Jeff Skinner

Edmonton Oilers
3/28/19, 12:52 PM ET

This winger is struggling but has a great matchup to bounce back.

Remember all of the early-season Jeff Skinner hype? Well that has certainly died off as he has just one goal in 13 March games. He also has just one assist to go with that, so it has been quite the slump for Skinner. He’s still firing the puck a bunch with 46 shots in the process, but he really needs to get things going if he wants to get paid the numbers that were being floated back in December. If there is a matchup to turn things around it is a home game against the lowly Detroit Red Wings. Detroit, over the last month, have a league-worst 43.01 CF% and have given up a league-worst 65.99 CA/60. This could help Skinner get back on track. Now, his linemates aren’t great in Casey Mittelstadt and Jason Pominville which likely keeps him at low ownership as well as the entire line at low ownership. Skinner may be a better one-off play, as his linemates don’t play on the same PP unit as him.

Jonathan Huberdeau

Calgary Flames
3/28/19, 12:49 PM ET

This winger has a premium matchup tonight.

Another player on fire since March 1st is Jonathan Huberdeau as he has picked up 19 points in 14 games including 7 goals. The Florida Panthers have an elite matchup as they take on the Ottawa Senators — albeit on the road — in what could be a fast-paced, high-scoring game. Over the last month, Ottawa has an abysmal 45.17 CF% which ranks 28th in the NHL and they have given up 64.44 CA/60 which is the third-most over that time. While Florida hasn’t been much better in terms of possession, they’ve averaged 3.7 goals per game over their last 10 including 6 games with 4-plus goals. This line stack is an elite play with Huberdeau joined by Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov at both even strength and on the top power play unit giving them full-game correlation and elite upside.

Connor McDavid

Edmonton Oilers
3/28/19, 12:47 PM ET

This center is averaging over 2 points per game in the month of March.

Connor McDavid has been a man on a mission in the month of March. He has picked up a modest 6 goals but an insane 25 points in just 12 games. He has also picked up two short-handed points and a game winning goal along the way. Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers take on the Dallas Stars who are on the tail-end of a back to back. And while Dallas has been solid recently from a possession standpoint, the back to back is certainly an advantage to an Oilers team that has scored at least three goals in 7 of their last 8 games including an 8-spot against the Los Angeles Kings last game. He makes for an easy two-man mini-stack with Leon Draisaitl as they play on the same even strength and power play lines together.

Tim Heed

San Jose Sharks
3/28/19, 12:37 PM ET

Punt defenseman worth a shot in game ripe for goals

Tim Heed logs limited minutes, but he should not need much time to produce against a Chicago Blackhawks’ team which continues to give up a heavy amount of scoring chances. Heed sees power play time with Erik Karlsson still on the shelf. At just $3,200 on DraftKings, Heed makes for a nice compliment to Brent Burns or a filler in the utility spot as he should take a couple shots on goal and perhaps find the scoresheet again as the San Jose Sharks have the highest implied total on the slate once again.

Curtis McElhinney

Tampa Bay Lightning
3/28/19, 12:14 PM ET

Goalie is way too cheap even in tough matchup

Curtis McElhinney is just $6,700 on DraftKings in what is arguably a tough matchup with the Washington Capitals. However, Curtis has been solid on home ice, going 11-5-1 with a 2.42 GAA and .917 SV%. Although Carolina just lost 4-1 to Washington in D.C., Carolina has been strong in Raleigh while the Capitals have not found the same level of success on the road as they have on home ice. With a modest total (6) and Carolina checking as a decent-sized favorite, taking a chance on Curtis in tournaments at such a cheap price is viable to load up elsewhere.

Kevin Labanc

Columbus Blue Jackets
3/28/19, 10:26 AM ET

Power play weapon is averaging nearly a point per game after the All-Star break

Kevin Labanc has been a beast despite logging under 15 minutes of ice time per game. After the All-Star break, Labanc has recorded 21 points (9G, 12A) in 24 games including six points with the man-advantage. As a fixture on the Sharks’ top power play unit, Labanc always seems to be involved when the Sharks are on the power play. Labanc’s price across the industry makes him a worthwhile one off or one-two punch with Brent Burns, the top option on tonight’s slate.

Sean Couturier

Philadelphia Flyers
3/27/19, 1:57 PM ET

This center saw his role change last season from a shutdown one to an offensive one

Both sides of the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Philadelphia Flyers game are in play tonight. With this being a four-game slate and the horrible defensive efforts by both the Flyers and Leafs over the last month, this could be a high-scoring game. The Leafs have given up a 60.89 CA/60 over the last month which is the 7th most over the last month. Additionally, over the Leafs last 8 games they have given up a whopping 35 goals — an average of 4.38 goals against per game — which bodes well for the Flyers tonight. The top line of Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux and Oskar Lindblom is a solid play tonight. Couturier has really changed the tone of his career over the last two seasons. After having career highs of 15 goals and 39 points throughout his first 6 seasons in the NHL, Couturier has posted back to back 30-plus goal and 70-plus point campaigns. He has really brought his offensive game out in the NHL as he has started to be used in a much more offensive role rather than strictly a shutdown centre.

