on a lot. Draisaitl and McDavid have both eclipsed the 100-point mark on the season, which shows us their extreme upside. Anaheim has given up 12.43 HDCA/60 in March. Oscar Klefbom is the power-play defenseman you want in this stack.

Ottawa has been a team we’ve picked on all season, (with decent results) and tonight is no different. Ottawa will host a dangerous Toronto team. While all the Toronto skaters are playable, I will be focusing on the top line of John Tavares, Mitchell Marner, and Zach Hyman. Ottawa has given up 13.94 HDCA in the month of March. That is the second highest in the NHL and the most of all teams playing tonight. I will be prioritizing defenseman Morgan Rielly over Hyman tonight, as I like the Leaf’s power-play matchup. However, Hyman is a fine play for salary relief.

Oft-injured Ben Bishop departed Wednesday’s game, forcing Anton Khudobin into action. Khudobin came in and made 15 saves on 16 shots in a tough matchup against Calgary. The next night, Khudobin made 40 saves on 42 shots as the Stars strengthened their playoff position with a 3-2 win in the shootout against the Oilers. Vancouver’s offense has really sputtered after the All-Star Break as they are averaging the third-fewest goals per game (2.33 GF/G). Khudobin is far too cheap even in a road matchup. Dallas continues to get strong goaltending and either Khudobin ($7,300 on DraftKings) or Bishop ($7,500 on DraftKings if healthy) provides a nice discount. They routinely see shots and have a good chance to pick up the victory.

It seems like the New York Islanders have disappointed us all season long. I can’t overlook them in a matchup here against a Buffalo team that has been in a complete tailspin. Buffalo has given up 3.11 GA/60 in the month of March. Mathew Barzal, Jordan Eberle, and Anders Lee are my go to stack in this game. The Islanders have generated 13.07 HDCF/60 in the month of March, which is very encouraging. Devon Toews is a great salary saver on defense and playing on the top power-play unit.

We have a crowded slate for defensemen tonight. One of them who stands out at a reasonable price is Ryan Pulock at $4,700 on DraftKings and $4,300 on FanDuel. Ryan Pulock ended an eight game scoring drought last time out as he erupted for three assists with seven shots on goal in the Islanders’ come-from-behind victory in Winnipeg. Pulock continues to provide a reasonable floor with his shot-making and shot-blocking ability. At sub-$5,000 prices, Pulock emerges as a great option in all formats.
Look For This Winger to Find the Score Sheet Tonight
The Blues let one slip away last night as they saw a 2-0 lead in Madison Square Garden turn into a 4-2 loss. That was the first time that St Louis had allowed more than three goals over the last 11 games and with their opponent being the New Jersey Devils this evening, I’d expect that not to happen again tonight. The Blues have scored seven of their last 32 goals when the have had the extra attacker so look for that to come into play here tonight. Vladimir Tarasenko will give you the best chance to get on the board as he has grabbed a team leading 30 goals while also leading the team with 252 shots on goal as well. The Devils are getting healthier but that hasn’t stopped them from giving up goals as their 4-0 loss in Detroit last night is certainly proof of that.
Look For More Goals In Tampa This Evening
These two teams have met twice over the past few weeks that had seen Tampa take both games by a cumulative score of 11-7. The myth is always that if two good teams go head-to-head then it will be a low scoring game. While that may be the case in some instances it is not in this one as both sides have plenty of firepower. Alexander Ovechkin and Nikita Kucherov are the first players to jump off of the page as both have had phenomenal years in terms of production. You could pair Nicklas Backstrom with Ovechkin or Brayden Point with Kucherov if you want a lot of exposure to this game. If you just want to garb a one-off then Steven Stamkos is your guys as he skates on the team’s second line and joins the top line when the team has the man advantage. Over the past nine games Stamkos has lit the lamp seven times to go along with another seven assists. All that has done is add to his seasonal totals of 52 assists and a team leading 41 goals. This would give you more than enough of a reason to put Stamkos in your line-up this evening.

