David Fletcher

Atlanta Braves
8/13/18, 2:34 PM ET

Another Cheap Hitter Towards The Top Of The Order

David Fletcher has 73 PAs against lefties this season, and he has a .109 ISO with a .265 wOBA. That’s nothing special, I agree. With that said, he has a very low strikeout rate and a high contact rate, and his soft contact rate is only 15.5%. Fletcher should hit second in an offense that’s projected to score a good amount of runs tonight. Clayton Richard has a .347 wOBA with a .176 ISO and a 43.6% hard-hit rate against righties this season. He does get a lot of groundballs but he’s not a very high strikeout pitcher. Expect a lot of contact in this matchup, and at this price, I’m willing to take a shot on him.

Nicky Delmonico

Chicago White Sox
8/13/18, 2:35 PM ET

Nice Value Hitting Leadoff

Nicky Delmonico has been hit or miss this season, but he’s extremely cheap in a good matchup tonight and he should hit leadoff. Since the start of 2017, Lewicki has a .395 wOBA with a .174 ISO against left-handed hitters. While that’s a great starting place, I like to dig into the batted ball stuff here. He uses his slider 24% of the time against left-handed hitters, and that’s the pitch that Delmonico has hit well since being called up. With the inability to miss bats with his fastball, Lewicki is certainly someone to pick on tonight. He has a 12.5% strikeout rate with a 39.5% hard-hit rate against lefties in that span.

Daniel Descalso

Chicago Cubs
8/13/18, 11:17 AM ET

Just Too Cheap

The FanDuel salary on Daniel Descalso makes it tough to not just be all-in on Arizona tonight. After spending on guys like Goldschmidt, Peralta, Pollock and Escobar or maybe the top Cleveland bats, we’ll need something cheap, and we can just stick right with the top offense on the slate without sacrificing upside. Descalso has a .202 ISO and .366 wOBA against right-handed pitching and hits the ball in the air with 46% fly balls and 39% hard hits.

David Peralta

The hitting is heavily skewed towards two spots tonight with the Diamondbacks in Texas against Bartolo Colon and the Indians in Cincinnati against Homer Bailey. The salaries of the top bats lead Arizona to the top of the list, and which bats to focus on will depend on the salaries and your positional needs. On FanDuel, David Peralta is the top bat at a discount, coming in at just $3,700 with his team best 50% hard hit rate against right-handed pitching. He should bat at the top of the lineup, and with his .409 wOBA, he has both individaul power upside and all kinds of run scoring potential with the big bats coming up behind him.

Marco Gonzales

San Diego Padres
8/13/18, 11:26 AM ET

Projected To Face Nine Right-Handed Hitters Tonight

Marco Gonzales is right between the top tier and the bottom tier tonight, and I really like the value he brings to the table in this matchup. He’s projected to face nine right-handed hitters, and he’s been very good against righties this season. Gonzales has a .301 wOBA with a .144 ISO and a 22.7% strikeout rate, while still posting a 4.8% walk rate and a 46.1% ground ball rate. He dominated this team in Oakland last time he faced them, and I wouldn’t be shocked if it happens again tonight. While there are some strong power hitters in this lineup, there are a lot of strikeouts in this lineup as well. The projected starters have a .172 ISO with a 24% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season.

The salaries of the top bats lead Arizona to the top of the list, and which bats to focus on will depend on the salaries and your positional needs. On DK, Eduardo Escobar has dual position eligibility and a salary well below David Peralta. Escobar leads the team with a .299 ISO against right-handed pitching and is the fourth straight bat in this lineup with a hard hit rate above 40%, which will make life tough on Colon tonight. Escobar also has the switch hitting edge when they get into the bullpen.

Paul Goldschmidt

New York Yankees

Don't Overthink It

The hitting is heavily skewed towards two spots tonight with the Diamondbacks in Texas against Bartolo Colon and the Indians in Cincinnati against Homer Bailey. The salaries of the top bats lead Arizona to the top of the list, with Paul Goldschmidt leading the charge. Colon throws hittable strikes and lets them get hit hard, simply hoping they get caught, or at least not all the hits come back-to-back. But there is nothing he can do to get past a hitter like Goldschmidt with his 46% hard hit rate, 26% line drives, .236 ISO and .389 wOBA. The only thing that is a slight flaw in Goldy’s game against right-handed pitching is his 27.4% strikeouts, and strikeouts are the thing that Colon is least capable of.

