Pitches per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Santana has been a boom or bust fantasy option all season. He has been extremely inconsistent, which immediately takes him out of consideration in cash games. He does provide nice upside at his price point though, making him an intriguing tournament option against the White Sox, who are ranked 21st in team wOBA and 17th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating: 55.1
Erik Johnson : FD: $5,000 — DK: $4,700

Analysis: Johnson has not fared well in his short stint in the majors, posting a 4.92 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 15.9% in just over 29 innings of work. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Twins, but there is little to no fantasy appeal here.

Minnesota
The Twins’ offense has been ice cold recently, but they draw a terrific matchup tonight against Erik Johnson, who has not pitched well at the major league level. Kennys Vargas is an interesting punt play (assuming he is batting clean-up again), while Brian Dozier and Eddie Rosario are better secondary options.

Chicago White Sox
The White Sox draw a decent matchup tonight at home against Ervin Santana. Since the start of last season, Santana has allowed a .343 wOBA to hitters from the left side of the plate. Jose Abreu is also worth a look, as he has excellent numbers against right-handed pitching.

Analysis: Wood has been a serviceable starter for the Dodgers, but he has a mediocre 4.69 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 16.2% over the last month of play. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Diamondbacks in the hitter-friendly Chase Field. He should be avoided in both cash games and tournaments.

Analysis: Ray has an intriguing strikeout rate, but that’s about all he has going for him tonight. He has not been in the best of form and he draws an awful matchup against the Dodgers, who are ranked fourth in team wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Ray is yet another pitcher that should be avoided in all league formats tonight.

LA Dodgers
The Dodgers have a high team total tonight, as they square off against Robbie Ray in a hitter-friendly ballpark. Everyone is going to target the right-handed hitters in this lineup (and rightfully so), but I’ll let you in on a little secret. Over the last three seasons, Adrian Gonzalez is 28-for-68 with seven home runs and 25 RBI. That equates to a .412 batting average and a 1.247 OPS, which is his highest in any ballpark.

While the Angels may not strikeout at a high rate, they have the third-lowest team wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. He comes into tonight’s start in average form, posting a 4.95 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 13.6% over the last month of play. While the Astros do strikeout at a high rate, that’s not enough to warrant fantasy consideration tonight.

San Francisco Giants Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.319 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 18.4% (Rank: 5)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.306 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 18.6% (Rank: 11)
Pitches per PA: 3.75 (Rank: 24)
Analysis: Cashner has not pitched well away from Petco Park in his career. While AT&T Park is also a pitcher’s park, I’m not a fan of his matchup against the Giants, who are ranked sixth in team wOBA and fifth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Some may be drawn in by his cheap price tag, but I’m going to pass in lieu of more consistent pitchers.

San Diego Padres Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.300 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 21.5% (Rank: 25)

Pitches per PA: 3.83 (Rank: 12)
Analysis: Peavy has not been in good form recently, posting a 4.58 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 17.0% over the last month of play. He is a small favorite in a game that is expected to be low scoring, but the recent form in a red flag. I prefer Peavy over Andrew Cashner, but will likely be avoiding both in tonight’s full slate of games.

San Diego
The Padres have been better recently, but on the season, they are one of the worst hitting teams against right-handed pitching. Hot-hitting Matt Kemp is in play in tournaments, but the rest of the Padres can be avoided against Jake Peavy.

The Giants draw a decent matchup tonight against Andrew Cashner, who has given up a .330 wOBA to left-handed hitters over the last two seasons. Brandon Belt and Angel Pagan are both viable secondary plays.
