Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.368 (Rank: 1) — Strikeout Rate: 14.7% (Rank: 1)
Pitchers per PA: 3.71 (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Banuelos was terrific in his major league debut, striking out seven batters in five and two-thirds scoreless innings of work. He was once considered a top prospect and after years in the minor leagues, he’s finally getting his chance in the majors. While his first start was promising, I need to see more than one good outing before I become a believer. If he can put up a similar outing against the red-hot Brewers tonight, then he’ll have my attention.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.273 (Rank: 27) — Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 11)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Cravy is also making his second career major league start tonight. In 14 minor league starts this season, he has posted a 4.03 FIP with a strikeout rate of 20.3%. He draws a decent matchup against the Braves, although they do have the third-lowest strikeout rate (17.0%) of any team against right-handed pitching this season. Cravy is not on my radar tonight in cash games or tournaments.

Atlanta
The Braves’ offense came alive in last night’s win over the Brewers. Miller Park is a much better hitter’s park than Turner Field and we should see a decent series from them offensively, especially against this weak starting rotation. Tyler Cravy is a young right-hander that is only making his second career major league start. Target the left-handed bats in the Braves’ lineup tonight.

It will be interesting to see what type of encore Manny Banuelos puts on tonight, after pitching very well in his major league debut. I’m siding with the Brewers’ offense in this one, as they have the highest team wOBA in baseball over the last 14 days. The right-handed bats in this lineup are the preferred targets against the young lefty.

Analysis: Doubront will get the start for the Blue Jays tonight. He was one of the most hittable pitchers in baseball last season, posting a 4.80 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 13.9%. Even though the White Sox are ranked dead last in wOBA (.255) against left-handed pitching, Doubront should be avoided in all league formats.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.334 (Rank: 6) — Strikeout Rate: 17.1% (Rank: 4)
Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 14)
Analysis: Quintana hasn’t been as sharp in his recent outings, posting a 3.89 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 17.4%. He typically has great command and a good strikeout rate for a pitcher at his price point, but he’s a tough sell against the Blue Jays. On the season, Toronto is ranked first in wOBA (.377) and second in strikeout rate (16.8%) against left-handed pitching. The risk outweighs the potential reward for Quintana tonight.

Toronto
The Blue Jays are the best offense in baseball against left-handed pitching. They have a lineup full of right-handed power bats that really make it tough on southpaws from hitters one through nine. Jose Quintana is a quality left-handed pitcher, but the right-handed bats of Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista, and Chris Colabello are all in play.

Even though the White are small underdogs in this one, they are one of my favorite contrarian offenses to target. Felix Doubront gave up a .354+ wOBA to left and right-handed hitters last season and the White Sox are playing at home in the hitter-friendly U.S. Cellular Field.

Analysis: Gausman is coming off of one of his best starts in his career. He struck out seven batters over six and one-third innings against the Rangers. He threw 95 pitches in that start, so a pitch count is not a concern. He has always had electric stuff, but he’s never been able to turn that into an elite strikeout rate. He makes sense as a sleeper play tonight in tournaments, as he faces a Twins’ offense that is ranked 23rd in wOBA (.298) and 20th in strikeout rate (20.1%) against right-handed pitching this season.

Analysis: Gibson has pitched well in his recent starts, posting a 3.23 SIERA with an uncharacteristically high strikeout rate of 22.0%. He is generating a decent 8.6% swinging strike rate, so we could see him hold a strikeout rate of around 20% moving forward. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Orioles, but the strikeout potential is there. Unfortunately, I’m not buying in quite yet. Like Kevin Gausman, he is a deep tournament play at best tonight.

Over the last month, he has a 4.20 SIERA with strikeout rate of 18.3%. The problem is that he is pitching in Coors Field. He can safely be avoided against the Angels, who have the highest team total on the board.

As mentioned above, the Angels are projected to score the most runs of any team on the schedule tonight. The Rockies are one of the best hitting teams in all of baseball when they are playing at home. Coors Field is a hitter’s paradise and we can expect there to be plenty of fireworks in this one. Analysis: Ryan has not pitched well in his short time in the majors, posting a 4.76 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 12.0%. He draws a favorable matchup against the Mariners, but that’s not enough to overlook his low strikeout potential. He is a large underdog tonight on the road and he can safely be avoided in all league formats.

Analysis: Despite being dominant in the last month, there is very little buzz around Walker tonight and I’m not exactly sure why. He has a 2.47 SIERA with an elite strikeout rate of 28.4% over the last 30 days. He also gets to face a Miguel Cabrera-less Tigers’ offense at home in a fairly pitcher-friendly ballpark. Walker is one of the largest favorites on the board and the Tigers have one of the lowest team totals. I will continue to buy low on Walker until his price matches his recent level of production.

Detroit
The Tigers had a big outing against Hisashi Iwakuma and the Mariners last night, but they are still missing their offensive anchor in Miguel Cabrera. They have a low team total tonight and they draw a difficult matchup against Taijuan Walker, who comes into tonight’s game with great form. J.D. Martinez and Victor Martinez are both secondary options.

Seattle
The Mariners draw a favorable matchup tonight against Kyle Ryan, who has given up a .330+ wOBA to hitters from both sides of the plate. The Mariners may not hit left-handed pitching well as a whole, but they do have a couple of hitters that excel against southpaws.
