This winger is in a surprisingly great matchup this evening.
The Boston Bruins are road underdogs as they head to Winnipeg to take on the Jets. But, the Jets have actually had some poor possession numbers as of late. Their 47.27 CF% over the last month ranks 24th in the NHL while they’ve allowed a ton of shot attempts, giving up 60.93 CA/60 which is the 7th-most over the same time frame. Patrice Bergeron continues to centre the top line of Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak’s replacement — Danton Heinen. As mentioned above, the Bruins are actually underdogs in this matchup, but given their recent play compared to that of the Jets, this is a surprisingly good matchup. Bergeron has put up 26 goals and 65 points in 54 games which gives him a 1.20 points per game average — just behind Marchand’s 1.23 PPG average.

This. Man. Does. Not. Stop. Alex Ovechkin just scored his 1200th point in his last game and is on pace for his best goal and point totals in almost a decade. At the ripe age of 33, Alex Ovechkin has not slowed down in the goal-scoring department and there is no reason to expect him to hit a wall tonight as the Washington Capitals visit the Philadelphis Flyers. The Flyers have been abysmal as of late from a possession standpoint, giving up 62.47 CA/60 which is the third most in the NHL over the last month and have a 47.00 CF% which is the 6th-worst rate over the same time frame. Ovechkin is second in the NHL with 16 power play goals and with the Flyers 77.9 percent penalty kill that ranks 26th in the league doesn’t bode well Philly.

It is a situation to monitor, but last time out Wayne Simmonds skated on the Predators’ top line alongside Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg. Though Wayne did not find the scoresheet, something he has really struggled to do this season, the Los Angeles Kings are one of the more opportunistic matchups in the National Hockey League. Simmonds saw a bulk of the work on the Predators’ top power play unit which has struggled all season long, but they draw the Kings whose 75.6% penalty kill rate trails only the Blackhawks and Oilers for a league-worst. Simmonds is reasonable across the industry and makes for a worthwhile, late hammer tournament target against the team that drafted him in 2007.
Bounce back spot for St. Louis rookie?
Robert Thomas was quite chalky on Tuesday night and put up zero fantasy points, but the opportunity was certainly there as he logged 18 minutes of ice time. When Thomas was on the ice, the Blues had 19 chances for and 6 chances against at 5v5. A razor sharp Darcy Kuemper was the only thing standing in the way from a big night from the Blues’ top line. With the Ottawa Senators in full tank mode, St. Louis has no excuse not to win this game. Making matters easier for them is that Thomas Chabot has been ruled out for some time, further depleting an already barren wasteland on Ottawa’s blue line. Thomas is still $3,000 on DraftKings, and after getting skunked last time out, DFS players will certainly be more gun-shy. Take a chance on Robert again.
Two-game suspension for Jack Eichel opens door
With Jack Eichel serving the final game of his two-game suspension, an opportunity is present for Evan Rodrigues. Last time out, Rodrigues and the Sabres drew a tough matchup against sizzling Ben Bishop, who has now recorded three consecutive shutouts. Evan had five shots on goal and will operate on Buffalo’s top power play unit. Although the Sabres have been shutout in consecutive games, this could be a flat spot for the Pittsburgh Penguins after coming from behind against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night. On the road, Pittsburgh is just 17-11-7, and Buffalo is averaging over three goals per game on home ice, though much of that can be attributed to Eichel. Nonetheless, Evan Rodrigues makes for a cheap, low-owned option in mass multi-entry tournaments.
A change of scenery was what this winger needed to turn his career around
The Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs are likely to end up in a back-and-forth matchup tonight that should produce plenty of offense. The “third” line for the Blackhawks is comprised of Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini and it has been solid. Perlini even scored a hat trick last game which is quite something. Strome needed a change of scenery — and quite frankly to be given a fair opportunity — and boy has he taken advantage. Since coming to Chicago, Strome has put up 14 goals and 41 points in 44 games and looks to be producing like the 3rd overall pick he is.

This is an on-again off-again line that is pretty solid when out there together. Elias Pettersson has been an obvious stud as a rookie this year but has hit a bit of a wall with just 4 goals in his last 20 games. However, a matchup against the New York Rangers is a great one to get things going again. As Pettersson centres Josh Leivo and Brock Boeser, they take on a Rangers team that has a 46.95 CF% which ranks 26th over the last month and a fourth-worst CA/60 rate of 62.38. On the flip side, the Vancouver Canucks have had a top five CF/60 rate of 63.41 which ranks fourth overall in the last month.

