Fanball NFL Auction: Week 6 - Friday, October 12th

Hey everyone, welcome to the Fanball NFL Auction breakdown. If you haven’t played on this site before, it’s a product unlike anything you’ve ever seen before in DFS. They will be offering an Auction-style format drafting with four players on the board at all times, meaning you have to be on your toes and be aware of what is going on, because split-second mistakes can be costly.

Each team must draft 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 TE. No player can be left on the board at the end of the draft, so if you are the last player not to draft a TE, then when the last TE goes on the board you will auto-draft them for $1.

There are four players up for auction at all times, so you need to be able to adlib on the fly if someone goes drastically over or under what you are projecting to pay for them. You can find the full scoring system for Fanball NFL here.

Friday, October 12th

Quarterback

Matt Ryan – $9
Kirk Cousins – $7
Jared Goff – $6
Jameis Winston – $6
Philip Rivers – $1
Baker Mayfield – $1

QB is the simplest position today. There is no real clear cut number one QB, although Ryan leads the pack by a bit. Every other position has some clear upgrades and some clear downgrades with a drastic difference between the number one spot and the last spot. Honestly, if you have a drastic preference for any single QB then, by all means, you should probably go for that guy and bid as high as $10, but my plan is to bid $2-$3 on any of the top four QBs and see if I can get them at a discount.

Running Back

Todd Gurley – $34
Ezekiel Elliott – $23
T.J. Yeldon – $22
James White – $22
Tevin Coleman – $18
Kareem Hunt – $16
Marshawn Lynch – $8
Bilal Powell – $4
LeSean McCoy – $4
Kenyan Drake – $4
Tarik Cohen – $4
Latavius Murray – $1

So, the running back position has some drastic differences at all levels. I’m going to dissect it in large detail considering it can make or break your draft.

Todd Gurley – Paying up for Gurley can make or break your draft here. He is clearly the best play on the entire slate, but you should not bank on drafting Gurley if he comes in late in the draft. I’ve already had several drafts today where I waited until the end with 80% of my bankroll to pay for Gurley only to be stuck with $40 left over at the end because I was out-bid. If he comes up early then bet the bank on him, but have some contingency plans in place in case you get outbid.

Elliott, Yeldon, White, Coleman, Hunt – This next tier is where you can find a decent amount of value. With so many people trying to bid on Gurley, you are probably going to be able to get most of these guys at a drastic discount. All these backs are much better plays than the rest of the RBs on the board. My top strategy today is to get two of these guys on my team and let other people blow their bankroll on Gurley

Powell, McCoy, Drake, Cohen – I view all these guys as way better plays than Latavius. If you pay up for WR, then make sure you get one of these guys in your lineup earlier on so you don’t get stuck with Murray.

Latavius Murray – Avoid at all costs. If someone actually bids $1 on him early, you can just ignore your RB2 slot if you want knowing you are going to end up with a decent one for $1.

Wide Receiver

Julio Jones – $24
Adam Thielen – $19
Deandre Hopkins – $18
Stefon Diggs – $12
Robert Woods – $12
Julian Edelman – $12
Jarvis Landry – $12
Emmanuel Sanders – $4
Doug Baldwin – $1
Tyler Lockett – $1
Chris Godwin – $1
Kenny Stills – $1

Jones, Thielen, Hopkins – These three WRs clearly stand heads above the rest on the board here. If none of these guys come up on the board early and people spend their money too early, know that you can get them at a drastic discount later on in the draft. If they come up early and get bid up too high, then know you can likely get some of the top end running backs at a discount.

Diggs, Woods, Edelman, Landr y-I don’t have a big preference on any of these WRs, so my plan is to simply roll with whichever of these guys I can get at a big discount during the draft for my WR2. If you have a preference on any of these guys, you can reach for them, but my suggestion is you take the guy that you can get the cheapest

Sanders, Baldwin, Lockett, Godwin, Stills – I’m not paying more than $1 for any of these guys with the exception of Sanders. If you like any of these WRs more than the rest, you can bid on them early, but my suggestion is to wait until the end and hope you don’t get stuck with one.

Tight End

Rob Gronkowski – $17
Jared Cook – $12
Jordan Reed – $11
Kyle Rudolph – $6
Austin Hooper – $7
Charles Clay – $1

To me, there isn’t a drastic difference between any of the TEs today with the exception of Gronk. I think that the smart move is to just try to avoid Clay at all costs here and try to see if you can get a better TE for $1-$3 early on or hope that someone bids $1 for Clay early on where you can just get the last remaining TE for $1 at the end of the draft. If you really have a big preference, then, by all means, bid one of these TEs up, but chances are you can get a slightly worse one at a discount.

Thanks for reading guys. Just a quick reminder that you should always be willing and able to adjust on the fly here with this auction draft format, and don’t leave money on the board if possible.
