Chris Rusin : FD: $5,200 — DK: $4,700
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 120.0 — SIERA: 4.13 — ERA: 5.03 — K%: 15.1% — BB%: 6.3% — HR/9: 1.1

San Diego Padres Offense (2015)

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.305 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 21)
Pitches per PA: 3.83 (Rank: 12)
Analysis: As bad as it sounds, you could get away with fading the Rockies’ pitching staff the entire season. Rusin is included in that bunch, as he has a low strikeout rate and a mediocre SIERA. Even though the Padres strikeout at a high rate against left-handed pitching, I will not be targeting Rusin in any league format tonight.
Pitcher Rating: 52.4
James Shields : FD: $8,500 — DK: $9,400
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.330 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 16.8% (Rank: 5)
Pitches per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Shields hasn’t been sharp recently, but a matchup against the Rockies at home could be just what he needs to get back on track. The Rockies current lineup is less than intimidating and Shields gets to face them in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park. His price has come down across the industry and he is a sizable favorite in a game that features a low total of 7.0 runs. Shields is a borderline SP1 and can be used as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.
Pitcher Rating: 79.4
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
The Rockies have one of the lowest team totals on the board tonight, as they square off against James Shields in Petco Park. If you are targeting anyone in this matchup, target the left-handed hitters, as Shields has given up a .336 wOBA to hitters from that side of the plate.

Analysis: Heston has been an easy avoid recently, as his strikeout rate is down and his SIERA is up. That’s not the type of combination that we are looking to target. He can safely be avoided tonight against the Diamondbacks. Not only are they a very capable offense, but he has to face them on the road in the hitter-friendly Chase Field.

Analysis: Godley has had mixed results in his first 27 major league innings, but a 4.30 SIERA and a 21.9% strikeout rate certainly isn’t the worst that we have seen. The issue tonight is his matchup against the Giants. On the season, San Francisco is ranked eighth in team wOBA and fifth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching.

Analysis: McHugh is finally looking like the McHugh of last season. Over the last month of play, he has a 3.49 SIERA (1.59 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 25.0%. The masses will likely be off of him tonight against the A’s, but he makes a terrific tournament play. His ownership level will be low despite the fact that the A’s are ranked 23rd in team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating: 81.7

Analysis: Brooks has a 10.05 ERA in his first 31 innings of major league action, but his SIERA of 4.25 tells another story. While we should expect some positive regression, he’s still not a recommended fantasy option. He carries more risk than potential reward, especially in a matchup against a potent Astros’ offense.

Analysis: Richards has been in fairly good form recently, posting a 3.67 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 17.8% over the last month of play. We need to come to terms with the fact that he is not going to have a 25%+ strikeout rate like he did in 2014 before his injury. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Dodgers, who are ranked fifth in team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Richards isn’t the worst play on the board, but I will likely have zero shares of him tonight.

Analysis: Nuno is in the same boat as Perez, although he doesn’t have the form to back him. He has a very low strikeout rate of 13.6% over the last month of play. He should be avoided tonight against the Rangers. There are better pitching options for both cash games and tournaments.