This line was put back together last game with Kasperi Kapanen out, and it with coming out that Kapanen has a concussion, this line is likely to stay together for the near future. It is pretty cheap considering it can be a very effective line. Auston Matthews is centering Andreas Johnsson and William Nylander on the Toronto Maple Leafs second line and a home matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks is certainly a good one. Now, the power play correlation is a bit odd as Matthews is the only one of these three on the top unit. However, Johnsson and Nylander play on the second unit together so getting that correlation is still solid.

New Jersey may be terrible, as evidenced by their 9-4 pounding by the Flames last night, but Blake Coleman continues to get top minutes. Last night he had a goal and an assist in a tough matchup. Though tonight’s spot is not great, going into Edmonton is not as daunting as Calgary. Coleman checks in at just $3,900 on DraftKings and $4,200 on FanDuel. The 27 year old sees ice time in all situations and is in a nice stretch at the moment, tallying 8, 3.5, 3 and 4 DraftKings points and 14.4, 9.6, 14.1 and 28.4 FanDuel points in his last four contests. With Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and John Tavares sure to be popular, Coleman is a contrarian pivot in tournaments.
Kasperi Kapanen is out indefinitely with a concussion
William Nylander was alongside Auston Matthews last time out, and although he was skunked in 16 minutes of ice time, that came against the best team in the National Hockey League. At home against a generous Blackhawks’ defense, this could be William Nylander’s time to shine. Nylander is priced more appropriately on FanDuel ($4,700), but he is still worthy of a roster spot there. On DraftKings is where Nylander ($3,500) really stands out. He is a core play in all formats.
Cheap defenseman can round out your roster
While Stecher is not seeing the top power play minutes anymore with Alexander Edler back, he has logged over 26 minutes of ice time in four March games. At a minuscule $2,800 on DraftKings, Stecher is a viable source of salary relief to load up on forwards, where there are a number of top spends. Stecher is still on Vancouver’s second power play unit which gives him some additional upside, though temper your expectations.
This center continues to put up points on his new team
Over the last month, the Montreal Canadiens are sporting the 4th-best CF% with a 53.19 rate which should bode well as they host the Detroit Red Wings and their 24th ranked CF% of 47.91 over the last month. Additionally, the Canadiens 5th-best 61.59 CF/60 is impressive and should help bury the Red Wings tonight. The line of most interest is comprised of Max Domi, Paul Byron and Andrew Shaw. On the surface, this line doesn’t seem that appealing but given that they remain in-tact on the top power play unit is intriguing. Utilizing this and rolling with a line that has full-game correlation can give you elite upside which is needed to finish at or near the top of a large-field tournament.

With Vladimir Tarasenko expected to be out again tonight, the St. Louis Blues will be rolling a top line of Brayden Schenn, Ryan O’Reilly and Robert Thomas. This line is actually a bit of a value when you consider how cheap Robert Thomas is. The Blues have been a great possession team over the last month with a 52.99 CF% which is the fifth-best mark over that stretch. They’re taking on the Arizona Coyotes who have a 28th ranked 46.94 CF% over the last month which is a great matchup. Additionally, the Coyotes are on the tail-end of a back-to-back which puts the Blues in an even more favourable spot.

David Pastrnak remains on the shelf as the Boston Bruins visit Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets. Columbus is coming off a 2-0 loss at the hands of the New York Islanders last night which is unfortunate as they need every point they can get. Now, on the second-half of a back to back they are taking on the Boston Bruins. The Bruins will have Patrice Bergeron centering Brad Marchand and Danton Heinen, as has been the case over the last few games. A large benefit to rostering this entire line stack is that they are all on the top power play unit together. This gives the line full-game correlation and elite upside as a result.

After a mediocre 18 points (8G, 10A) in 46 games for the Florida Panthers, Jared McCann has already matched his goal total (8) along with collecting three assists in just 19 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. McCann has particularly come alive in March with six points (3G, 3A) in six games. While McCann does not see power play time, he has been skating with two elite players in Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel. McCann has two short-handed goals already with the Penguins and is often on the ice when the Penguins are looking an empty net goal to ice games. McCann and his linemates make for a nice stack in tournaments as the Capitals have really struggled at even-strength.
