Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.343 (Rank: 6) — Strikeout Rate: 19.6% (Rank: 17)
Pitchers per PA: 3.76 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Even though Sale has been absolutely dominate in his recent starts (1.29 SIERA with a 45.3% strikeout rate), something tells me that he is going to get overlooked a bit tonight. Pitchers are typically avoided against St. Louis and while that’s a viable strategy for right-handers, it doesn’t apply to southpaws. The Cardinals are actually ranked 24th in wOBA (.299) and 27th in strikeout rate (24.0%) against left-handed pitching this season. I’ll take a dominant Sale against a depleted Cardinals’ lineup any day of the week.
Pitcher Rating:93.3
Lance Lynn : FD: $9,100 — DK: $10,000

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.295 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 17.5% (Rank: 7)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 22)
Analysis: Lynn has pitched well since returning from injury, posting a 3.84 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 21.6%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the White Sox, although they have a much lower strikeout rate than most people think. Lynn makes sense as a tournament play here, but run support is a big issue with Chris Sale pitching opposite him.

This is expected to be a pitcher’s duel. The total for the game is set at only 6.5 runs and both offenses struggle against the handedness of the pitcher that they are facing. All position players should be avoided in this one.

Analysis: De La Rosa is having a nice season, but he runs into the worst matchup on the board tonight. The Dodgers are ranked first in wOBA (.341) against right-handed pitching this season. De La Rosa has really struggled against left-handed hitters over the past two seasons and the Dodgers’ lineup is chock full of talented lefties.

Analysis: De La Rosa has not been sharp in his recent starts, posting a 4.56 SIERA with a walk rate of 12.5% over the last month. The A’s were a team that we could pick on with left-handed pitchers earlier in the season, but that is no longer the case. Analysis: If you are tired of getting burned by aces and want to take the safest route possible at pitcher tonight, let me introduce you to Mr. Gray. He is the largest favorite on the board (it’s not even close) and he comes into tonight’s game in great form. The Rockies may rank high in team wOBA on the season, but a lot of that is due to the fact that they play half of their games at Coors Field. They are actually ranked 19th in wOBA in road games.

As mentioned above, the A’s have been skyrocketing up the rankings of team wOBA against left-handed pitching. A healthy Ben Zobrist and Brett Lawrie certainly helps. He is one of the Angels top prospects and if he pitches well, he could stick around in the rotation. He’s a pitcher to keep your eye on moving forward, but he should be avoided tonight against the Yankees who are ranked fourth in wOBA (.328) against left-handed pitching and first in wOBA (.372) over the last 14 days.

Analysis: Montgomery is coming off of his best pro start. He struck out ten batters in a complete game shutout against the Royals of all teams. His ERA is a full two runs lower than his SIERA, so we can expect some regression, but that doesn’t mean that it will happen in a single game. He draws a favorable matchup against a strikeout-prone Padres’ offense and he gets to face them in Petco Park. At his price point, he’s an appealing tournament option.

Analysis: Kennedy has pitched well over the last month, posting a 3.48 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.0%. He has a good track record at Petco Park and he draws a terrific matchup tonight against the Mariners. On the season, Seattle is ranked 27th in both wOBA (.288) and strikeout rate (22.5%) against right-handed pitching. Kennedy offers terrific upside at his price point and he is in play for tournaments and as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

Seattle
The Mariners’ offense continues to put up dud performance after dud performance. They can safely be avoided tonight against Ian Kennedy in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

Even though Mike Montgomery has held right-handed hitters to a .216 wOBA this season, the sample size is still very small. If you are targeting any batters from the Padres tonight, the right-handed hitters are the preferred targets. Derek Norris, Justin Upton, and Matt Kemp all have an extensive history of mashing southpaws.
