When the Edmonton Oilers got a taste of what Connor McDavid could do for the team’s scoring totals I am sure that they didn’t have a clue as to what would happen next. The Oilers 35 goals are the worst in the league which is part of the reason why they are in seventh place in the Pacific Division. McDavid has been in on more than half of those goals as he has registered six goals and 12 assists which lead the team in both categories. Patrick Maroon and Leon Draisaitl almost have to stay on the top line with him as they cannot help out any other line by themselves. Draisaitl has recorded 12 points and Maroon has found the score sheet 10 times this season and will surely be blanketed by the best defensive line that the Rangers have here in Madison Square Garden this afternoon. This should open the door to use Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as a one-off here as he is on the second line with Milan Lucic and has grabbed six points in the last six games. The Oilers now use two power play units almost equally so just because he is on the second unit shouldn’t worry you much here. Edmonton has a few defensemen that can be serviceable at times as Kris Russell leads the group with five points while Oscar Klefbom has only three points but is tied with McDavid for 50 shots on goal. The Oilers are already 2-0 on this four game road trip and will need the top line to do the damage if they want to have their first three game winning streak of the new season.

Thanks to their current five game winning streak the Blueshirts are now knocking on the door for third place in the Metropolitan Divison with a record of 8-7-2. The top line of Mika Zibanejad, Pavel Buchnevich and Chris Kreider is the chalk play here as they have grabbed nine goals and 11 assists over the last six games. They also see the extra time on the top power play unit that has struck for seven goals in their last 20 opportunities. Zibanejad paces the team with eight goals and 18 points through the first 17 games. Kevin Hayes centers the second line along with Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello while David Desharnais has Jimmy Vesey and J.T. Miller as his line mates. Miller leads the team with 12 assists and makes for an ice one-off play here. On the back line Kevin Shattenkirk is the dead chalk as his five goals and 11 assists is good enough for second on the team while Ryan McDonagh and his 11 points is tied with Zuccarello for fifth place on the team. Look for the Rangers to handle the one-line Oilers tonight in front of the home crowd.
