This winger has become unstoppable
It’s a four-game slate and the Tampa Bay Lightning are taking on a Washington Capitals team that is on the tail-end of a back to back. It’s difficult to ignore the best offensive player in hockey this season. Nikita Kucherov is lapping the field with a 12-point lead in the Art Ross race. Additionally, he has a 13-assist lead and an 8-point lead in power play points. His offensive dominance has been fascinating this season and center Brayden Point has been along for the ride. Don’t get me wrong, Point is an incredible talent, and the two of them definitely play off each other, but I don’t think Point is putting up 38 goals, 87 points — 33 with the man advantage — without playing with Kucherov.

This is about as good of a matchup as one can have as the Vancouver Canucks host the disastrous Ottawa Senators. Over the last month, the Senators have the 25th ranked CF% with a 45.95 rate. Additionally, they’ve given up a 63.50 CA/60 which is the third-worst over that stretch. Over the last month — 13 games — the Senators have allowed 4.23 goals against per game which bodes well for the Canucks. Elias Pettersson is centering Josh Leivo and Brock Boeser and this line makes for a very intriguing stack as they are all on the top power play unit. This gives the line full-game correlation and elite upside as a result.

The Washington Capitals have a pretty elite matchup against the struggling New Jersey Devils. Over the last month, the Devils have a putrid 44.93 CF% which ranks 29th in the NHL over that time frame. On the flip side, the Capitals have the fourth best CF% with a 54.89 rate and the fifth best 63.82 CF/60 in the last month. Alex Ovechkin is two goals away from his 8th career 50-goal season and playing alongside Egveny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson at even strength against the Devils is a premium matchup. Ovy and Kuz make for an interesting mini-stack as the two play together on the top power play unit while Wilson is relegated to PP2.

Over the last 10 games, it has been Teuvo Teravainen leading the way in points for the Carolina Hurricanes. His 12 points — 11 of them being assists — has been a bit of a relief off of the shoulders of Sebastian Aho who has been carrying the load for the most part. Teravainen has been playing with the returning Jordal Staal and rookie Andrei Svechnikov over the last 10 games since Staal’s return. Teravainen is playing on the top power play unit while Staal and Svech play on the second unit which is a bit discouraging but this line is still a solid even strength line worth stacking.

Aleksander Barkov is second to only Nikita Kucherov in points since February 1st. His 36 points in 24 games is an incredible pace and his 13 goals over the same time period is tied for second in the NHL. The Florida Panthers visit the Dallas Stars tonight, a team that has given up 62.78 CA/60 over the last month. Barkov and linemates Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov make for an elite line stack as they remain together on the top power play unit. Their PP has been elite this season as they have converted 26.8 percent of their opportunities — second best in the NHL.

Ryan Strome has quietly collected 13 points (6G, 7A) in 22 games after the All-Star break which matches his total (13 points) in 48 games before the All-Star break. At the time of writing this, it appears Strome will move to wing on the top line alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. At just $3,300 on DraftKings, Strome is an interesting tournament target in an exploitable matchup against a poor Detroit defense which has allowed 3.60 goals per game on the road and the second-most goals per game (3.57 GA/G) overall after the All-Star break. Take a chance on Strome.
Affordable goalie has big upside on home ice
Robin Lehner checks in at $7,800 on DraftKings and $8,100 on FanDuel in the game with the lowest total of the evening. Though it is considered a coin flip game by the experts and David Pastrnak could return for Boston tonight, it is tough to overlook the Islanders’ defensive prowess this season. Robin Lehner is winless in two starts against the Bruins this season, but he has allowed only three goals on 62 shots for a 1.45 GAA and .952 SV%. Additionally, Lehner’s .933 SV% at even-strength is sixth-best in the National Hockey League. While the Bruins are tough to defeat, it is not because of their offense which is tied for Buffalo for the worst mark on the road (2.47 GF/G) in the Eastern Conference. Lehner has big save upside in a game that should have a playoff feel.
Talented rookie heating up for surging Hurricanes
Matt Murray has allowed just three goals on 70 shots in two starts against the Hurricanes this season, but tonight is a good chance to roll out Carolina’s talented rookie Andrei Svechnikov who has three goals over his last three games. Last Monday, Svechnikov erupted in Colorado for a three point game. While Svechnikov and the Staal line will likely get a bulk of their ice time against Sidney Crosby, Svechnikov’s price across the industry is attractive as his talent is massive. In what could be a flat spot for the Penguins after their defeat to the Flyers, Andrei and Carolina can take advantage on home ice.
This winger is showing that his rookie season was no fluke
Sophomore slump? Not for Alex DeBrincat. He has been absolutely dominant this season with 38 goals and 71 points in 71 games this season. He has solidified the second line to give the Chicago Blackhawks two players in himself and Patrick Kane that can carry a line and allow the Blackhawks to have a surprising top sixth depth that was unexpected coming into the season. Playing alongside mid-season acquisitions in Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini, this line was formed over the last few weeks and has been fantastic ever since. A matchup against the Vancouver Canucks who are on the tail-end of a back-to-back is a great one.

