Sean Newcomb

Let's Try This Again

It’s been an up and down season for Sean Newcomb, though it’s been a lot more bad than good recently. He’s only pitched one good game outside of his last five games but has a great matchup tonight in San Francisco. Hundley and Longoria have ISOs over .200 against left-handed pitching this season, but the projected starters have a .151 ISO against lefties. Newcomb continues to show reverse splits this season and has a .310 wOBA with a .116 ISO against right-handed hitters. This is also one of the best ballparks in baseball for pitchers. With the ballpark and the lack of power in this lineup, I think Newcomb is one of the best value pitchers on the slate.

Jacob deGrom

Jacob deGrom scratched Sunday; Corey Oswalt will start in his place

deGrom will have his previously scheduled start pushed back, likely until tomorrow, and consequentially won’t pitch for the New York Mets in Sunday’s home matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies due to a managerial decision that was coerced by forecasted inclement weather. He’ll be replaced on the mound by Corey Oswalt, who, like deGrom, is a right-handed pitcher, so his presence on the bump shouldn’t alter the confirmed lineup of the Phillies in any significant fashion, if at all. That said, still be sure to double check out the Starting Lineups page and projections in LinuepHQ for any notable changes prior to submitting lineups for tonight’s main slate.

Take the Parrot Out

It’s been a while since Edwin Encarnacion has taken his parrot out for a walk but it’s also been a while since he’s been priced this low in an exploitable matchup against a below average lefty. Thomas Pannone dazzled in his first Big League start but struggled his second time out against a poor Baltimore offense that took him to the cleaners for seven earned runs over 3.1 IP. Encarnacion has crushed lefties throughout the course of his career to the tune of a 130 wRC+ and .229 ISO and this is unquestionably a strong power spot for the Cleveland slugger.

Sunday's Marlins-Pirates game has been postponed due to inclement weather

The matchup between the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon has been postponed due to anticipated inclement weather throughout the day. The teams have already announced that today’s previously scheduled game will be made up Monday, October 1 at a time to be determined at a later date. Players from this matchup will not accrue fantasy points on Sunday’s slates across the industry, so be sure to remove them from lineups as soon as possible.

Logan Forsythe

Miami Marlins

Most Owned Hitter

Yesterday I wrote that Logan Forsythe was likely my most owned player over the last week and a half. Well, I rostered Forsythe’s zero yesterday and I’ll be going back to the well on Sunday as he remains too cheap for the matchup, his spot in the order, and his average offensive skill-set. Forsythe certainly isn’t a flashy option but he’s a great way to save salary which will allow you spend your money either at SP1 or heavy hitters.

Andrew Heaney

Los Angeles Dodgers
9/09/18, 9:21 AM ET

Andrew Heaney is

If you’re not paying up for deGrom at SP1, or want to double spend at pitcher, Heaney seems to be the guy to target. Heaney gets a great road matchup against a White Sox team that has a collective strikeout rate of 28% against LHP via PlateIQ. Heaney represents a more than $5,000 savings from deGrom on DraftKings and is a good way to have enough salary to grab exposure to Coors hitters in cash.

Eddie Rosario

Milwaukee Brewers
9/09/18, 9:09 AM ET

Quietly a Top Play in Minnesota

Eddie Rosario has been swinging the bat well of late, and he also owns a .300+ average, .363 wOBA, and .222 ISO against RHP this year. Throw in a matchup against homer-prone Ian Kennedy, and you have a great high upside play this afternoon. Rosario never gets the attention he deserves because he is wallowing in Minnesota, but he can hit, and the matchup is great today.

Jacob deGrom

Texas Rangers

Top Pitcher on the Board

It’s pretty obvious at this point that deGrom is one of the best pitchers in the major leagues. Of course, the Mets never give him any run support, but that element is out of his control. deGrom owns a ridiculous 1.68 ERA and 230/42 K/BB ratio for the year, with an elite batted ball profile to go along with that. Fire him up with confidence in all formats today.

