Patric Hornqvist

Florida Panthers
3/01/19, 10:35 AM ET

Gritty veteran slowly finding some form

Hornqvist will be hard-pressed to match his goal total (29) from a year ago, but his ice time is on the rise. Accordingly, Hornqvist has picked up an assist in back to back games as he is skating on the top line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel who continue to drive play at even-strength. In a high-event matchup with Buffalo’s top line, the opportunity for Hornqvist and company to find the scoresheet is phenomenal. The Swedish veteran checks in under $5,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel which makes him a core cash game play and strong tournament play as part of a line stack or power play stack.

Connor McDavid

Edmonton Oilers
2/28/19, 2:33 PM ET

The best player in the league continues to have a rotation of wingers

Connor McDavid is still the best player in the league, obviously, but he still gets stuck with a rotation of wingers. Tonight, it will be Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zack Kassian joining McDavid on the top line. There should be little interest in Kassian as his offensive ability is limited at best. However, Nugent-Hopkins and McDavid are a very intriguing mini-stack as they play on the top power play unit together as well. The Oilers are in Ottawa to take on the Senators — a team that has completely bottomed out as of late with trading four of their best players over the last months.

Brady Tkachuk

Ottawa Senators
2/28/19, 1:52 PM ET

Favorable spot for young Senator to erupt

The Edmonton Oilers were pasted by the Maple Leafs last night, and while the Senators have sent away their team and look miserable, they still have some offensive talent. Brady Tkachuk stands out the most as the 19 year old has 14 goals this season. With Mark Stone and Matt Duchene elsewhere, Tkachuk has seen a slight boost in ice time. Edmonton really struggles while short-handed which further adds to Brady’s value as he sees the top power play minutes. Since the All-Star break, Brady is averaging over three shots on goal per game. With Edmonton starting the Mikko Koskinen in net again, after being pulled last night, Tkachuk has a good chance of finding the back of the net.

Jakob Chychrun

Washington Capitals
2/28/19, 1:40 PM ET

Cheap defenseman makes for low-owned flyer in tournaments

Though the Coyotes blue line is crowded with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Alex Goligoski, Chychrun stands out as a worthy punt option, particularly given the cheap price tag on FanDuel ($3,800). Chychrun has picked up a point in three of his last four games, taking nine shots on goal. In a 3-2 overtime win in Vancouver one week ago, Chychrun potted a goal on five shots. With the Canucks on a tail end of a back to back after playing in the thin Denver air last night, Arizona could be sneaky. Oliver Ekman-Larsson will likely see some traction given his price and coming off one of his strongest games of the year. Chychrun, who also sees top power play minutes, makes for a contrarian pivot.

Mark Stone

Vegas Golden Knights
2/28/19, 2:33 PM ET

This winger's second game with his new team is a great matchup

This will be his second game with the Vegas Golden Knights and after settling in, he’s going to be playing with Max Pacioretty and Paul Stastny. Pacioretty scored twice last game but Stone was unable to pick up any points. Vegas, despite their lackluster point total this season, has actually been pretty dominant from a possession standpoint. They should pick up the pace the remainder of the season and into the playoffs. Over the last month, the Golden Knights have a 52.61 CF% (6th) and a 61.24 (7th) as they host the Florida Panthers. The Panthers have been a middling team for most of the season, but a struggling Roberto Luongo expected in the net, Vegas should have few issues piling up the goals. Luongo has an ugly 3.09 goals against average and a .897 save percentage this season which doesn’t bode well against a team with possession numbers as strong as the Golden Knights.

John Tavares

Toronto Maple Leafs
2/28/19, 2:33 PM ET

Facing his former team for the first time is the story line for this game tonight

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the tail-end of a back-to-back after destroying the Edmonton Oilers last night. Tonight is the return to Long Island for John Tavares and this game is probably going to go one of two ways. Tavares is going to be booed out of the building, in all likelihood and he will either be affected by it and struggle or want to prove something and utterly dominate. I believe Tavares is going to rise to the occasion and have a fantastic game. He is playing alongside Mitchell Marner and Zach Hyman at even strength, but the key is perhaps a mini-stack with Marner here as they are both on the top power play unit. This games them full-game correlation and elite upside as a pair. The Leafs have been dominant as of late as they have a 51.95 CF% which is the 7th best over the last month and their 66.98 CF/60 is tops in the league over the same time frame.

Cam Atkinson

Tampa Bay Lightning
2/28/19, 12:25 PM ET

Line Possesses Slate-Breaking Upside

The Blue Jackets were surprise buyers at the trade deadline, adding Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel from the Senators. As of now, Duchene and Dzingel are expected to play together on the second line for tonight’s matchup against the Flyers. DFS players love flocking to the fancy new toys, which could lead the #1 line of Pierre-Luc Dubois, Cam Atkinson, and Artemi Panarin to go overlooked. Atkinson and Panarin also see time on PP1, so they make a viable two-man stack without PLD. The Flyers have been hemorrhaging goals lately and were sellers at the deadline, indicating they might be waving the white flag on this season.