When starting to look for core plays a lot of DFS players go straight to the top of the list, and that’s fine. Sometimes though we have to look a bit deeper in terms of what is going on with a certain player in terms of playing time, opponent and recent production. This kind of research would lead you to a few different plays that could easily produce on a particular night. For Reilly Smith, tonight is that particular night. Vegas comes into this one fresh off a 3-2 loss to Minnesota on home ice last night so the jaunt over to San Jose shouldn’t be too big of a deal. In the midst of a seven game winless streak, the Sharks have given up a whopping 37 goals over the past 10 games while the Golden Knights have duplicated that number but only on the offensive side. This is where Smith comes in as he has lit the lamp six times to go along with six assists over the last three weeks which ranks him 13th in the league over that time frame. Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson will skate with him on the top line against a very leaky San Jose defense.

While they started off a bit slow, the Vegas Golden Knights have blown through their teams’ “sophomore slump”. Over the last month specifically, they have the 4th-best CF% with a 55.25 rate and they’ve also produced plenty of chances with a 63.86 CF/60 which also ranks 4th. The Golden Knights top line hasn’t been as dominant as they were last season, but Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith have been better since March 1st. They are all at a point-per-game or better over the last month as they get into their best form leading into the playoffs. This line plays on the top power play unit in their entirety which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside.

The new Calgary Flames lines have been out there for a game or two now, but this one is definitely one worth looking at. Matthew Tkachuk is having an impressive season, but it is often overlooked because of how good Johnny Gaudreau has been and offseason acquisition Elias Lindholm has also had impressive numbers. Well, Tkachuk is second on the team in goals with 34 and sits fourth in points with 76. The Flames have been elite as of late, with a league-best 58.35 CF% and a 68.1 CF/60 which ranks second best in the NHL over the last month. Tkachuk will be playing with Mikael Backlund and Michael Frolik again as “The 3 M’s” are back together.

The St. Louis Blues have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the last couple months. They have a premium matchup tonight against the struggling New York Rangers. Over the last month, the Rangers have had a 46.78 CF% which ranks 26th and have given up a 60.62 CA/60 which is the sixth-most. Remember when Vladimir Tarasenko was having a terrible season? Well since January 1st, Tank has put up an impressive 18 goals and 38 points in 33 games and playing alongside Ryan O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn on the Blues top line is an elite spot tonight. This line plays on the top power play unit in their entirety which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside.

Philipp Grubauer is simply far too cheap, checking in at just $7,600 on DraftKings. His price on FanDuel ($8,400) is more than reasonable given his strong play of late. Grubauer has been sensational after the All-Star break, going 7-3-1 with a 1.64 GAA and .949 SV%. During this stretch, Grubauer has recorded three shutouts. Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes have scored two or fewer goals in six consecutive games, scoring just 7 goals in the process. Grubauer is viable in all formats.
Three-game point streak for cheap Colorado top liner
Arizona is not the most exploitable matchup as they have the best penalty kill rate in the National Hockey League (85.6%). However, Alexander Kerfoot is making the most of his increased ice time. Kerfoot has picked up a point in three consecutive games while logging 19-plus minutes of ice time. Overall, Kerfoot has a goal and three assists as Colorado has put together a late surge even in the absence of two of their best players, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. Meanwhile, Arizona has struggled mightily lately, particularly on offense. Kerfoot still is under $4,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel despite his increased workload.
Veteran Calgary winger worth a shot in tournaments
The Flames’ lines are still in a blender, though that could change, which makes this slate more interesting overall. James Neal has been skating on the third line with Sean Monahan and got power play time with Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano last time out. Given the Anaheim Ducks’ problems staying out of the box (second-most times short-handed), and the Calgary Flames’ ability to draw penalties (third-most times with a power play opportunity), James Neal makes for an intriguing source of salary relief, particularly on DraftKings where he is just $2,800. Neal has been a huge bust this season, but tonight is as good of a spot as he will get.
