Jerome Williams : FD: $5,100 — DK: $4,400

Pitches per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 27)
Analysis: Williams has surprisingly pitched well recently, but it will take a lot more than a few solid starts for him to become a viable option in daily fantasy. He does draw a favorable matchup against the Marlins, but they have been very good recently, ranking seventh in team wOBA over the last seven days of play. I’ll side with Miami in this one.
Pitcher Rating: 47.0
Brad Hand : FD: $5,400 — DK: $4,000

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 17) — Strikeout Rate: 22.4% (Rank: 23)
Pitches per PA: 3.70 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Hand has been a serviceable pitcher over the last two seasons, posting a 4.21 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 14.6%. He has been an easy pitcher to avoid so far this year and that will continue tonight against the Phillies. While the Phillies may not have a ton of power in their lineup, they are ranked above the major league average in both team wOBA and strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating: 55.2

Philadelphia
The Phillies had a big game last night against Mark Buehrle and the Blue Jays. They will look to continue some of that success against southpaws tonight against Brad Hand. Hand has given up a .347 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. The righties in this lineup are in play, but I have a hard time listing any of them as elite plays.

The Marlins draw a favorable matchup tonight against Jerome Williams, who has given up a .346+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.393 (Rank: 1) — Strikeout Rate: 17.1% (Rank: 3)
Pitches per PA: 3.96 (Rank: 2)
Analysis: Duffy has a 2.97 ERA over the last month of play, but he has a 5.19 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 11.6% during that stretch. He draws one of the worst matchups on the schedule tonight, as he faces the Red Sox in Fenway Park. On the season, Boston is ranked fourth in team wOBA and seventh in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating: 43.3
Wade Miley : FD: $7,100 — DK: $6,500
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.331 (Rank: 10) — Strikeout Rate: 14.5% (Rank: 1)
Pitches per PA: 3.68 (Rank: 30)
Analysis: Miley has quietly pitched well over the last month of play, posting a 3.94 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 9.4%. The issue is that he hasn’t had great success in Fenway Park and he draws an awful matchup against the Royals, who have the lowest strikeout rate of any team in baseball. The risk greatly outweighs the potential reward here.

The Royals draw a favorable matchup against Wade Miley and they get to face him in the hitter-friendly Fenway Park. Left and right-handed hitters are in play against Miley, who has given up a .300+ wOBA to hitters from both sides of the plate.

The Red Sox are small favorites tonight against Danny Duffy in a game that features a total of 9.0 runs. Duffy has a low ERA, but his peripheral statistics don’t match. The right-handed hitters have the edge in this matchup, which puts Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts, and Hanley Ramirez in play tonight.

Pitches per PA: 4.00 (Rank: 1)
Analysis: Foltynewicz is not a fun name to type, but it is a fun name to say. He is one of the lowest rated pitchers on the schedule tonight. He draws a tough matchup against the Cubs and he has to face them in Wrigley Field with a helping wind blowing out to right field. The left-handed hitters in the Cubs’ lineup are going to cause some major trouble for Foltynewicz tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.305 (Rank: 20) — Strikeout Rate: 17.6% (Rank: 5)
Pitches per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 21)
Analysis: Arrieta comes into tonight’s start in great form, posting a 1.56 ERA (3.40 SIERA) with a strikeout rate of 24.7%. His 9.9% walk rate during that stretch is a bit uncharacteristic and I don’t expect that to be a trend moving forward. While the wind is blowing out to right field, he is still my favorite pitcher to target tonight. The Braves are ranked 25th in team wOBA against right-handed pitching and they average the tenth-fewest pitches per plate appearance. If he can keep the ball in the park (which he is terrific at), he should have another quality start tonight.
Pitcher Rating: 93.3

Atlanta
The Braves draw one of the worst matchups on the board tonight, as they square off against Jake Arrieta, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .260 wOBA. The Braves’ offense should be avoided, even with the wind blowing out to right field.

Chicago Cubs
The Cubs scored eight runs last night, but they still lost by seven. That’s how big of an impact the wind can have when it is blowing out in Wrigley Field. The wind is not as strong as it was last night, but it’s expected to be around 10 MPH out to right field, which certainly doesn’t hurt the left-handed hitters in this lineup. They draw a favorable matchup against Mike Foltynewicz, who has given up a .416 wOBA to hitters from the left side of the plate.

Analysis: Archer has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He comes into tonight’s start in excellent form, posting a 2.86 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 29.8% over the last month of play. I have mixed feelings on his matchup tonight. On the one hand, the Astros have the highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. On the other hand, they have great power numbers against righties and they average the seventh-most pitches per plate appearance. I have Jake Arrieta ranked ahead of Archer as the top pitching option tonight, but not by far.

Analysis: McHugh is finally starting to round back into form. Over the last month of play, he has a 2.84 ERA (3.94 SIERA) with a strikeout rate of 19.6%. He draws one of the best matchups on the board tonight, as the Rays are ranked 27th in both team wOBA and strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. McHugh is going to fly under the radar with Chris Archer pitching opposite him, but he makes a strong SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

Analysis: After Stephen Strasburg pitched well in Coors Field last night, there will likely more talk about Scherzer being a viable fantasy option tonight. For me, the rules haven’t changed. I don’t target pitchers in Coors Field and that rule applies to everyone. Vegas agrees with me here, as the Rockies have the seventh-highest run total on the board tonight.

Analysis: Flande has pitched well recently, but some of that work was out of the bullpen. He has not fared well as a starter in his career. He can safely be avoided tonight against the Nationals, who have the highest team total on the board.

Washington
The Nationals got off to a slow start last night, but their offense ended up scoring four runs, which isn’t terrible. They have the highest team total on the board again tonight, as they square off against Yohan Flande. All of the right-handed hitters (plus Bryce Harper) are in play tonight in Coors Field.

Colorado
The Rockies may have the seventh-highest team total on the board tonight, but they are overpriced for their matchup against Max Scherzer, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .300 wOBA over the last two seasons. Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon are in play as tournament targets, but the Rockies can be avoided in cash games.