Jacob deGrom

Texas Rangers

Unrivaled Floor/Ceiling

Looking at various projection sources, deGrom has a raw projection nearly 12 points higher than the next starting pitcher in line, Andrew Heaney. deGrom is far and away the most expensive option on the slate but Sunday’s typically result in plenty of value hitting options, especially in September. deGrom is the ace of the slate with a 2.90 SIERA and 31.3% strikeout rate and he has an unrivaled floor/ceiling combo in a home matchup against Philly.

Mike Trout

Los Angeles Angels
9/09/18, 9:00 AM ET

Top Overall Hitter

Unsurprisingly, Mike Trout had a good fantasy performance on Saturday night against an overmatched James Shields and White Sox bullpen. The Angles outfielder went 5-for-5 and put up 45 DK pts. Trout gets a similarly good matchup on Sunday at hitter friendly Guaranteed Rate Field against Reynaldo Lopez who has been a mess most of this season. Lopez is the owner of a 5.10 SIERA, 17.5 K% and has been poor in terms of stolen base prevention (-1 rSB). This sets up for a good power + speed matchup for Trout once again and he’s the top overall hitter on the slate.

Logan Forsythe

Miami Marlins
9/09/18, 1:49 AM ET

Just way too cheap

I get sucked into this trap way too often and today is going to be no different. Forsythe is the cheapest viable guy by a long shot on the slate today and although we only owns a .309 wOBA vs. RHP on the year, thats more than enough to justify his price considering that he will likely be batting 4th in the lineup and is facing Kennedy who owns a 43.5% FB rate and a 38.8% hard contact rate. You are unlikely to get a bomb out of Forsythe, but this is just a plus matchup for an average MLB hitter who is priced way too low. If you need some salary savings on this slate, Forsythe is one of the best PT/$ plays.

Jay Bruce

New York Yankees
9/09/18, 1:44 AM ET

Power hitter vs. a Pitcher Who Gives up Bombs

Bruce has not played fantastically this year, but he’s due for some positive regression. He has a CXwOBA over .400 vs. RHP, and in 2017 he had an ISO over .270 and a wOBA over .376 vs. RHP. he draws a matchup against Velasquez who is a pitcher who gives up a .200+ ISO vs. righties. With Velasquez’s high K rate this is probably a bomb or bust spot here, but but if the Met’s can get his pitch count high (Velazquez tends to walk quite a few guy) and get to the Met’s bullpen early, Bruce will be facing the second worst bullpen in the league this year. Take advantage of Bruce’s price right now which is way too low for how good of a pitcher he is.

Yonder Alonso

Atlanta Braves
9/09/18, 1:37 AM ET

A Cheap Bat in a High Implied Team Total

We don’t have a huge sample size on Pannone, but frmo what we have seen this kid is not a great pitcher and his numbers in the minors seem to point the same way. On the year he owns a 4.5+ ERA in both the minors and the majors. Alonso on the other hand hasn’t hit lefties great this year, but he’s due for some positive regression. He owns a CXwOBA which is 140 points higher than his wOBA vs. LHP. I don’t generally like targeting lefty/lefty matchups, but the price here is just way too cheap and they’re playing in a decent hitters ballpark. Take the savings here.

John Gant

Kansas City Royals
9/09/18, 1:31 AM ET

A Pitcher Who's Been Hot Lately

Gant’s season numbers haven’t really been anything to home about, but he draws a real plus matchup here and he’s been pitching great lately. Over the last 6 games, Gant has 4 over 20 DK point outings and he draws a matchup against the Tigers who’s lineup is nothing to write home about. The current Det projected lineup owns a 23% k rate and an ISO under .159 vs. RHP. With how bad this lineup is, there isn’t a whole lot that can go wrong here for Gant and with the high k rate there is huge upside

Vince Velasquez

Chicago Cubs
9/09/18, 1:25 AM ET

High Upside Cheap Pitcher

Velasquez is a pitcher that seems to have all the talent in the world, but due to high high FB% and hard hit rate he can occasionally get beat up. On the year, Velasquez owns a high 26.3% K rate which gives him a ton of upside in this matchup against a projected Mets lineup which owns a 22% k rate on the season vs. RHP. The Mets do owns some bats with a decent amount of power, but most of this is negated by the cold weather conditions and the great pitchers ballpark. If you start Velasquez, there is a chance he ends up getting crushed, but the price and the matchup makes it completely worth it.
