Goalie takes on team who has not scored in nearly 200 minutes
Curtis McElhinney has yet to be confirmed, but with Petr Mrazek starting last night and a somewhat soft opponent in Buffalo, it is likely McElhinney will get the nod. Jack Eichel is set to return for the Sabres tonight which will certainly help their offense, but the team has struggled mightily after their hot start to the season. The Sabres have a single regulation win in their last 14 games. Meanwhile, Carolina continues to produce strong results. A sizzling Sergei Bobrovsky stood in their way last night. Curtis (or Mrazek if he starts) make for an affordable option in the crease if looking for a likely win in cash games.
In tournaments, taking a chance on either Linus Ullmark or Carter Hutton makes sense as they should see a heavy number of shots. Though Carolina’s offense has been much better with the addition of Nino Niederreiter, time and time again this season we have seen goalies put up massive numbers against Carolina. Buffalo’s goalie is cheap, contrarian and could be a difference maker in tournaments.

While Jeff Petry is priced more appropriately on DraftKings ($5,000), his price really stands out on FanDuel ($3,900) where he is viable in all formats to free up salary for some star forwards. Petry’s price has come tumbling as he has gone pointless in seven games this month, but if there were ever a time to get it going, it is in this high-event matchup with the Blackhawks. Petry continues to log solid minutes (22:00 post All-Star break) as well as power play time. Save some salary with Jeff.
Consecutive multi-point games for cheap Toronto winger
William Nylander has not had his price adjusted much yet as he checks in at a very attractive $3,900 on DraftKings tonight against Ottawa. Though the Senators have shown some improvement and this is a road game, the crowd will be Toronto-heavy, so it’s more like a home game. Nylander has consecutive multi-point games, and his hard work was influential last night as he and Matthews were buzzing throughout the game. With Ottawa’s top line (namely Pageau & Tkachuk) likely spending most of their ice time against Tavares and Marner, the door is open for another big night from Toronto’s second line.
This line is simply in play every night
Tampa Bay is simply in play every night. A home matchup against a Washington team isn’t anything to shy away from here. Washington has given up 13.95 scoring chances per 60 minutes of play in their past seven road games. I usually prefer the Stamkos line in GPP’s on home ice. However, with Tampa bay likely hard matching Nikitia Kucherov, Brayden Point, and Tyler Johnson against the Cap’s top line, this is the line I prefer here. Nicklas Backstrom is Washington’s best defensive center, and this line should see minimum ice time against him.

Over the past month, Ottawa has allowed the most HDCA/60 while giving up 3.55 GA/60 in the process. We know Ottawa is a team we can always target against and tonight is no different. Toronto has three lines we can play here, but after the second line’s big game last night, I give the edge to John Tavares, Mitch Marner, and Zach Hyman in GPP’s. I would expect them to be slightly less owned, and you get two-thirds of the top power-play unit. Morgan Rielly makes a great addition in a great special teams matchup.

Patrice Bergeron has suited up for 55 games this season and has done a fabulous job in those games that he has played in. 65 points is what he has been credited with which ranks him 13th in the league where points-per-game are concerned. A funny thing happens though when you toggle the venue from all to just home games as the 46 points he has registered in the 30 home games he has played in has him behind only Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherov with a whopping 1.53 points-per-game on home ice. Evidently the Bruins know how to line-match pretty well as their 27-7-3 record in front of the home crowd is second only to the league leading Tampa Bay Lightning. Brad Marchand has been his line mate for most of the 55 games that Bergeron has played in while David Backes, provided he stays on that top line this evening, will surely help you out salary-wise.

Florida is another team with a plus/plus match-up as the 44 times they have lit the lamp over the last 11 games is second in the league only to Toronto. Meanwhile, The Los Angeles Kings come in third in goals against since February 23rd as they have seem the opposing team light the lamp 38 times over the last 10 games. When speaking about the Panthers the top line that features Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov are the first ones to come to mind. Mike Hoffman is the player to target here however and I will tell you why. Just recently the Panthers have moved Hoffman up to the second line but before that he was doing just fine as a power play specialist in which he has indeed scored 15 of his 32 goals with the extra attacker. This plays right into Florida’s hands this evening as the 12 power play goals that they have scored over the last 11 games is the most in the league. If you still aren’t convinced then maybe the 20 goals that he has scored on the road this season may help sway your thinking a bit. In fact, Hoffman leads the team with 30 points away from home so far this season which makes an awful lot of sense as the opposing teams are usually trying to shut down the team’s top line.

