Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.380 (Rank: 1) — Strikeout Rate: 16.7% (Rank: 3)
Pitches per PA: 3.87 (Rank: 8)
Analysis: Let the Subway Series begin! This is an important series for both teams and it should be incredibly fun to watch. Tanaka will be on the bump for the series opener. He has been in great form recently, posting a 3.00 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.9% over the last month of play. The issue here is his matchup against the Mets. Over the last two weeks, the Mets are ranked first in team wOBA and third in strikeout rate. With so many great aces on the mound tonight, Tanaka is a tournament play at best.
Pitcher Rating: 78.4
Steven Matz : FD: $8,600 — DK: $8,200

Pitches per PA: 3.90 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Matz has pitched well in his rookie season, posting a 3.97 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.9%. The issue tonight is twofold. His matchup is less than ideal, as the Yankees are ranked third in team wOBA and seventh in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. The other issue is that he has thrown less than 90 pitches in each of his last two starts. I love the price point for Matz, but I see him more as a tournament play tonight against the Yankees.
Pitcher Rating: 69.7

NY Yankees
The Yankees draw a difficult matchup tonight against the talented rookie, Steven Matz. The Yankees see a negative ballpark shift tonight playing in Citi Field and they also have to play this game under National League rules — no DH. Alex Rodriguez is the only fantasy option on my radar here.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.333 (Rank: 13) — Strikeout Rate: 17.0% (Rank: 4)
Pitches per PA: 3.90 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Sale has been as dominant as ever, posting a 2.07 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 36.8% over the last month of play. He draws a fairly difficult matchup on paper, but he has pitched well against the Indians in their previous three meetings this season. Sale is about as matchup-proof of a pitcher as you are going to find and he has the highest strikeout potential of any pitcher on the mound tonight. As an added bonus, run support shouldn’t be an issue with low-strikeout pitcher Cody Anderson on the mound for Cleveland.

Pitches per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: If you were to only use ERA in your daily analysis, Anderson would be one of your top pitching options tonight. He is a great example of why ERA is the most overrated stat in baseball, next to a pitcher’s record. On the season, he has a 4.74 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 11.4%. He should be avoided tonight against the White Sox.

Analysis: Morgan has not pitched well this season, posting a 4.96 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 13.9%. He has also given up 1.6 home runs per nine innings. While he does draw a favorable matchup against the Braves, that’s not enough to deserve consideration tonight. He can safely be avoided in both cash games and tournaments.

Analysis: This game is the exact opposite of the Yankees/Mets game. We have two bad pitchers facing two of the worst offenses in baseball. Perez has been in his typical bad form recently, posting a 4.94 SIERA (7.92 ERA) with a strikeout rate of only 12.9% over the last month of play. He should be avoided tonight, even in a favorable matchup against the Phillies.

Philadelphia
The Phillies draw a favorable matchup tonight against Williams Perez, who has allowed a .385 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season. The Phillies are a great source of value tonight and I actually don’t mind targeting a few of them in cash games in order to make room for some of the expensive hitters.

Analysis: Paxton has been a serviceable starter over the last two seasons, posting a 4.13 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 19.0%. The issue here is his matchup. The Rangers have come out of nowhere to take the lead in the American League West and Paxton has to face them in the hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. He is an easy pitcher to avoid tonight.

Analysis: Gallardo is rarely on my radar in daily fantasy baseball. Over the last two seasons, he has only struck out 16.5% of the batters that he has faced, which really limits his upside in DFS. He draws a mediocre matchup tonight against the Mariners, but he has to face them at home in a hitter-friendly ballpark. With so many elite pitching options on the mound, Gallardo can safely be avoided in all league formats.
