Houston Astros Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.321 (Rank: 10) — Strikeout Rate: 26.0% (Rank: 30)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.353 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 25.6% (Rank: 28)
Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 10)
Analysis: Blanton has been a pleasant surprise in the Royals’ starting rotation. He has pitched very well in his last few starts, posting a 2.40 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 27.1%. The issue here is two-fold. First, he has yet to throw more than 80 pitches in any start this season, which severely limits his upside. The second issue is his matchup. The Astros have more home runs than any other team in baseball and they have been very good recently, ranking third in wOBA (.353) over the last 14 days.
Pitcher Rating:69.0
Lance McCullers : FD: $6,700 — DK: $7,700
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 46.1 — SIERA: 3.20 — K%: 27.4% — BB%: 8.4% — FB Rate: 34.2% — HR/FB: 2.5%

Kansas City Royals Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.322 (Rank: 9) — Strikeout Rate: 15.9% (Rank: 1)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.352 (Rank: 5) — Strikeout Rate: 13.3% (Rank: 1)
Pitchers per PA: 3.66 (Rank: 30)
Analysis: McCullers has wasted little time getting acclimated to the major leagues. He has a 3.20 SIERA with an impressive strikeout rate of 27.4% this season. He has improved his command recently, which helps keep his walks down. He draws a very difficult matchup tonight against the Royals, though. Kansas City is ranked ninth in wOBA (.322) and first in strikeout rate (15.9%) against right-handed pitching this season. Given the lack of pitching options tonight, he is still in play, but he does have a somewhat limited strikeout potential.
Pitcher Rating:81.9
Batter Grind Down
Kansas City
The sample size is still small, but Lance McCullers has held left and right-handed hitters under a .275 wOBA this season. The Royals do see a favorable ballpark boost playing in the hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park, but they are secondary options at best tonight.

Houston
Joe Blanton may not pitch more than five or six innings tonight, but he could have another solid outing. He has held left and right-handed hitters under a .285 wOBA this season. The Royals also have a great bullpen, which really limits the fantasy appeal of the Astros as a whole tonight. Carlos Correa, George Springer, and Luis Valbuena are in play, but they are secondary options at their respective positions.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.294 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 21.9% (Rank: 24)
Pitchers per PA: 3.66 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Bolsinger has pitched well in his recent starts, posting a 3.79 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.1% over the last month. He walks a few too many batters for my liking, but his high strikeout rate makes up for it. He sees a negative ballpark shift playing in Chase Field tonight, but his matchup against the Diamondbacks isn’t terrible. Arizona is ranked below the major league average in both wOBA (.312) and strikeout rate (19.8%) against right-handed pitching this season.

Pitchers per PA: 3.87 (Rank: 7)
Analysis: Webster has not pitched well this season. He has a 5.77 SIERA with a walk rate (15.2%) that is higher than his strikeout rate (13.6%). Throw in a matchup against the Dodgers and we have ourselves the worst pitching option on the board tonight. The Dodgers have the highest team wOBA (.341) of any team against right-handed pitching this season.

Batter Grind Down
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers have the highest team total on the board tonight. They get to face a struggling pitcher in a hitter-friendly ballpark. Since the start of last season, Allen Webster has given up a .361 wOBA to right-handed hitters. While the batters from the right side will have the splits in their favor, the left-handed hitters are also in play here. Basically, every hitter in the Dodgers’ lineup is in play tonight.

Mike Bolsinger has been efficient against right-handed hitters, but he has given up a .354 wOBA to left-handed hitters since the start of last season. Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks don’t have many left-handed bats at their disposal. David Peralta should be considered an elite play, while Nick Ahmed (if he’s batting leadoff) and Jarrod Saltalamacchia are also in play.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.290 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 18.6% (Rank: 14)
Pitchers per PA: 3.77 (Rank: 19)
Analysis: Sabathia is one of those pitchers that just seems to have awful luck. His ERA over the last two seasons is nearly two full runs higher than his SIERA. You would think that a HR/FB rate of 19.4% would be unsustainable, but he has sustained that rate in one and a half seasons. He is due for some positive regression, but how long do we have to wait? There are better pitching options at his price point tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.377 (Rank: 1) — Strikeout Rate: 15.4% (Rank: 2)
Pitchers per PA: 3.88 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Wilson was starting to flash that 2011 form before giving up seven earned runs in only three innings of work against the Astros in his last start. His numbers over the last month of play still look good though, as he has a 3.04 SIERA with an impressive strikeout rate of 26.9%. Wilson is worth keeping an eye on, but he should be avoided tonight against the hottest offense in baseball. The Yankees have a .377 wOBA over the last 14 days and they have hit left-handed pitching well all season.

Even though C.J. Wilson has been in pretty good form recently, the Yankees have been in much better form. CC Sabathia makes my job very easy. He is very tough on left-handed hitters and he gives up a very high wOBA to right-handed hitters. Since the start of last season, Sabathia has given up a .404 wOBA to hitters from the right side of the plate. Analysis: Hale has pitched well over the last month, posting a 3.44 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.2%. His ERA hasn’t matched his SIERA during that stretch, but that is solely due to his HR/FB rate of 25.0%. That rate is unsustainable over the course of a season. Hale may experience some positive regression soon, but it likely won’t happen tonight. The A’s hit right-handed pitching well, they don’t strike out often, and they take a ton of pitches.

Analysis: Graveman has been better since being called back up from the minors, but he is still an average pitcher at best. Over the last month, he owns a 3.94 SIERA with a below-average strikeout rate of 16.9%. While the Rockies are a much different team offensively away from Coors Field, they are still a competent offense. I’m not too thrilled with either starting pitcher’s prospects tonight.

Oakland
David Hale has given up a .358 wOBA to left-handed hitters, which bodes well for the left-hand heavy lineup of the A’s. Stephen Vogt, Josh Reddick, Billy Burns, and Ben Zobrist are all in play here. Sam Fuld and/or Eric Sogard will also be in play if either player is batting at the top of the A’s lineup.