Charlie McAvoy

Boston Bruins
2/28/19, 12:20 PM ET

Expected Low Ownership in Tough Matchup

Torey Krug gets more love from a fantasy perspective due to his power play exposure, but Charlie McAvoy has arguably been more productive lately and at a much cheaper price. McAvoy’s ownership tonight should be low due to a tough matchup against the lead-leading Lightning, but I like his upside at a cheap price. He’s seen at least 22 minutes in four consecutive games, and that should continue in what should be a close game.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Toronto Maple Leafs
2/28/19, 12:16 PM ET

Offensive Defenseman Finding Form

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, or “OEL” has elevated his game lately with points in three straight games, all victories for the Desert Dogs. He’s seen his ice time ramp up and played almost 29 minutes in his last outing against Florida. OEL will also quarterback the powerplay, which should be beneficial against a Vancouver team taking the 4th most penalties in the NHL. The Canucks are also on the second of a back-to-back, which could lead to some tired legs and lazy penalties.

Paul Stastny

Carolina Hurricanes
2/28/19, 11:42 AM ET

Veteran center should thrive alongside new acquisiton

Paul Stastny picked up two assists last time out as Vegas scored four unanswered goals to defeat Dallas 4-1. With streaky Max Pacioretty heating up again (two goals on eight shots in his last game), Stastny is in a prime spot to produce, especially with Mark Stone joining the fold as well. Vegas is one of the top teams to target tonight against a high-event Florida team that has really struggled defensively on the road. Stastny is a cheap option at center as he figures to pick up at least an assist tonight.

Brock Boeser

Vancouver Canucks
2/27/19, 2:05 PM ET

This winger gets to play with the best rookie in the NHL

Brock Boeser is having a solid season with 21 goals and 42 points in 50 games and has had the luxury of playing with Elias Pettersson as of late with a rotation of left-wingers. Currently, Nikolay Goldobin is the lucky left winger and the salary savings he brings makes this line a very affordable one with upside. Boeser and Pettersson make for a solid mini-stack as the two are on the top power play unit together and while the Avs have been a bit better as of late, they are still a team that can break down defensively and allow this line to get on the scoresheet.

Matthew Tkachuk

Florida Panthers
2/27/19, 2:05 PM ET

This winger's great season has been overshadowed by his teammates

Matthew Tkachuk is having a great season with 25 goals and 60 points in 63 games, but this has been largely overshadowed due to the dominance of the top line in Calgary. The Flames are in New Jersey to take on the Devils who are depleted with injuries and have also struggled as of late. The Flames have a 64.4 CF/60 which is the third-best in the NHL over the last month as well as having a strong 53.76 CF% which ranks fifth in the NHL over the same time period. Tkachuk is playing on the Flames second line with Mikael Backlund and Sam Bennett and while Tkachuk plays on the top power play unit without either of his even strength linemates, this is still a line worth stacking.

Andreas Johnsson

Pittsburgh Penguins
2/27/19, 2:05 PM ET

This rookie has had a fantastic season with a premium matchup tonight

Andreas Johnsson is tied for the league-lead among rookies since January 1st with 17 points. In addition, he is second in the NHL among rookies in points per game behind only Elias Pettersson. He’s playing with Auston Matthews and Kasperi Kapanen at even strength and this line has been dominant at times. In addition, he is playing on the top power play unit with Nazem Kadri on the shelf which gives him more upside as well. This full line stack is a great play against Edmonton at even strength and with his temporary spot on the top PP unit, there is plenty of upside.

Sam Gagner

Carolina Hurricanes
2/27/19, 12:02 PM ET

Offensive-minded Oiler looks to impress new linemates

The morning skate indicates Sam Gagner will lace the skates alongside Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the team’s top line. Gagner has been getting solid ice time over the last week in route to potting a pair of goals. While going into Toronto is no easy feat, the pace at which the Leafs play can make for some helter-skelter affairs. Gagner is minimally-priced across the industry and makes for a low-owned stack with McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, though be mindful that this line likely will not stick throughout the game, especially if the Oilers get down early.

Ondrej Palat

New Jersey Devils
2/27/19, 10:53 AM ET

Top line forward eyes big night in Big Apple

Ondrej Palat has not been particularly productive given his role on the top line and top power play for the National Hockey League’s best team, but it is a good time to buy low on Palat who checks in at just $4,100 on DraftKings. Ondrej is a nice source of salary relief to gain exposure to Tampa Bay’s top line and lethal number one power play unit. Palat serves more as a decoy on the top unit, but Tampa Bay should be good for a handful of goals against a rebuilding Rangers’ squad. Palat is viable in all formats.
