Pitcher Grind Down

Jose Quintana

Kansas City Royals vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 15)
Strikeout Rate: 14.8% (Rank: 1)

Quintana has shown to be a serviceable starter for the White Sox over the course of the last few seasons. This year, he has a 3.57 SIERA and an average 20.6% strikeout rate. The matchup tonight is the problem as he has to face the Royals and their 14.8% strikeout rate. Rating = 6

Salaries: $7,900 FD, $7,900 DK

Danny Duffy

Chicago White Sox vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.279 (Rank: 30)
Strikeout Rate: 20.7% (Rank: 12)

Duffy is an average major league starter that lacks a whole lot of upside for DFS. He rarely pitches passed the sixth inning and has a very low K rate of 14.6%. The matchup is solid tonight against the White Sox, but I think there are much better options at the mid level price range tonight. Rating = 5

Salaries: $6,800 FD, $5,500 DK

This game features a total of eight on the night slate and with Duffy on the mound, Abreu is a clear elite play on this slate as he has allowed a wOBA of .344 to righties.

Pitcher Grind Down

Jake Peavy

Colorado Rockies vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 1)
Strikeout Rate: 20.2% (Rank: 18)

The weeklong stint of Coors games continues tonight. Peavy is Giants starter that gets to go tonight in what should be another high-scoring affair. Not much has to be said other than to avoid an average pitcher going in Coors. Rating = 3

Salaries: $6,300 FD, $5,100 DK

Chad Bettis

San Francisco Giants vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.319 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 18.6% (Rank: 5)

Bettis has now made eight starts in Coors this year and has a 5.28 ERA while allowing 27 earned runs during those games. He has a tough matchup against the Giants who rank in the top ten in the league in both wOBA and strikeout rate against righties. Avoid him tonight. Rating = 3

Salaries: $5,400 FD, $6,400 DK

Batter Grind Down

San Francisco

Bettis has allowed a .309 wOBA to lefties as well as a .373 wOBA to right-handed bats on the season. All the Giants are in play tonight as they have a 5.44 team total.

Secondary Plays:

All 1-6 hitters are in play today.

Colorado

No pitcher is safe in Coors and that includes Peavy. The Rockies have the highest team total of 5.56 and like the Giants, are all in play tonight. CarGo in clearly going to be one of the highest owned batters tonight and is the top option in this game.

Elite Plays:

Carlos Gonzalez

Alex Wood

San Diego Padres vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.295 (Rank: 25)
Strikeout Rate: 23.3% (Rank: 28)

Wood has been a serviceable starter for the Dodgers this year. He comes into this game with a solid SIERA of 4.21, yet, a low strikeout rate of just 17.9%. He gets a decent matchup tonight against the Padres at Petco and should be viewed as one of the top SP2 choices on the slate with a bit of risk attached. Rating = 6

Salaries: $7,700 FD, $8,400 DK

Tyson Ross

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.322 (Rank: 5)
Strikeout Rate: 20.4% (Rank: 19)

Ross has been solid over the last month of play. He has posted a SIERA of 3.20 during that span, along with a solid strikeout rate of 25%. He now has to face one of the better offenses in the league in the Dodgers but does get to do so in a pitcher friendly park. He has much more upside than Wood in this game that features the lowest total of the night. Rating = 7.5

Salaries: $9,200 FD, $10,300 DK

Batter Grind Down

LA Dodgers

With all the other big totals on the night slate, paying for the Dodgers against Ross who is pitching well recently is not the greatest option.

San Diego

Wood has allowed a wOBA of .346 to right-handed bats on the season. This game does feature the lowest total of the night by far and Wood and the Dodgers are slight favorites. The bats are tough to pay for.

Felix Hernandez

Oakland Athletics vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.306 (Rank: 20)
Strikeout Rate: 18.0% (Rank: 4)

Felix is having a down year by his standards but is coming off a solid start against this Oakland team as well as some extra rest. Hopefully the few extra days will return him back to his King Felix form as he has a decent matchup against the Athletics that he has pitched well against this season (3.00 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 27 innings. There is a bit of a risk attached to Felix as he has been blown up a number of times this season but is still one of the best options tonight. Rating = 8.5

Salaries: $11,000 FD, $10,700 DK

Jesse Chavez

Seattle Mariners vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.310 (Rank: 19)
Strikeout Rate: 21.6% (Rank: 27)

Chavez has been a serviceable starter this year for the Athletics. He has a SIERA of 3.93 on the season with a decent 20.3% strikeout rate. He gets a great matchup against the Mariners who strikeout at a high rate (21.6%). He is a decent SP2 option tonight. Rating = 5.5

Salaries: $7,600 FD, $7,000 DK

Derek Holland

Los Angeles Angels vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.291 (Rank: 28)

Holland has been great in his first three starts this year for the Rangers since coming back from injury. He has a 3.10 SIERA and a 23.3% strikeout rate on the season and is coming off a complete game against the Blue Jays offense in his most recent start. He does have another tough start against the Angels but gets the benefit of pitching away from Globe Life and makes a decent SP2 on the slate. Rating = 6

Salaries: $9,000 FD, $7,200 DK

Jered Weaver

Texas Rangers vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: .320 (Rank: 6)
Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 9)

Weaver is having a rough go at it this season and has been in terrible form lately. In his last two starts, he has allowed 14 earned runs and over the last month has a 4.77 SIERA. More importantly, Weaver’s strikeout rate is at a career low 12.6%. Avoid him in all formats. Rating = 4

Salaries: $7,400 FD, $5,800 DK

Holland has been solid recently, but the Angels feature a few top bats that are always in play when facing a lefty. Trout and Pujols are elite plays while Cron is a solid, cheap play tonight.