John Tavares

Toronto Maple Leafs
3/27/19, 1:57 PM ET

This center is chasing down a personal milestone

These guys are probably going to be pretty popular after their last game in which John Tavares scored four goals and is now chasing down his first 50-goal season. However, Tavares, Mitch Marner and Zach Hyman are in another fantastic spot tonight. While they are on the road, they take on a Philadelphia Flyers team that not only has nothing to play for, but they have been pretty brutal over the last month. They have allowed a 64.97 CA/60 which is the second-worst mark in the NHL. The Leafs on the other hand have been dominant at generating chances with a league-best 68.37 CF/60. This should be a high-paced, back and forth game that the Leafs tend to play and with Tavares and Marner playing on the same power play unit they make for an intriguing two-man mini-stack as well.

Patrice Bergeron

Boston Bruins
3/27/19, 1:57 PM ET

This center has regained his offensive game over the last couple seasons

This is arguably the best line in hockey both from a fantasy standpoint and a real-life standpoint. All three are elite offensive players and they are among the best defensive lines in the NHL as well. Patrice Bergeron almost had his career derailed from concussions in the early goings, but he has since come back and has 4 30-goal seasons over his last 6 including the last two in which he did so in less than 70 games. It feels like he has been in the league forever as he entered the NHL as a 19 year old rookie, but at just 33 Bergeron has definitely seen an offensive resurgence to his career. Playing with Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak certainly helps the matter and given that the trio are on the top power play unit together, they have full-game correlation and elite upside against a New York Rangers team that sits 26th in the NHL in points and has given up the 9th most goals against.

Other tagged players: Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak

Ivan Provorov

Columbus Blue Jackets
3/27/19, 9:04 AM ET

Slumping Flyers' blue liner worth a shot

Ivan Provorov is scoreless in eight consecutive games, but in a matchup against Toronto, a team which bleeds points to defensemen, Provorov is worth a shot as his price is hovering around $4,000. Still logging heavy minutes (25-plus minutes), Provorov seems good for a couple blocked shots and possibly finding the scoresheet in this high-event matchup with the Maple Leafs who are allowing 3.26 goals per game since the All-Star break.

Jake DeBrusk

Vancouver Canucks
3/27/19, 8:58 AM ET

Second half of the season has been kind to Boston Bruin

With the New York Rangers’ penalty kill being non-existent on the road (76.9% – second-worst in the National Hockey League), targeting Boston and particularly their top power play unit is the way to go. DeBrusk checks in at a reasonable $4,500 on DraftKings if you cannot quite get the three-headed monster into your lineups. After a subpar 18 points in 41 games before the All-Star break, DeBrusk has matched that point total in just 20 games after the break (9G, 9A). He is a fantastic play in this mouth-watering matchup.

Alexander Kerfoot

Utah Hockey Club
3/27/19, 8:54 AM ET

Mikko Rantanen has been ruled out again tonight

With Mikko Rantanen ruled out again, Alexander Kerfoot should see a heavy dosage of minutes once again as the Avalanche are still without Gabriel Landeskog as well. Kerfoot logged a season-high of over 21 minutes of ice time last time out as he potted a power play goal. In the game prior to that, Kerfoot had a pair of assists. Kerfoot is now up to 37 points (12G, 25A) in 72 games despite limited ice time. Kerfoot is $3,400 on FanDuel and $3,700 on DraftKings which puts him in the conversation for all formats given the workload.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi

Carolina Hurricanes
3/26/19, 12:53 PM ET

This 18-year-old has had a respectable rookie season.

In just 13:51 minutes of ice-time per game, Jesperi Kotkaniemi has managed to put up 11 goals and 33 points in his rookie season. He’s centering the “third” line tonight with Jonathan Drouin and Joel Armia flanking him. This line is surprisingly intriguing as they’ve played together the same power play unit as well for the last few games. Giving a line that is this cheap full-game correlation in a solid matchup is very interesting. The Montreal Canadiens host the Florida Panthers who allowed 7 goals last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. A back-to-back for the Panthers in which there was a goalie switch — albeit very early into the game — games for an interesting matchup.

Leon Draisaitl

Edmonton Oilers
3/26/19, 12:49 PM ET

This winger is back on the top line in a solid matchup.

Leon Draisaitl continues to yo-yo himself from the first line to the second line and back up to the first line. Tonight, he’s playing with Connor McDavid and Zack Kassian on the Edmonton Oilers top line as they host the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings have been pretty average as of late from a possession standpoint, but they are on the tail-end of a back to back which should put them a bit behind the eight-ball. McDavid (2nd) and Draisaitl (4th) are both among the top-5 in points now and sit 7th and 3rd in goals respectively. The duo are arguably the most dynamic two-some in the NHL and could be in for a big night in this matchup.

Alex DeBrincat

Detroit Red Wings
3/26/19, 12:33 PM ET

This second-year player blew through any sort of "softmore slump".

Alex DeBrincat was a standout rookie last year posting a 28-goal, 52-point rookie campaign. He followed that up this year with an absolutely dominant 38-goal, 71-point sophomore season — and counting. He is now sitting atop the the Chicago Blackhawks depth chart on the first line with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. This is a team that over the last month has a 62.54 CF/60 which is the 6th-best in the NHL. They visit the Arizona Coyotes, a team on the opposite end as they’ve allowed a 60.34 CA/60 over the same time period which ranks as the 9th-worst.
