A goal in back to back games for punt winger
Zack Kassian is not a particularly good player, but he has shown some promise alongside Connor McDavid. Checking in at just $2,500 on DraftKings, Kassian is fine as a flyer on a two game slate. He has seven shots on goal over his last two games and draws an exploitable team in the Buffalo Sabres who have allowed the second-most goals per game after the All-Star break. Will Kassian make it three games in a row with a goal? Stay tuned!
Cheap top liner viable in all formats in dream matchup
Ondrej Palat has not been in the scoresheet much, but the matchup does not get any better than against the Ottawa Senators on the road. Palat still sees time on Tampa Bay’s tremendous top power play unit. Additionally, Palat skates with Steven Stamkos at even-strength. If there were ever a time for Palat to pick up a point or two, it would be tonight. Ondrej checks in at just $3,900 on DraftKings and provides the necessary salary relief to grab a stud or two. Tampa Bay can name the score tonight. Whether or not they are motivated to pour it on is up to them. Look for Palat to be more involved than usual.
Blue liner continues to chew minutes in absence of Letang
It has become redundant talking about Justin Schultz while Kris Letang is out, but again, he checks in around $4,500 on both DraftKings and FanDuel which makes him a cash game staple. The matchup is not great as Pittsburgh is on the road, but the Penguins could see Antti Niemi tonight. In any case, Schultz has picked up a goal and three assists over his last three games as he has seen at least 25 minutes in each contest. In a matchup with an up-tempo Montreal team, Schultz again seems like a good bet to find the scoresheet as skating on the Penguin’s top power play offers immense opportunity. There are a number of strong options on defense tonight, but Schultz is the best bang for your buck given the workload and cheap price tag.
Take a chance on this under the radar forward in the desert
Clayton Keller is featured here every once in a while as he has a lot of talent. His price tag on DraftKings ($4,400) really stands out on a slate so top heavy (Nikita Kucherov, Patrice Bergeron, etc.). Clayton Keller is riding a three game point streak for an Arizona team that has won six of their last seven contests. Meanwhile, the visitors, have dropped six consecutive games allowing 30 goals in the process. Arizona is not known for their offense, but they are playing well and Keller is a fantastic one-off in cash games and tournaments as he seems likely to extend his point streak to four games.
This line should dominate from puck drop
Boston’s top line has come alive again the past two games, posting a combined three goals, six assists and 16 shots on goal. Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and Danton Heinen will host New Jersey tonight, who is playing on the tail end of a back to back. The Devils gave up six goals last night to Philadelphia, and I expect that to carry over into tonight. The Devil’s have been plagued by injuries all season, and last night they added Kurtis Gabriel and Nathan Bastian to the list as they left the game early. Boston’s top line should have no problem controlling the game against New Jersey’s AHL like roster. Torey Krug is the power play defenseman you want to target with this stack.

Auston Matthews is always in play on home ice, as he generally draws the opponent’s weaker lines. Tonight Toronto welcomes Buffalo, who is playing their second game in as many nights. Matthews will be centering the young talent of Kasperi Kapanen, and Andreas Johnsson. Toronto has posted an impressive 66.27 CF/60 over the past two weeks, only behind Vegas in that time frame. With Toronto’s top line getting the task of shutting down Eichel, Matthews and company should have no problem finding the score sheet tonight.

Nikitia Kucherov, Brayden Point, and Tyler Johnson are in an excellent spot tonight, as well as the entire Tampa Bay Lightening roster. Tampa Bay has the highest projected goal total tonight at a whopping 4.64. Ottawa continued to be sellers at the recent trade deadline, and have now fired their head coach Guy Boucher. Since the trade deadline Ottawa has allowed 14.72 HDCA/60. Victor Hedman makes a nice addition to the stack, as he quarterbacks the team’s top power-play unit against an Ottawa team who has continued to be poor on the penalty kill.

If you believe in momentum then you have to like the Arizona Coyotes this evening. There, I said it…the Arizona Coyotes. I am already on record today as liking Nikita Kucherov and John Tavares and I could very well go with Vladimir Tarasenko or Patrice Bergeron to round things out but that won’t help you as there is no way you can fit all of those guys into your line-up. The Coyotes have somehow won their last five games and have gone 8-2 over that stretch. This effort has the team just one measly point away from making the playoffs. It also helps that the team is on home ice against a Detroit team that has given up a league leading 42 goals over the last 10 games. This means that the Coyotes have the last line change and with Galchenyuk and his 15 goals and 21 assists in 54 games now skating on the top line with Clayton Keller, both players could be in for a big game here. Galchenyuk is tied for the team lead with six points over the last seven games whole cranking up a team leading 25 shots on goal over that time frame.