When choosing core players one must look at match-ups and current production to come to a quality decision on who to choose. With 12 games on tap today there are plenty of quality players to choose from this evening so narrowing down the field is almost imperative. John Tavares has a plus/plus match-up here as the 47 goals the Maple Leafs have scored since February 23rd is the most in the league while the Ottawa Senators have given up 34 goals over their last 10 games. Ottawa is also the only team in the league to not reach the 10 win plateau when skating as the road team. The last time these two teams met Tavares chipped in a goal and an assist while skating on the top line with Mitchell Marner and Zach Hyman. They will be his line mates here again this evening as he will look to be the fourth player to join the 40-goal club.

William Nylander may not be picking up that many points as of late, but it’s obvious when you watch him that he’s playing much better than he was two months ago. Reuniting with Auston Matthews has been great for both as the line with Andreas Johnsson has controlled the play incredibly. Tonight the Toronto Maple Leafs are hosting the Philadelphia Flyers — a team that is on the tail-end of a back to back. Over the last month, the Flyers have allowed 62.23 CA/60 which is the third-most and on the flip side, the Leafs have put up 66.09 CF/60 over the same time frame. This is a lopsided matchup for this line and the Leafs and should be in strong consideration for a line stack.

This line was dominant last game and there is some hope for them again tonight. Matt Duchene is centering Ryan Dzingel and Josh Anderson on the Columbus Blue Jackets second line. The one issue with this line is you are really counting on them at even strength. Dzingel doesn’t play on the power play and Duchene and Anderson are on separate units. They have a matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes which is relatively neutral as of late, but Petr Mrazek in net gives some hope. He has struggled this season with a .908 save percentage and 2.53 goals against average. As the Blue Jackets continue to fight to keep their playoff hopes alive, the should be playing their best hockey.

He’s put up just five points in seven games for Vegas since being traded there, but this is still a great spot for him and the Vegas Golden Knights tonight. They visit the Dallas Stars who are on the tail-end of a back to back in which they played in Minnesota last night. Over the last month, the Knights have a league-best 68.05 CF/60 and the second-best CF% with a 55.68 rate. The Stars, on the other hand, have the fifth-worst CA/60 with a 61.77 rate and their 46.31 CF% is 26th. While Mark Stone plays on the top power play unit with his linemates relegated to PP2, this still makes for an elite line stack in this matchup.

Checking in at just $3,400 on DraftKings, Josh Leivo is a solid target in all formats as he has been seeing consistent minutes and power play time. New Jersey has been destroyed on the road all season long, so Vancouver in general tonight provides a lot of value, despite their offensive struggles. Leivo has 11 shots on goal over his last four games while recording a goal and an assist. Leivo and his linemates make for an affordable mid-range stack in this strong matchup on home ice.
A goal in three straight games for bottom-dwelling Devil
After their shellacking at the hands of the Flames, Blake Coleman went into Edmonton the next time and embarrassed them 6-3. Coleman took three shots on goal and scored for his third consecutive game. Due to the rash of injuries up front for the Devils, Coleman has been a featured piece on the team’s top line, top power play and when on the penalty kill. Going into Vancouver and a solid Jacob Markstrom is not the most ideal place, but if the Devils win this game, Coleman figures to be involved once again. His price is still hovering around $4,000 which seems too cheap given his heavy usage. He is a fine tournament target.
Mid-season acquisition taking on larger role
With Gabriel Landeskog out indefinitely, Derick Brassard has been thrust into a more prominent role. Last time out, Brassard logged 20 minutes of ice time on the team’s top line alongside superstar Nathan MacKinnon. While Brassard has not been fantasy relevant in years, his price is far too cheap for a plus matchup against an Anaheim team on the tail end of a back to back. Brassard is just $3,000 on DraftKings which gives him massive appeal in cash games and tournaments to be able to grab that stud defenseman or forward.
You cannot get a better matchup than this right now.
With Vladimir Tarasenko still on the shelf, Ryan O’Reilly has been centering Brayden Schenn and Robert Thomas over the last couple games. O’Reilly leads the team in assists with 41, points with 67 and is second in goals and shots with 26 and 192 respectively. The matchup against the Ottawa Senators is about as good as you can get. Over their last 12 games, the Senators have allowed an absurd 50 goals (4.17 per game). The St. Louis Blues possession over the last month has solid as their 53.27 CF% ranks fourth in the NHL and their 59.32 CF/60 ranks 9th. On the Senators side of things, they have a 23rd ranked CF% rate of 48.60 and allow a 60.16 CA/60 which is the 10th most.
