vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.308 (Rank: 18) — Strikeout Rate: 25.8% (Rank: 30)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.317 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 23.8% (Rank: 27)
Pitchers per PA: 4.01 (Rank: 1)
Analysis: Cueto has pitched well through his elbow injury. In his last two starts since the injury, he has given up a combined one earned run while striking out 13 batters over 13 innings of work. He has a high strikeout rate of 24.8% over the last two seasons and he draws a plus matchup against the Cubs, who are ranked 30th in strikeout rate (25.8%) against right-handed pitching this season. The Cubs do take the most pitches per plate appearance, but with the wind blowing in at Wrigley, Cueto is a terrific pitching option in the “All Day” slate of games.
Pitcher Rating:85.2
Jason Hammel : FD: $9,400 — DK: $9,000

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.352 (Rank: 2) — Strikeout Rate: 17.2% (Rank: 2)
Pitchers per PA: 3.71 (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Hammel has been sharp over the last month of play, posting a 2.49 SIERA with a very high strikeout rate of 29.5%. He is an elite strikeout pitcher with a decent matchup against a Reds’ offense that is ranked 15th in wOBA against right-handed pitching. Hammel pitches well at home and the wind is blowing in today, which is always a big help at Wrigley Field. He’s actually the small favorite in this game, although neither pitcher is expected to have much run support.
Pitcher Rating:81.1

Cincinnati
NO RECOMMENDED PLAYS – Since the start of 2014, Jason Hammel has held left and right-handed hitters under a .300 wOBA. It also doesn’t help that the wind is blowing in from left field at 12-15 MPH.
Chicago Cubs
NO RECOMMENDED PLAYS – Since the start of 2014, Johnny Cueto has held left and right-handed hitters under a .270 wOBA. He is one of the best pitchers in baseball and this game has the second-lowest run total on the board.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.299 (Rank: 17) — Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 17)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 16)
Analysis: Correia will be making his first start of the season. He finished his 2014 campaign with a 4.73 SIERA, a strikeout rate of 11.5%, and a HR/FB rate of 9.5%. He hasn’t pitched very well in his six minor league starts this year, posting a 4.60 FIP with a low strikeout rate of 16.1%. He comes into tonight’s contest as one of the biggest underdogs on the board. Given his limited strikeout potential, he is an easy avoid tonight against a surging Pirates’ offense.
Pitcher Rating:26.0
Jeff Locke : FD: $6,900 — DK: $6,000
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 193.1 — SIERA: 4.12 — K%: 16.8% — BB%: 7.9% — FB Rate: 29.2% — HR/FB: 13.2%

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.280 (Rank: 25) — Strikeout Rate: 19.9% (Rank: 14)
Pitchers per PA: 3.71 (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Locke is having another mediocre season for the Pirates. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.48 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.9%. His walks are up this season and so are his home runs, both of which help explain the high ERA. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Phillies, although they are actually a pretty decent offense against left-handed pitching. Philadelphia is ranked 16th in wOBA (.312) and 10th in strikeout rate (19.4%) against southpaws this season. Locke is a sizable favorite at home tonight, but he’s not a pitcher that I will have very much exposure to tonight.

Analysis: Franco has been red-hot over the last two weeks with a .455 wOBA and a .362 ISO. His numbers against left-handed pitching aren’t great over the last two seasons, but he has a good chance to improve them tonight against Jeff Locke, who has given up a .339 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. Franco offers good value tonight at third base.

Analysis: The Pirates are in a very good spot tonight against Kevin Correia. Not only is Correia making his first start of the season, but he’s a low strikeout pitcher that has had very mediocre numbers in the minor leagues this season. McCutchen has been swinging a hot bat and he has a .405 wOBA against right-handed pitching. He’s also a dual speed/power threat that deserves consideration as one of the top plays in the outfield tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.290 (Rank: 20) — Strikeout Rate: 25.2% (Rank: 28)
Pitchers per PA: 3.77 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Pineda hasn’t been as sharp over the last month of play, but he is still having a terrific season for the Yankees. He has a SIERA under 3.00 with a high strikeout rate and one of the lowest walk rates of any qualified starter. His matchup against the Orioles may seem like a favorable one on paper, but the Orioles are finally starting to get healthy. With Matt Wieters back in the mix, they now have a very formidable lineup against both left and right-handed pitching. Pineda could come out and dominate again, but I’m not willing to take the chance at his price point.

Pitchers per PA: 3.90 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Jimenez has pitched well this season, but if you’ve played fantasy baseball over the last few years, you are likely waiting for him to blow up (I know I am!). He has improved his command this season, but he still has a walk rate of 12.2% since the start of 2014. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against a very patient Yankees’ offense that is ranked 5th in wOBA (.325) and 11th in strikeout rate (19.5%) against right-handed pitching this season. Jimenez has more risk than potential reward tonight against New York.

Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 10)
Analysis: Salazar is coming off of a dominant outing at home against the Orioles. When he’s able to get hitters into favorable counts, he is going to rack up the strikeouts. His biggest issue comes when he is forced to be timid against opponents and he isn’t able to get ahead of batters. I’m afraid that we could see that happen tonight against a Tigers’ offense that is ranked 6th in wOBA (.320) and 9th in strikeout rate (19.3%) against right-handed pitching. The Tigers are also a very good offense in Comerica, where tonight’s game will take place. I still like Salazar for tournament play, but I’ll be avoiding him in cash games.

Pitchers per PA: 3.93 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: I’m on the fence with David Price tonight. On the one hand, he is David Price and he is pitching at home. On the other hand, he is facing one of the best offenses in all of baseball. The Indians are ranked 8th in wOBA (.323) and 2nd in strikeout rate (15.9%) against left-handed pitching this season. The Indians also average the third-most pitches per plate appearance. Luckily for us, there are three other elite aces on the mound tonight (Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez, and Madison Bumgarner), which relegates Price to a tournament play.

NO RECOMMENDED PLAYS – Since the start of 2014, David Price has held left and right-handed hitters under a .290 wOBA. Carlos Santana and Nick Swisher have both had decent success against him in the past, but neither player stands out as a must play tonight.
Detroit
NO ELITE PLAYS – As mentioned above, I’m not entirely sold on Danny Salazar tonight. At the same time, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we have to target hitters against him. This could be a situation to avoid both the pitcher and the offense, but Miguel Cabrera is worth a look as a secondary option.

Analysis: Urena is a talented, young pitcher that has had some bad luck to start his major league career. His SIERA is a full run lower than his ERA though, and he’s coming off of a very strong start against this same Rockies team in Coors Field. Urena has electric stuff, but for whatever reason, it hasn’t translated to a high strikeout rate (not even in the minors). He’s a decent value play tonight against a Rockies’ offense that is much better at home than they are on the road. Urena may not be cash game safe, but he’s certainly worth a look in tournaments.

Analysis: As a big Yelich fan, I’ve been waiting for him to start hitting all season. He was one of the most consistent fantasy options at any position last season. Yelich finally appears to be coming out of his slump with hits in eight of his last ten games. The Marlins are also seeing this, as he has moved up to third in the batting order.