Tavares is another guy that may be coming into this one with a chip on his shoulder especially after his team got boat-raced by the New York Islanders by a score of 6-1 on Thursday night in New York. To say that Tavares’ return to Long Island was cordial would be a stretch as the long-time Islander came up with five shots on goal but nothing to show for it. Tonight he and his line mates in Mitchell Marner and Zach Hyman are back on home ice where they take on a Buffalo team that is fresh off an emotional 4-3 overtime win against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. Tavares leads the team with 36 goals so thinking that he won’t get on the scoresheet against a tired Buffalo team may be a mistake here.

When talking about core plays I try to deviate from the very best players to give you another angle on how to get more money in your bankroll. I can’t do that with Nikita Kucherov today. Yes, I know he is leading the league in scoring with 74 assists and 104 points but if you aren’t on him today you just may lose. There are a few reasons for this as not only is Tampa coming in after a humbling 4-1 loss at Boston but the Senators come in as the most decimated team in the league after the trading deadline. If you still think that his salary isn’t worth paying up for then I’d take a look at the five times that he has put up three or more points over the team’s last game. With the Lightning being favored at -400 even Vegas thinks this will be a blowout. Even if it isn’t I’d expect the Lightning to put up a lot of goals tonight in which the Senators would have to match. Brayden Point and Tyler Johnson are his line mates on the top line but really and Lightning player is in play this evening. Again, it’s easy to say that the best player in the league will score this evening but we may get way more than that out of Kucherov this evening.

Nino Niederreiter has 9 goals in 17 games with the Carolina Hurricanes. He had 9 goals in 46 games on the Minnesota Wild this season. Clearly this change of scenery for Niederreiter has been incredible and playing alongside Sebastian Aho and Justin Williams has been a career-rejuvenater. As with the other two lines I’ve written about today, this entire line play on the top power play which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside. They are hosting the St. Louis Blues who are rolling out Jake Allen who has well-publicized struggles and his 2.95 GAA and .902 SV% back up those critics.

With 22 goals and 59 points in 64 games, Max Domi has been quite the success in Montreal. Coming over in a trade in the summer, there was a lot of uncertainty with Domi but he has quieted many of his critics. His wingers will be Andrew Shaw — fresh off a hat-trick — and Jonathan Drouin, who is in his second season with the Montreal Canadiens. Much like the Nashville Predators top line, this line has elite upside and full-game correlation as the entire line remains in-tact on the to Habs top power play unit. Montreal leads the NHL with a 66.14 CF/60 over the last month and have the second best CF% with a 54.58 rate. They have been a dominant possession team and a game against the New York Rangers should not slow them down.
Other tagged players: Andrew Shaw, Jonathan DrouinThis young winger has become one of the most underrated snipers in the game
Viktor Arvidsson has 26 goals in 42 games which is pretty incredible. Now, his shooting percentage is higher than normal at 18.4 percent this season compared to his 12.0 percent career average. Arvidsson also only has 9 assists so this goal to assist ratio is pretty crazy that is unlikely to continue in the upcoming seasons. However, that doesn’t discount just how dominant he has been this season. He’s played most of the season with Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg on the Nashville Predators and will continue to do so tonight. The upside in this line stack is that they all play on the same power play unit which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside.

Jesper Bratt was not in action during the Devils’ last two games, but he will rejoin the lineup tonight on the top line alongside Nico Hischier. While the generally useless Drew Stafford is expected to slot in on the top line as well, Bratt is someone who can generate offense on his own. In February alone he sported a team-best 59.15 CF/60 at 5-on-5. Linemate Nico Hischier had a strong 55.88 CF/60 at 5-on-5 as well, so they can form a nice 1-2 punch. With New Jersey hurting for bodies as Marcus Johansson is in Boston and Kyle Palmieri is out indefinitely, someone will have to step up. Bratt seems like the likely candidate as the Swedish forward has 11 points (3G, 8A) in 12 games after the All-Star break. In what amounts to a tough spot for the Flyers after their Stadium Series comeback against the Penguins along with last night’s overtime loss in Columbus, New Jersey offers some salary relief in a sneaky matchup. Bratt makes for a low-owned tournament play.
Trigger-happy defenseman is riding three game point streak
While Brent Burns blows everyone out of the water night in and night out on defense, if looking for salary relief, take a look at teammate Tim Heed who has six shots on goal over his last three games. During this stretch, the offensive-minded defenseman has a goal and two assists. Given that Colorado cannot stay out of the penalty box, Heed could be in for a nice game as he will see power play time with Erik Karlsson on the bench once again. Heed is the bare-minimum on FanDuel ($3,500) and an attractive $2,800 on DraftKings which really opens things up. Look for Heed to take a couple shots on goal and perhaps find the scoresheet for the fourth consecutive game in this high-event matchup with the Avalanche.
