Ottawa is another team much like Montreal in the fact that they have a bad record and like to split up their talent seven ways to Sunday. They won’t have to worry about that today as both Mark Stone and Bobby Ryan will not suit up this afternoon due to injuries. This leaves the Senators a bit short-handed as Stone leads the team with 44 points while Ryan has chipped in 20 of his own in just 39 games. This leaves Mike Hoffman to be the top dog and skate on the top line with Matt Duchene and Colin White while Ryan Dzingel, Derick Brassard and Chris DiDomenico will skate as the second line. Ottawa has scored just 10 goals in their last seven games so if you are looking for low ownership in a GPP tournament any of those two lines will more than likely fit the bill. Even defenseman Erik Karlsson can’t help this sorry bunch of players much as he has registered just two of his 34 points over the last six games which is the same amount of points that Dion Phaneuf has scored over that same time frame. Pass on the Senators in your cash game action today.
The Flyers will be playing in their third game in four days but I wouldn’t expect them to have a problem against a team like Ottawa. The only problem that may arise is that if they think their recent run of good hockey playing doesn’t need to be applied this afternoon against one of the weakest teams in the league. Travis Konecny has flourished since moving up to the top line to play beside both Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier. The Flyers have been looking high and low for someone to be a compliment to Giroux and they have probably found a decent combination in both Couturier and Konecny. Giroux and Couturier have been point-per-game players so far this season and they should be the ones to target here as they skate on the team’s top power play line. Wayne Simmonds has finally been pulled up from the third line to skate with Jakub Voracek and Nolan Patrick. This maneuver may also benefit the younger Patrick as he was able to grab two points in the Flyers 5-3 win against Washington on Wednesday. Voracek is also having a decent season as he and Simmonds also skate on the top unit when the Flyers have the extra attacker. Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere anchors the team’s top power play unit and is also in play here but if you are looking for an alternative Ivan Provorov is the guy you want. Provorov has been out producing Gostisbehere by a 12-4 margin since the beginning of the year.