Jacob deGrom

Texas Rangers
8/13/18, 11:04 AM ET

They Are All Good, He Is Better

This pitching heavy slate starts with a battle of aces in New York. We need to keep an eye on the weather here, but if this game plays clean, it’s hard not to love both pitchers. The matchup is obviously a difficult one for deGrom, but he’s just simply better than everyone else. He has a remarkable 19 straight starts allowing three runs or less, and along with 30% strikeouts and low walks to both right and left-handed batters, he has the 2nd highest soft contact rate in the league. It’s a flawless skill set, and overrides the matchup for me tonight.

Sean Reid-Foley

Atlanta Braves
8/13/18, 11:27 AM ET

Start Off On The Right Foot

It’s always tough playing and trusting a pitcher making his Major League debut, but it helps when they face a weak offense. Sean Reid-Foley has posted great numbers in AAA this season with the Blue Jays, as he has a 3.30 xFIP with a 1.15 WHIP and a 27.4% strikeout rate in 82.1 innings. The projected starters for the Royals have a .144 ISO with a .296 wOBA and a 21.9% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. They’re one of the weakest offenses in baseball, so this is a plus matchup for the young righty. He’s a great value option tonight, but I’d expect him to be popular with all the great hitting options we have available.

Andrew Heaney

Los Angeles Dodgers
8/13/18, 11:01 AM ET

The Mid-Range Play

This slate is loaded with pitching options, and we have choices in every pricing tier. The guy who sticks out in the mid-range is Andrew Heaney going into San Diego. There is some risk from a few right-handed power bats, but Heaney’s outstanding control and ability to pitch deep into games, couples with the Padres high strikeouts give him a nice combination of floor and ceiling at this salary. I don’t see anyone as all-in pitcher tonight, but Heaney is the piece that can fit into most lineup builds on all sites in all formats tonight.

Andrelton Simmons

Andrelton Simmons scratched Sunday; Jose Miguel Fernandez replaces

Simmons has been scratched from the Los Angeles Angels original confirmed lineup and will not start in Sunday’s matchup against the Oakland Athletics due to a presently unspecified reason. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Jose Miguel Fernandez, who will play third base and slot directly into Simmons’ vacated fifth spot in the order, which slides David Fletcher over to shortstop and Kaleb Cowart over to second base defensively, respectively. However, the remainder of the Angels lineup will stay intact as they face off against right-hander Trevor Cahill at home this afternoon.

Luke Weaver

Luke Weaver (finger) scratched Sunday; Tyson Ross will start in his place

Weaver is dealing with a laceration on his finger on his pitching hand, and he will consequentially not make his scheduled start for the St. Louis Cardinals in Sunday’s road matchup against the Kansas City Royals due to the aforementioned finger ailment. He’ll be replaced on the mound by Tyson Ross, who will make his Cardinals debut and, like Weaver, is a right-handed pitcher, so his presence on the bump won’t alter the projected lineup of the Royals hitters in any significant fashion, though the Kansas City bats weren’t likely to be heavily targeted options in today’s daily fantasy contests, to begin with. That said, still be sure to double check out the projections in LineupHQ for any notable changes prior to submitting lineups for this afternoon’s main slate.

Marcell Ozuna

Pittsburgh Pirates
8/12/18, 11:08 AM ET

Grab Some Savings

On DK/FDRFT today, it’s all about finding a few cheap bats in order to squeeze in as many of the big boppers as possible. Marcell Ozuna’s ISO and wOBA against right-handed pitching look ugly, but the guy is hitting the ball hard and things have been turning around with six multi-hit games in the last two weeks and a lineup spot that leaves him with both run scoring and RBI upside. He has struck out just 9.8% over the past month along with 43% hard hits. That is a combo of skills that is going to do him a lot of favors over the long-term.

Mitch Moreland

Athletics
8/12/18, 11:01 AM ET

The Other Top Offense

On FanDuel, with no Coors Field on the main slate, it’s a three-team race to the top with the Yankees, Indians and Red Sox. Like with Alonso for the Indians, Mitch Moreland gives you affordable access to the middle of the lineup, with plenty of power upside on his own as well as the added RBI opportunities from his team context. Alex Cobb loses his ground ball ability against left-handed batters, leaving Moreland and his .237 ISO with plenty of extra base hit upside in this ballpark against a hittable pitcher with low strikeouts.

Yonder Alonso

Atlanta Braves
8/12/18, 12:03 PM ET

Go Back Here Today

You need to have a short memory and be willing to forgive guys for having a bad night. Alonso disappointed last night, but he’s going to hit in the middle of the lineup for one of the top offenses on the slate facing one of the worst pitchers and bullpens on the slate in a good ballpark. Dylan Covey is a below average strikeout pitcher with shaky control and allowing 38% hard hits to lefties. Alonso has batters with on base upside ahead of him and a mid-range salary that leaves him with all kinds of upside today.