Obviously all of the attention this season is on Nikita Kucherov completely dominating the Art Ross race. The second biggest story on the Lightning is the continual breakout of Brayden Point. And then we have Steven Stamkos who is still having an elite season with 35 goals and 81 points in 72 games. He’s been incredible and nobody is talking about it because of the rest of the team’s success. His linemates are considerably cheaper than Kucherov’s which makes this line stack with J.T. Miller and Ondrej Palat an interesting pivot in tournaments.

Before the season, not many would have predict Tomas Hertl being second on the San Jose Sharks in goals and tied for second in points at this point in the season. Well, he is, and his current linemates are also the best he’s had. He’s centering the Sharks second line with Evander Kane and Gustav Nyquist and they could have a very good matchup tonight as Marc-Andre Fleury did not travel with the team which means they will take on Malcolm Subban on a back-to-back or Maxime Legace.

The Kings are a poor team, but if looking for a cheap, contrarian forward, have a look at Dustin Brown who has four goals and two assists in seven March contests. Last time out, Brown buried a goal and an assist in 20 minutes of ice time. While the Jets are a good team, a majority of their results have come on home ice. On the road, they sit just above .500. A closer look at the Jets reveals they have allowed the fourth-most scoring chances against per 60 minutes (32.60 SCA/60) at 5-on-5 on the road since the All-Star break. Even on a small slate, someone like Dustin Brown will see minuscule ownership.
Canuck winger scored the only shootout goal last night
Last night, th eCanucks survived an onslaught from Dallas who put up 40-plus shots. After Jacob Markstrom denied Tyler Seguin, Alexander Radulov, Jamie Benn and Roope Hintz, Leivo came down the ice and buried the game-winning goal in the shootout. Leivo continues to soak up minutes this month, logging over 18 minutes of ice time. In two meetings with the Blackhawks earlier this season, Leivo potted a goal and two assists in under 14 minutes of ice time. Although Vancouver is playing on consecutive nights, Chicago is one of the best matchups in the league. If there is any sort of regression from the Blackhawks’ goaltending tonight, Leivo and Vancovuer could flourish.
Top liner offers some much needed salary relief
Even with Tampa Bay scoring goals for fun, J.T. Miller has not been involved. Over his last eight games, Miller has a mere assist. Arizona is not the easiest of matchups either, but on a four game slate, Miller is a cheap way to gain exposure to Tampa Bay’s offense and top power play unit. With a price tag around $4,000 across the industry, J.T. enters the conversation in all formats. Add Steven Stamkos and Ondrej Palat for a cheap, lesser-owned stack than Tampa Bay’s popular second line.
This line stack may come under-owned
Brendan Gallagher, Phillip Danault, and Tomas Tatar have looked great together since being reunited on the top line. Gallagher has continued to fire the on net at a torrid pace, with 16 shots on goal in his past four games. I expect this loaded up top line to generate plenty of chances against a Chicago team that has struggled all year keeping the puck out of their net. Adding power-play quarterback Shea Weber is my preferred correlation play at defense.
